New release from the perennially awesome CIRCLE OF OUROBOROS new demo out for this brutal Black Metal band but can’t find it streaming so here’s another release of theirs from this year —
Baroness is one of those bands I’ll always have a soft spot for due to their early output but they lost me a couple albums ago. The handful of reviews I’ve seen were positive for it though
I hear a lot of Dream Unending bleeding into the new Tomb Mold. Not that that’s a bad thing in the slightest.
I hear that, and Decrepit Birth’s Polarity record in terms of melodic / progressive influence. I’m sure this will grow more on me, but I kind of miss the sick riffs of Manor Of Infinite Forms
Was discussed a few pages ago, but I have to say the new Horrendous album is brilliant. They lost me the last couple releases, but this is excellent music. It’s like Red In The Sky era At The Gates with fantastic production and a megadose of progressive melody. Really good ideas throughout. Decibel magazine just gave it 10 / 10, which might be only their first or second rating that high this year.
Grand Cadaver is a super group side project of a bunch of well known Swedish metal guys Mikael Stanne from Dark Tranquillity on vocals. They started the band as a vehicle to play old school Swedish death metal using riffs / ideas that didn’t fit their main bands because they were too heavy. This song fucking rules and the album is tight.
It's nice to see that Horrendous realized the path they were on was one of suck and have taken steps to rectify the issue.
I’m loving it so far. Blood Blind is already one of my favorite CC songs. Rutan was such a good addition to the band and i feel like you can really hear his playing style on this album, lots of hate eternal riffs
The production after the double album was so bad that I just wrote them off tbh Blue and Red still rip though
Speaking of shitty Kataklysm somehow gets worse with every new release. They haven't released a good album in 20 years now. That doubles Amon Amarth's shit streak of a decade.
I'm about to listen to the Harm's Way, Moonlight is downloaded but might have to wait until tomorrow.
they do a bunch of twitch stuff, plus it's probably people who loved Inhuman Rampage when it came out
Moonlight Sorcery was good, if a little overwrought. It was like symphonic black metal with Yngwi Malmsteen-levels of gratuitous shredding. I didn’t remember the first 2 EPs being that over the top.
Don't know how I stumbled upon this UK band The Antichrist Imperium but they're described as Progressive Black/Death Metal. Newest album pretty good, their 2015 is a little more straightforward and I definitely took to that.
new Svalbard album is great British melodic hardcore chick vocalist delicious chunky riffs weighty emotions reminds me a bit of Undying if they listened to more emo
also, posting that here because I think it’s silly that we have a separate thread for hardcore / metalcore
The new Kvelertak is solid. They’ll never reach the debut for me but I still enjoy their stuff. Also liked this melodic black metal album from Weald and Woe. Heavy Mental seems up your alley
new Sulphur Aeon is out today. they are one of my absolute favorite modern bands, so was really excited for this. it seems like the production (or maybe it's the vocals?) changes with every release, so it always takes me a minute to get adjusted. i liked the title track best on first listen.
i've also been really enjoying this album by King's Rot. they are melodic black metal from Calgary, CAN. i'm a sucker for that classic, old timey looking Tolkien artwork.
I heard someone equate it to black metal Children of Bodom with the power metal influence and that seems fair
i just loved the first 2 EPs so much that this felt like a big shift. the third and fourth EPs were meh.
I was unaware they had two additional eps. I’ve only heard Piercing Through the Frozen Eternity and Nightwind: The Conqueror From the Stars. I’ll have to check those out
Really enjoyed the first listen. I found it more melodic than I remember their other stuff. I like that stuff too but it usually took me a few listens
