continue to come back to and be impressed by Cattle Decapitation's 2015 release (The Anthropocene Extinction). it's absolutely art how they can take one of the least accessible forms of music (technical death metal) and make it catchy. i find myself humming the 'hooks' all the time.
would you make offensively bad music, dress like that, and have a fan base made up of whoever listens to that stuff if it meant you got to be a rock star?
no. the shelf life on your "rock star" status would be less than a decade. you'd be left with a bad drug habit and poor physical health. i'm good.
I hate some of the shit they've signed in the past 10-15 years, but there's a lot of essential albums on that label.
New music I discovered this weekend: Like Rats is old school death metal from Chicago with hardcore influenced vocals. Not at all in the “deathcore” category, this is all classic sounding stuff. Great riffs, drummer is the vocalist. burnttatertot i think you would like. Spoiler: Like Rats - II I’m probably late to the party here, Power Trip’s Nightmare Logic is one of the best thrash albums I’ve heard recently. Between these guys, Black Fast, Destroyer 666, and Vektor, there is really interesting stuff happening in that genre. AIP Spoiler: Power Trip - Nightmare Logic
also Joe_Pesci thanks for reminding me again to check out Radio Fenriz. Huge Darkthrone fan but never had a chance to check out his show. Listened to #39 this weekend and it was great. I don’t think there is anyone on the planet more metal than him.
he puts a pretty good mix of stuff on there. i assume people just send him stuff to listen to at this point because he has played stuff that has like 20 views on youtube
i doubt i would have ever found something like this without that podcast. currently has like 2k views on youtube in about 4 months
i started an instagram account where i will review albums. mostly metal and hardcore releases, but also other genres on occasion. my first review is of Converge's The Dusk In Us. if you guys have instagram check it out @criticalriffage https://www.instagram.com/criticalriffage/?hl=en
Reviews are there. Are you on your phone or a computer? You have to click the image and open the caption to see.
BTBAM releasing a 2 part album this year, part 1 due out March 9. Also touring with Leprous and the Dear Hunter. http://www.metalinjection.net/tour-...ata-spring-tour-with-the-dear-hunter-leperous
i listened to this mainly because of the album art but it's actually ok. nothing groundbreaking. it's like a doom/classic hybrid.
Spirit Adrift is playing at my local metal bar this Friday, with Gatecreeper (Nate Garrett is in both bands) playing the day after. Thinking of going but both nights would be tough.
All that good shit on the bill and you focus on the negative, eh? Grab a beer or five during those sets.
So in your opinion, which is the best Slayer album after Divine Intervention (the last Slayer album I've heard)
honestly except for the one with all of the punk covers, it seems like they've been making the same album for the last like 25 years that song Disciple is ok but it's a little too far on the teen angst side for me
I’m not a big Slayer fan but Seasons In The Abyss was always my favorite. I like the riffs and the drums but I don’t like Tom’s vocals at all.
Testament then a lonnnnnnnnng smoke break, and then Slayer. Lamb and Anthrax are complete garbage. Going to the Orlando show.
