Andrea Meyer died a couple days ago in the Konsberg Attack (bow and arrow attack that killed 5 and injured three more in Norway). She was Hagalaz' Runedance for those that remember the albums from the 90's and early 00's. She also appeared on Cradle Of Filth "The Principle Of Evil..." and Satyricon "Nemesis Divina". You may also remember her as Samoth's ex-wife (Emperor).
I Her work with Aghast (Cold Meat Industry) is stunningly dark ambient/ritual music if anyone digs that kind of stuff. I saw that she passed and thought it was just illness related but holy shit a fucking bow attack
new music i've spent time with: Knocked Loose EP, predictably crushing and very good Aorlhac melodic black metal, extremely strong record - love it Black Curse 'Endless Wound', took me a while to get into this because its almost inaccessibly heavy (black/death metal), but its good Havukruunu EP, more melodic black metal, this band does not miss
i haven't ever paid attention to Cradle of Filth. always thought they were a joke band. however, the newer album is actually...kind of sick? it reminds me of Mercyful Fate, very riff-driven. google tells me the last few records have been similarly well regarded after they had some personnel changes.
I've made fun of them and their fans for decades but I'll admit they have a few records that are pretty good.
all releases for ~$30. i probably should have paid more would they get more play if they were from the US? probably
these guys are about to blow up. they kind of already have. i could see them having mainstream breakthrough popularity, like Ghost or something. i was reading The Economist last week and they were mentioned during an article on vinyl supply shortages.
I’ve tried once or twice to get into Cradle and just haven’t been able to do it. They are a big gateway band for a lot of people though
I enjoy Vintersorg more than I probably should. Going through the discography today before I start on my 300+ new album backlog.
Finally got around to listening to new ATG, it's pretty good. Found new Abscession (another Swede band) to be a little better, has a bit more of the ferocity ATG has lost. Currently ending the night with yet another Swedish band and their 5 song EP, Avdagata. They sound nothing like ATG & Abscession but I'm definitely a fan.
new mastodon available now first song is straight heavy prog metal. maybe when your band rips like Mastodon it's just a given that you can play these complex songs live? this reminds me of Crystal Skull
My dudes. This is an AMAZING song from an awesome band. I LOVE the traditional heavy metal chorus. Kick ass album.
Haven't listened to new Mastodon yet but I have a tough time believing they had 15 tracks being album worthy. It's on the list for tonight, I'll do my best not to shit on it but I make no promises.
How many bands get better 20 years in? Especially with an album like Leviathan getting close to its 20th birthday
definitely a gateway band for me and I still love their first 3 albums. I can remember being 14/15 and throwing what money I had at a group of CDs from cdnow because I just wanted to find the darkest shit I could and it was Samael “Blood Ritual”, My Dying Bride “Angel and the Dark River”, COF “Dusk and her Embrace”, Mortiis “Crypt of the Wizard”, and Rotting Christ “Triarchy of Lost Lovers”. I still love all these albums and it was a pretty defining moment in my life.
Sounds awesome, but the bass drum and snare are way too high in the mix in my opinion. Can't hear shit during the blast beats.
Only discovered it a couple months ago (well, more like finally got around to listening to it). It looks like the version I got off Bandcamp is the remaster. I’ll need to listen to the original and compare
