I have no idea what you guys are talking about but naming your band BTBAM is about as dumb as naming it Sunn O))). No way they can sound worse though.
It’s completely ridiculous. Starts with a bass wah, features a legitimate drum solo paced with cowbell, and another minute of guitar solos over major arpeggios. I am incapable of being unbiased about them because I’m such a fanboy, but I think it’s awesome.
The aforementioned drum solo is actually multiple drum solos from Mike Portnoy, Navene Koperweis, and Ken Schalk. Huh.
I couldn't do it, couldn't make it through one song. Might have been mood though, I'll try again another day.
Yeah I listened to it twice. There were some cool parts but I'm not really sure what they're trying to do here. I loved Old Star and I hoped it would be similar but it wasn't at all
Not only may this be the worst music ever, they couldn't even come up with their own damn logo for their shitty band.
Listening to some Warmoon Lord tonight. I kinda like it, for black metal. Don't know anything about them, just happened to be a new release this week and I'm once again out of new shit to listen to.
I thought it was awesome and am so glad for the direction they have taken. The weird atmospheric parts were great.
Really digging the new Darkthrone, sounds like Darkthrone playing Candlemass or some 80s inspired doom on a Casio tape recorder.
Been listening to the short lived VEGARD a lot lately. Really dynamic ‘symphonic black metal’ in the vein of Obtained Enslavement ‘Witchcraft’/good Emperor. They just released what I assume will be their last material of demos and more a dungeon synth-oriented split with Maiden Hair. Worth checking out
Also that BTBAM had a Zeuhl/MAGMA vibe to it. I suggest checking them out as progenitors of the style of course but the Zeuhl movement in general has some stellar bands if you’re interested in proggy fusion chaos
I remember Obtained Enslavement, kinda, by band name at least. Worth going back and revisiting? That type of metal was not for me in the 90's.
I think that particular album (Witchcraft) is one of the best symphonic black metal albums of all time. Right up there with ‘Anthems to the Welkin At Dusk’, ‘Nemesis Divina’, ‘Moon in the Scorpio’, ‘Dusk and Her Embrace’, ‘Upon Promethean Shores’ etc
Ooohh, very familiar with all of those great albums except the Limbonic Art. Familiar with the band and have owned an album or two along the way but hated the band name back then and never gave them a fair shake.
Like it's a big scheme with all of the Satan stuff and church burnings but actually these guys were just stoned all the time and were like "yeah this riff is dope"
Well that's the guy's voice I'm not sure what else to say beyond it is pure dorky showy prog and I like it for that exact reason
his frys have gone very downhill and there was a really bad hardcore style section. this isnt 2007 anymore.and it shows.
Yeah, I do kind of appreciate that he isn’t over producing his vocals that can never be recreated live. It just is what it is at this point.
Not sure if anyone is familiar with Forbidden Place records but they specialize in heavy psyche/doom and they’re doing a 35% off sale on their Bandcamp
has some of the best songs they've written in a decade. will be spending more time with it this week.
halfway through 2021, here's my top 5 albums so far that nobody asked for. honorable mention to Spectral Wound - A Diabolic Thirst, which has my favorite individual track of the year so far (Frigid and Spellbound). 1. Dodsrit - Mortal Coil 2. Escotrilihum - Dy'th Requiem for the Serpent Telepath 3. Spectral Lore - Ετερόφωτος 4. Panopticon - ...And Again Into the Light 5. Mare Cognitum - Solar Paroxysm
My music consumption has been replaced by podcasts for reasons but that dodstrit album was sick Will listen to the others
Mastodon is doing a virtual concert thing at the Georgia aquarium on July 15 Prob will pay $20 to watch it. The bundle with a sweet shirt is like $55 though
