Seen Knocked Loose and own a couple records. Familiar with Counterparts and Kublai Khan. I’ll check the rest, thanks
I've been an Agnostic Front and Sick of it All fan for many, many moons. I will definitely second Knocked Loose and Kublai Khan, haven't heard much of Jesus Piece though, Two of my favorite older Hardcore albums are River Runs Red by Life of Agony and Set it Off by Madball.
If you are going the metallic hardcore route you have to include Shai Hulud. Counterparts owes their entire existence to Hearts Once Nourished
Black metal with crust influence is basically what piqued my interest in exploring more hardcore to begin with. I love that shit
Grew up going to hardcore shows but haven’t really explored it since the late 90s. I generally prefer powerviolence, post hardcore, screamo — Vi som älskade varandra så mycket NINE ELEVEN FELL TO LOW ORCHID LLNN VIRHE speaking of blackened crust anyone remember ISKRA?
just straight up hXc shit tends to have too much bro-jock energy. the dudes in mesh shorts and flat bills are the worst i still love this album but can’t listen to any of their newer stuff
not sure if anyone else has done this “namefest” thing that uses your Spotify to create a festival line up for you
I still love old Metallica and Ozzy though I will say I utilize Spotify more when drinking and hanging out with my wife so I have to be a little more considerate. I wish Bandcamp did a similar annual summation.
What’s everyone’s opinion on Sepultura? They are always one of my fallback bands. I listen to them probably 15% of the time. Are they my favorite? No but they seem to be played a lot.
I like everything from Roots and before, but I can’t say that I consistently listen to anything in their catalogue. Chaos AD Arise and Beneath the Remains are super widely respected for their influence on extreme metal, and I appreciate that.
So…. What’s everyone’s albums of the year? Here’s my top ten: Immolation - Acts of God (death metal) Véhémence - Ordalies (medieval black metal) Amorphis - Halo (melodic death metal) Morrow - The Quiet Earth (crust, post metal) Blackbraid - Blackbraid I (melodic black metal) Wormrot - Hiss (grindcore) White Ward - False Light (post black metal) An Abstract Illusion - Woe (progressive death metal) Cloud Rat - Threshold (grindcore) Dream Unending - Song of Salvation (death/doom) Honorable Mention: Worm - Bluenothing (death/doom) Revocation - Netherheaven (technical death metal) Venom Prison - Erebos (death metal/hardcore) Ripped to Shreds - Jubian (death metal) Morrow is my AOTY. I really clicked with it. I’m also just a big fan of Alex CF from his time with Fall of Efrafa and Light Bearer.
Here's my top 5: Vital Spirit - Still as the Night, Cold as the Wind (melodic black metal) Inexorum - Equinox Vigil (melodic black metal) Dream Unending - Song of Salvation (death / doom metal) Blackbraid - Blackbraid I (melodic black metal) Undeath - It's Time...To Rise from the Grave (death metal) Honorable mentions: Nechochwen - Kanawha Black (melodic black metal) Ripped to Shreds - Jubian (death metal) Messa - Close (doom metal) Hath - All That Was Promised (death metal) Lorna Shore - Pain Remains (deathcore) Heltekvad - Morgenrødens Helvedesherre (medieval black metal)
Inexorum was great, I just haven’t revisited it much. I still haven’t gotten around to the new Nechochwen. I like them a lot, I have Heart of Akamon on vinyl
Just kind of everything i liked enough to add to my spotify library: Arkaik - Labyrinth of Hungry Ghosts Aronious - Irkalla Anal Stabwound - Reality Drips Into The Mouth of Indifference Antropofagus - Origin Artificial Brain - Self Titled Blackwater Sniper - EXTRAVIOLENCE Blut Aus Nord - Disharmonium Deterioration - Retaliatory Measures Immolation - Acts of God Knoll - Mephritic PeelingFlesh - Slampilation Mixtape Vomit Forth - Seething Malevolence Wormrot - Hiss “Reality Drips…” is probably my AOTY
You might like this. It popped up on my youtube a couple weeks ago. It's a band out of Italy that's been around a while, but they changed up a good bit of the lineup recently. Kind of that melodic "blackened" deathcore sound.
Metal Top 10 for the year: SERMON OF FLAMES ‘I have seen the light and it was repulsive’ HOLD ME DOWN ‘Powerless’ NECROSFERATUL ‘Ancient bloodlines mean nothing’ OLD NICK ‘Ghost O Clock’ PRIMITIVE KNOT ‘Ur-Metal’ LUNGTOUCHER ‘The ninth incantation’ CANDELABRUM ‘Nocturnal trance’ SILENT THUNDER ‘Thousand hammers’ MEDRAUT ‘Medraut One’ CIRCLE OF OUROBORUS ‘Autuala’
The first riff on the first song "Bastard of Hades" is a rip off I'm positive I've heard it before but I can't place where. It's also driving me crazy
