UNLV is paying $4m for their football coaching staff. $100k for the most important position on the field seems more than fair. Head Coach is making $1.75m and then the staff...
Cover 3 floated a theory that the $100k was conditional, based on if he won the starting job (they took 2 transfer qbs). That makes a lot of sense and may explain why it's not in writing
Playing devil's advocate, conditional deals aren't allowed and apparently it wasn't a given that he'd get the starting job. A chance at $100k sounds a lot better than the paltry amount he would have been guaranteed. It's just a dirty game
New reality for non P4 football teams and non top 25 basketball teams. You are triple fucked if you don’t have a grad school like my alma mater.
Also, agree that this is the bottom line for the coach/staff. Fucking solve it before he quits and your season is tanked.
This, lol at talking that they are a playoff favorite to come from the G6. Wouldn’t be surprised if they aren’t top 10. CB do you have a chart?
imo if you're a fully adult professional football coach and you're telling kids they can rely on your verbal promise you are up to some shit.
I'm kind of offended for CB that you'd even ask if he has a chart. Just ask him to post his chart bc we know he has a chart.
He’s a busy guy, I didn’t want to assume. But also hoping he’ll put together one of those pretty lookin team specific ones :-)
Would be curious to know how many college teams have someone on staff that are dedicated to navigating the NIL landscape. Adjacent thought but I'm curious how Woj is going to work as the GM at St. Bonaventure. Familiar with the agent game, connections at the pro level.
I think we really need to get away from collectives and have contracts with the schools. There is too much sleazy shit going on.
“Friends of UNILV” is a really funny collective name to me https://lasvegassun.com/news/2024/jan/15/after-losing-qb-to-transfer-portal-unlv-backers-fi/
two that are public but if you believe sports media, including the Cover 3 crew, some "injuries"/unavailability for games is NIL disputes. Bud said as much today that there are current situations this year that are exactly this. Those programs are just better at keeping their disputes out of the social mediasphere
For sure. Injuries have also been a cover for years for academic eligibility issues and sitting out bowl games. I’m actually surprised that there’s really only been two public tiffs with how many poorly run collectives are out there, especially early on.
You can’t use what UNLV is using to pay their coaching staff to “back into” what they can part a QB. They aren’t the same pots of money.
I suppose it's possible that I would take the coach/school side in one of these disagreements, but I haven't seen such a situation yet.
