mastodon has been doing stupid album teasers for like 3 days. there better be at least a single at the end of this because it's bullshit
any of you guys heard Goes Cube? they are like post-hardcore (I think?). kind of remind me of the fast sections of Isis or Mastodon, but without the crazy long songs. Just released a new album Oct 16.
They better get that rock star attitude out of their systems, Horisont will eventually make them obsolete. New album little over a week away.
They are local here (Brooklyn). I had to log some hours in the car and listened to their album twice, it was pretty decent.
signed up for the maiden fan club to get the presale code. got two GA tickets for the Brooklyn show in GA. stoked, never seen them before.
insane. $150 / each (includes $20 service fee). fucking ticketmaster. it's NYC tho, shit is always like this.
i've spent a grand total of zero minutes listening to them, but will run through their albums before the show.
GA on the floor is well worth it. In So Cal, they're playing a 65,000 seat amphitheatre (home of the '05 Ozzfest incident with Sharon Osbourne), so unfortunately not much of a GA floor area but at least seats that directly face the stage.
Mastodon has gone full rock star https://ticket.warnermusic.com/event/mastodon-ticketless-vip-upgrade-at-roseland-theater For the low price of $150, you get to meet the band, get some signed shit, and take a picture. Note: this does not include an actual ticket to the concert. and the fine print: *please note: not all members of the band will participate in the Meet & Greet or photo
i think they do the VIP meet and greet thing with them in their costumes, but it comes with a ticket. and they're all there. apparently if you hang out long enough after the show where their bus is, they'll do autographs and bullshit with whoever is out there, but as soon as a phone comes out they hit the road. on mastodon's last tour, bill kelliher was charging like $150 for a half hour "guitar lesson," but basically it was just to hang out with him. i don't blame them for trying to make a buck, since they've been touring relentlessly since the band was a thing, but there's something not that cool about it.
Kinda. If you're gonna trim it cool, do so and keep it tight. I don't understand letting it grow and trimming the sides or 'stache. Looks funny to me.
The album might blow me away, haven't checked it out yet. Cover is just bland, like Grand Magus covers.
also i don't know anything about art, so take that fwiw imo that song isn't great. it's like Black Tongue's cousin. their playing is on point, as usual, but it seems like they're trying too hard to cram their dope prog metal sound into 4-5 minute songs. maybe they're just tapped out.
I actually thought about this when I saw Baroness a few years ago, and it explained their album Yellow & Green, which I liked but was not even close to their previous albums. Touring the country on the wrong side of 35 playing complex sludge/prog metal to small crowds probably isn't that cool. I wonder what a ticket cost on the Leviathan, Blood Mountain, and Crack the Skye tours, if they were even headlining. $10-$20 in venues measured in the hundreds? It's not like Brent Hinds wants to go back to being a carpenter.
Very much looking forward to the new Darkest Hour. They are doing some in studio videos and the new songs sound great.
