Dad went to UF and my sister was at UF when I was born, so I grew up a fan and just kind of expecting to go there.

I grew up during the Spurrier years and attended during the early Meyer/peak Donovan years (04-07). Was a good time.

Grew up in an Irish Catholic family and lived about 40 minutes from campus. Dad was a huge ND fan, but no one in my family went to college. Was on campus during the filming of the final game for Rudy.

ND was my dream school but I wanted to study meteorology, which ND doesn't have. Went to Valpo instead. Great memories of going to basketball games there, awesome small school, crazy for basketball environment. Was the end of the Homer Drew days. Some awesome games against Butler (Brad Stevens was the coach at the time).

Will always be ND fan and will always choose Valpo basketball over ND

Im the first one in my family to go to college.

My grandfather bought season tickets in the 70s while my dad was still in highschool. They lived 180 miles from the stadium. We still do. Went to my first game in Sept 91, night game against ranked Auburn, and I was 5. Went to at least one game a year until 2020, over 100 in total. Went to 6 last year.

I never applied to Tennessee. I knew I had a free ride to MTSU while Tennessee was going to cost something. Enough to matter. My dad did what we could to support me financially, and I didn't want student loans.

Eventually. Wound up getting freaked out at all the calculus in met and majored in history at Valpo. Went back to school later for meteorology and now work for the NWS.

I suppose I could have easily done everything that I did at Valpo, at ND...But that's how it went.

I have no family or other connection to Ohio State, but I have been a fan as long as I can remember. One of my best friends since kindergarten came from a family of Michigan grads and I remember already being an Ohio State fan when I met him. Don’t really know when it started.

For undergrad, I applied early and got a scholarship to OSU so I didn’t apply anywhere else.

Chose Ohio State for law school over Notre Dame because ND was going to be three times as expensive and my then girlfriend/now wife was still an undergrad at OSU.

I’m from NC and grew up a huge Tar Heel fan for all sports. Hated duke with everything I had. Both my parents attended small private schools for college, but my old man went to UNC for law school and my sisters ended up going to UNC for undergrad.

Beginning in high school my mom, and to a lesser extent my dad, pushed UNC as the only acceptable college option for me. That was fine until I started getting a little older and fought everything my parents wanted tooth and nail. I decided that I wanted to go to Washington and Lee to try to play baseball. Visited W&L, met with the baseball coach and everything, but ultimately determined I wanted to go to a big school. I am very thankful I didn’t go to W&L.

As dumb as this is, like 3 or 4 of the hottest girls in the class above mine were going to SC, so I checked it out, had a blast on my visits and saw so much talent on campus that I chose SC. Dropped my UNC fandom (despite SC going 0-11 my freshman year) and haven’t looked back since. Still hate Duke though.

There are areas of the state where it’s more prevalent, but yeah, O H I O spellers are everywhere.

You get less of it in areas where the TV market is dominated by Pittsburgh or Detroit. Also, pretty much everyone at the University of Cincinnati hates Ohio State almost as much as Michigan fans do.

Option 2 was the closest choice for me (and might be accurate?), but it generally is more of a 1a and 1b situation for me.

I grew up a Gopher fan, my family has had season tickets since the Jim Wacker days and we still have them. If my work schedule allows for it, I still try to attend every home game. I grew up with a dad that was a Gopher fan first despite playing hockey for Ohio State (he does cheer for OSU hockey first, but he'll cheer for Minnesota over Ohio State in football/basketball).

But I always wanted to go out of state for college, plus, similar to what lomcevak said, I also wanted to study meteorology and even if I wanted to stay in state, the only option would have been St. Cloud State. I looked a bit at Oklahoma and NC State but was pretty sold on Miami being the place I wanted to go by the start of my junior year in HS.

Went to Miami for both undergrad and grad school, and I'm not sure I can say they have 100% overtaken the Gophers (especially since I ended up back in Minnesota after college), but they have at least matched them. There have been three occurrences where Miami and Minnesota have played in basketball since I started college. The first time was my sophomore year when Minnesota played at Miami in the ACC-Big Ten challenge, and I wore Gopher clothes in the student section. The second time was in an NIT matchup at Miami when I was in grad school. I went purely neutral for that game. And third was another ACC-Big Ten matchup a few years ago, this time in Minnesota, and I cheered for Miami in that game.

