After a 20+ year disappearance Vassago has released a new album. I remember buying their debut in '99 and it being pretty boring, doubt much has changed. It's a couple members from Lord Belial.
i've been relistening to these White Stones albums. if you like Opeth, this is the direction they could have gone in. it's an obvious cousin of Opeth, especially considering that Martin Mendez is in there. still, they rip if you're into that sound
i'm lit and watching metal things on youtube 46 year old james hetfield is still doing all down strokes on the Master of Puppets riff
Much better than the phonograph music recording I heard earlier from 1888. If I ever complain about tape hiss again punch me in the face.
yeah their last album was produced like butt. i don't necessarily love the vocal effects. but i'm here for the riffs
For me Bruce’s vocals really shine on this album which is amazing for a 63 year old. I need to listen a few more times but it feels slower than book of souls as a whole.
Ok listened to it 3 times while doing yard work it has the classic maiden (for lack of better terms) gallop, smith and Murray have a chemistry together and they shine on some of the solos and Bruce sounds great. Where book of souls and final frontier both had to grow on me this album is instantly. Has a little back in time and powerslave feel favorite track is parchment
For me book of souls had a few songs that more instantly grabbed me. For me the song book of souls is an all timer, death and glory was a fun power song, and empire of the clouds was magnificent. Still trying to pick out my favorites on this one. Stratego, days of future past and darkest hour jumped out to me.
Senjetsu, title track sets off the theme of the album and it sets a pace that flows through till the last song. Strong opener and the dual solos stand out, Stratego is where you 1st hear the signature maiden gallop ( need a better word) Bruce’s vocals are strong and the this one has one of those chorus that you remember and sing along with, hope this one finds its way into the set list on tour Writing on the wall, track was released about a month ago, it’s almost a hard rock song and the least maiden song yet that’s not a bad thing, check out the video it’s got a lot of Easter eggs in it Lost in a lost world, it’s a building track that has a great riff, another stand out for his vocals Days of future past, this is one of my favorites on the album. It has that old school maiden feel to it yet it’s not stale Time machine, although a good track and I will not skip it it’s kinda generic or at least nothing really jumps out at me Darkest hour, this is one that builds and builds, starts off slow and builds to really showcase Bruce’s vocals Death of the celts, one thing maiden always did all the way back to killers is tell a story with not just the music but also the lyrics and mix in something of a history lesson. Parchment, another signature is the long track. Another that has that maiden gallop and that bass that only Harris can produce (greatest bassets is open to debate but he has to be in the top 5) Also the solo or I should say duel solo, is the best on the album and the classic trade off between Murray and smith is right up there as a true high point. The way these two compliment each other yet have a truly unique sound with Murray having the more winey screeching sound and smith for lack of technical terms warm. And even better you get another one later too. It’s gonna be fun to get the vinyl copy to see who plays what one and see if my guesses are right Hell on earth, another signature maiden gallop. Nicko and Harris, drums and bass combined with guitar and wow. overall great album. Old school or at least middle school feel to it. Best work since brave new world maybe best since somewhere in time or somewhere in between. It’s one of those albums where I will listen to right through and the whole album goes in the maiden playlist. You know what I mean, think of no prayer for the dying, fear of the dark, or dance of death. I skip more than I don’t and honestly fear of the dark is 10x better live anyways. I guess that’s it
I thought book of souls was great but it took a while for me. Matter of fact after my 1st listen I didn’t touch it much until a year later. Red and black live hooked me and picked it back up
Also I am really high so album ranking leaving off anything Bruce isn’t on. 1 piece of mind 2 powerslave 3 brave new world 4 number of the beast 5 7th son 6 book of souls 7 somewhere in time 8 matter of life and death 9 final frontier 10/11 fear of the dark and no prayer left out new album, not enough time to know where it will fall
Wearing extreme metal shirts as haute couture has been a thing lately. There’s a whole meme around girls being accosted by metalhead neck beards: “nice cannibal corpse shirt, NAME 3 SONGS!”
we've talked about it before but if it gets any of those bands more money then ultimately i'm cool with it. metal has never been cool in my lifetime, so when someone "cool" wears it as a fashion statement and nothing else, it does irritate me. really it's just someone wearing a t-shirt so it doesn't really matter
It absolutely doesn’t matter, and it’s super dumb to be annoyed by it. It still annoys the ever loving shit out of me.
it is a bizarre thing that i can't really explain. maybe this is what cultural appropriation feels like? although on an extremely low level because again, it's just a t-shirt
I have a hard time believing people who take inspiration from a Kardashian’s wardrobe will start listening to Cannibal Corpse or death metal in general, but I guess it doesn’t hurt to be optimistic.
it’s hilarious to think about teeny boppers curiously punching in Cannibal Corpse into Spotify after seeing that shirt and pressing play on a track like ‘I Cum Blood’ lol
i listened to the first bit of it. nothing that great. somehow i missed this one from last year though
That post reminds me of a conversation I had with a friend : name a band (or some bands) that you LOVE one of their albums, but hate everything else they have put out. Elder would be on of those bands for me. LOVE Reflections....but can't get into anything else they have done before or after.
Reflections, Lore, and I also like the Gold/Silver EP. the new album wasn’t as good IMO. that’s a cool tour though, i would go to that show. Europe has the best metal events, it’s not even close.
new khemmis. it's ok. phil's voice sounds great but otherwise kind of meh new mastodon. yeah i like this
