Who's planning on watching?
I'll probably check it out, but some of the reviews I have seen have been scathing.
same, at least the Ringer piece on it said the first 4 episodes have been proven to be better than the movie...which ain't saying much
nm wrong thread
thought the first one was pretty interesting. I'll definitely check out the next few to see where it goes.
Book reader checking in
Liked the first episode but it wasn’t great. Solid but a little methodical. A LOT of table setting which was a little surprising. Think it could go places.
from what I read, the first 3-4 episodes are all table-setting. gives me hope for the series because all the critics were given was the first four.
I watched and am interested enough to see where it goes.
Thank you for listening.
Whoever is responsible for the music/score should be shot
I actually really enjoyed it and the music
Book lover here and really liking it so far. Honestly the first half of book one is table setting so I'm not surprised
So is this world kind of like Harry Potter in there are secret magician like people who hide from “muggles” in present day? But I guess in what looks like another dimension.
I have no idea wtf is going on with the Magistarium or what’s going on up North with the “dust” but I think Lyra is a good character and I love how these little demons follow their people around.
I Will admit it’s slow and doesn’t make a lot of sense yet, but I’m still intrigued.
I think they are crossing between realities? But I didn’t read the books.
The series is set in a multiverse. The show is going a bit out of order from the books in introducing our world already (doesn’t happen til book two) but they’re doing it because it’s hard to do identity reveals on a tv show
Damn gave away a big reveal in episode 2 but I liked the choice. Worked better than learning from Coram in some exposition later
pretty excited for the LMM episode tonight
I have really enjoyed the first four episodes. The table setting of the world has actually been really good.
Like this show a lot.
On episode 8.
I liked the first book.
this show is iffy but for some reason quite addictive
Finale was the best episode by some distance
I liked the show overall but as a huge fan of the books I didn't like Lyra's personality in the show. Daphne Keen plays her entirely too civilized and empathetic; Lyra is supposed to be a savage little asshole until book three
liked the series well enough, but get the feeling we still aren't going to get the batshit craziness of book 3 on film at any point soon. They haven't renewed for a 2nd season yet, have they?
It's already being filmed so Lyra and Will don't noticeably age between seasons
Enjoyed the first season a good bit. Read the books in middle school but that being two decades ago made me forget a ton. Did not see the twist in the finale at all
I just finished the finale. I enjoyed the show quite a bit. I’ve read the books and liked them, but didn’t love them. The show has some noticeable differences already outlined itt, but it’s quite watchable. I’m glad to read they’re already filming season 2. I thought they nailed a lot of the casting, Mrs. Coulter especially.
Never read the books, but enjoyed the show. It wasn't on the level of Watchmen, early GOT but it was good. I'm not sure if I liked Lin Manuel or not, I'm not sure how the character was supposed to act but he seemed... off.
Also the bear's voice was weird.
yeah weird role for Manuel honestly
Agreed. I thought Sam Elliott was perfect for that roll in the movie.