I think I would lean narrowly Miami over Minnesota in terms of my number one team, but I think it would be an easier decision for me if I didn't live in Minnesota and go to pretty much every Gopher home football game, while I've only made it to one Miami football game since I graduated ten years ago.

PSU was the dominant team in Pittsburgh when I grew up there so followed them. Kinda liked Pitt when they finally didn't suck with Fitzgerald. Moved to FL, toured a bunch of schools and picked UCF and enjoyed a nice 0-11 freshman year going to the Citrus Bowl. Kids these days have it too good.

I went to undergrad at OU. My mom is an alum and that entire side of my family consists of huge fans. My dad went to a small Missouri college so he became a fan just through being with my mom.

I almost went to Northwestern but at the end the tuition was just too high. I ended up attending Virginia Tech for my masters which I had no association with. The program was just a really good fit. So I root for them as my second school, though I wouldn’t say I follow them closely. Just if they’re on and I’m watching them.

My dad didn’t go to to a four year college and my mom went to a small teachers school, so no college football influence from my family, though I had a few relatives attend Rutgers. I grew up catholic and kids talked about the Irish at Sunday school, and they were televised weekly, so that’s who I followed. Looking forward to playing them in ‘23 and ‘24.

First game after I got my acceptance letter to A&M we lost 77-0 to OU. It was love at first sight and I’ve been a fan ever since.

My grandmother and her siblings started attending Bama games in the 30s, bought season tickets before Bear Bryant came to Bama, and my dad’s side has had those same 4 seats for almost 70 years now. My mom has had her own season tickets since 1971. Everyone on my paternal grandmother’s side of the family graduated from Alabama.

Only other school I visited was Ole Miss, but all of the rest of my family is from the golden triangle area of Mississippi and hates Ole Miss.

    Poll is flawed.

I Grew up a Notre Dame fan. Pretty much always knew I'd go to Moeller High School all the way back to when ND hired Gerry Faust from there. But I attended a DIII school for college and played a couple years.

My ND Fandom grew when I was a young adult when my Dad got sick and passed away just a few months after we attended our first game together. While he was sick we bonded over that trip and we even buried him in ND gear I'd bought him after that trip and gave him for Christmas. It was the only time he was able to wear it.

Coach Faust even called my dad when he was sick and they talked for over an hour about ND, Moeller, coaching (dad coached junior high), faith, etc. That meant a ton to him. He was ecstatic when he called to tell me about it.

I'm active in my alma mater's alumni association and try to get to at least one football game and a couple other random events per year. I also sport their apparel regularly. So I'm still a fan of both, which isn't really an option so I didn't vote.

No. No we are not. Then again, they like to say that Cincinnati is really in Kentucky. I wouldn't go that far. We're really kind of an land unto our own.

It's probably the most divided of the notable cities in Ohio. OSU is big here, but UC is a huge school so naturally there are a lot of fans and a big alumni base, so it's probably the best represented here. There are also a lot of ND fans being a big Catholic town. There are also a lot of Kentucky fans given the proximity. Hell, I live about five miles closer to UK than I do to OSU. And for some reason, we also have a decent number of Michigan fans here. Must be the Ohio River water or something.

Neither parents went to college and I dropped out of hs at 16. Got sick of the party lifestyle and went to CC for a couple years then transferred to GVSU and got my B.B.A. I follow GVSU athletics and stop by the campus on my way to the lake every year but at the end of the day, it’s not D1 football. Probably doesn’t help that I attended at age 24 and didn’t live on campus.

Both my parents went to UVA, as did 4/5 of their siblings. I didn’t get in, but did end up going there for grad school, so I guess I can still claim it as an alma mater, even though that’s pretty different.

I do claim part of the reason the UVA fan base is smaller than VT is because it’s harder to get in to (and because VT is just a larger school in general). Anecdotally, I knew a bunch of people who were UVA fans in high school, but then went to Tech and switched allegiance. I definitely didn’t cheer as hard for the Hoos in college out of pure bitterness after not getting in.
