I was not a fan of curry till he switched the style up for ZUU. After ZUU and this, JID is probably the only new wave guy out now that I’m more excited to hear from
My first exposure to Curry was Zuu and was all in. Miami rappers don’t have much appeal to me. Think the last Miami rappers I remember were Poison Clan. But this new Curry album is really damn good. A lot of growth especially in that JID track. Reminds me of Joey Bada$$ when he dropped All Amerikkkan Badass. Dope tracks and social commentary, perfect rap combo.
Ion know but Daytona was nominated for Rap Album of the year and was only 7 minutes longer. That being said, fuck the Grammys
Yessss. Big fan of Milo & the Ruby Yacht. Love Hemlock, too (and his singing under Samuel T. Herring). Need to dive into MAVI.
I booked future islands years ago and was talking to Sam and told him how much I liked his hemlock project and he was surprised that anybody even knew who it was
His songs with BADBADNOTGOOD are great. Would love for them to do a whole album together. Even better, a full collab album with Sam, BBNG and Ghostface (Sour Soul remains a top 10 album for me).
a full Herring/BBNG album would be one of my most anticipated projects in a while. they're incredible together
Next Sunday, a friend of mine who is a local rapper and I are gonna record a hip hop podcast. Hour long affair that’s gonna tackle a subject first half (seems like hip hops Mt Rushmore) and the back half is gonna be reviews. The reviews are gonna be one album current (circles by Mac Miller) and a throwback review (MBDTF). I’m gonna link itt. Im probs a shitty poster but I love rap/hip hop and would talk about it forever. I’d love for any of you guys to show interest and maybe wanna guest. I’ll link as soon as this gets moving. I’m tryna make the brand strong and sell t-shirts
This is my buddy’s last album that’s super good. https://music.apple.com/us/album/underground-lounge/1469632149 it’s on all platforms
Why? I'd say this is a pretty fair argument Two No. 1 debuts (If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, What a Time to Be Alive with Future), first-ever Grammy-nominated diss track in “Back to Back,” “Hotline Bling” highest-charting solo single (tied with “Best I Ever Had”), launched OVO Sound Radio on Beats 1,
Before it possibly turns a different way, that wasn't me saying Drake > anyone. He put out two #1 projects, and Hotline Bling hit. It's tough for anyone to top that in a single year IMO, regardless of how great TPAB was.
I’m sorry but when you record an album in your genre that many consider the the best album across all genres for the decade then I’m sorry but you won that year as a rapper over a guy who recorded hotline bling and dissed meek mill
Yeah To Pimp A Butterfly is a culturally aware and resonate album. Hotline Bling is sorority rap and meme shit.
Because if you as a hip hop head is so bothered about Drake's 2015 being rewarded, I don't see how Nicki's 2014 should be as her album top 5 at best that year.
I do recognize the pop implications in the list. I’m not bothered by them choosing Nicki over other pop rap contemporaries. 2015 had an album from a rapper who has pop appeal and social significance and it also happens to be an absolute masterpiece. They rewarded the year to a guy who probably recorded his lamest hit a long line of lame hits all while he was embroiled in a ghostwriting controversy. There’s a big difference in the two years. I’m not bothered by Nicki getting it for 2014. None of her contemporaries that year had an album even remotely as important or impressive as TPAB
And the point of the list is that for the entire 2015 year, Drake did a shit ton that the masses loved. WATTBA and IYRTITL both dropped that calendar year and put up numbers, along with a chart topping single. I just think regardless of the Kendrick album, it’s hard to say Drake doesn’t have a legit argument based on the premise
