Hi guys, I don't post a ton but I have been on the board for close to ten years.

I'm posting this as my best buddy from college recently received unimaginably terrible news, that his 8 year old daughter has terminal spinal cord cancer.

She recently underwent surgery to remove as much as possible however, they were only able to remove a portion of the tumor due to the location on her spine. She lost some movement in her arm and leg and is undergoing PT and will be starting proton radiation therapy beginning tomorrow. The family hopes to enroll her in a clinical trial and prove the doctors wrong, but in the best case it's not going to be a quick recovery as there is currently no cure.

The family has already started receiving some ridiculous bills and it has only been a few weeks so appreciate any help from the TMB community in helping out this special little girl in her fight. These guys are like family to me, so anything you can do to keep them in your thoughts or to contribute to this gofundme would mean a lot.

Thanks, I know everyone has different financial circumstances and it's a lot to ask to donate to a stranger but appreciate any and all help. I just hope this little girl is able to pull through this.

Olivia started proton therapy yesterday and luckily since it's very targeted, she has been doing well so far. She has to do it for over a month, so we are hoping this at least helps and that she can get enrolled in a clinical trial out of NYU. That seems to be the best bet at this time.

I'll continue to post updates but thank you again for all those that have donated.:beerchug:

Hey guys, it's been a while since I posted an update as I was on vacation out of the country for the last 2.5 weeks.

Olivia is near the end of her proton therapy but they haven't done a follow up MRI yet to know what impact it has had. She is improving in walking and hand/foot movement and will be going to Disneyworld with her parents soon. After they get back from Disney they should be starting the clinical trial regimen, which has had promising results in glioma.

Also for those that may not have seen the updates on the GoFundMe, Liv's parents posted the following:

“Be thankful for today, because in one moment, your entire life can change.”

Our lives have been forever changed since Liv’s diagnosis. We are living just one day at a time and are trying to enjoy each moment. Brian and I cannot put into words how grateful we are for the amazing support we have received from our families, neighbors, colleagues, school and community. I wish we could thank everyone individually, please know every single thing is appreciated and has given us the opportunity to spend every minute with our fighter. As we continue down this journey we do not know what the future holds, but we are getting through this as a family and are holding on to hope. Liv has been so incredibly brave and has met each obstacle head on. She is such a special kid and truly amazes us every day.

Hey guys, it's been a long time. Liv had a great summer and was able to have fun and be a little girl. I want to thank everyone that donated to the gofundme again. Her mom posted the below update last week, please keep up the fight against pediatric cancer:

One month, it doesn’t seem like a lot of time. This past month is one that has changed our lives forever. We went to the ER this past Friday morning and were discharged. After a short nap and something to eat Livs symptoms started all over again. Her head was pounding and she couldn’t keep anything down. As soon as we would give her meds to help they would all come back up. Around 11 at night we decided it was time to go back to the ER. From that point everything went down hill so quickly I still can’t believe it. We were admitted and Liv was dosed with too many meds to list. Around 6am Brian and I heard her heaving like she was going to throw up. We helped her sit up and she proceeded to vomit. She was hunched over and unresponsive. We screamed for help and a bunch of residents ran in. This was way over their head and they had no idea what to do. Brian called our NYU oncologist who took charge over the phone. I was screaming for Liv to open her eyes and there was barely a response.

The NYU transport team came to transport her to the New York. By the time we got to NYU she was catatonic. Her tongue was hanging out of her mouth and she was completely unresponsive. The team here couldn’t believe what a bad state she was in. They rushed her for a CT and the straight into the OR for a shunt to relieve the pressure that was building in her brain. The Neurosurgeon said it would be a few hours to see if the surgery would work. We waited all night and nothing. She never woke up and didn’t say a word. It wasn’t until 2 the next afternoon that she started to come to and we finally hear her voice. I can not say enough about how amazing Dr. Gardner has been,

We got a new MRI and unfortunately Livs cancer is everywhere. Her primary tumor is the same size it was when she was first diagnosed. It’s in her spinal cord, spinal fluid, and parts of her brain. That is how aggressive her cancer is, in one months it has taken over her body. We have very few options left and are now focusing on palliative and hospice care to keep her as comfortable as possible. We are still at NYU trying to get her as stable and comfortable as possible before we bring her home.

No one should have to go through this torture. The conversations that Brian and I have had to have over the past few days is something parents should never have to do. The thought of telling our son that his big sister, the person he idolizes is dying is something he should never have to hear. I know people mean well but please don’t send us thoughts and prayers, take action. This should not be happening to my baby or anyone’s child. We need more research, more funding. Kids deserve better, families deserve better.

Thanks everyone, I can't tell you some of the decisions that her parents have had to make over the past few weeks. I bottle everything up until it bursts out and this has finally been hitting me. I almost started crying in a workshop at work today and I'm sitting here bawling now. I held Liv when she was just a baby and I can't believe this...

Hey guys it pains me to post this update from Liv's parents, but I wanted to thank everyone that donated to the gofundme one last time. Please consider continuing to donate to pediatric cancer research in the future.

On Wednesday night our sweet girl took her last breath. I will not say she lost her battle because she never had a chance, her cancer was so aggressive it took over her body in less then 9 months. She was the most loving, kind, amazing little girl. We were so lucky to be her parents. Our hearts will be forever broken. Please respect our privacy at this time.
