Waldrep just got a single out today. He gave up 2 hits, 6 ER, 4 BB. I think that puts his WHIP over 1.7 for the year. Just put him in the pen already.
haven't checked in here in a while. what is the current sentiment? Fire snit, trade everyone except for Acuna?
i am actually all for trading Acuna if it gives us a real package. we already cursed the franchise by getting rid of freddie. may as well rip the bandaid off.
GTFO with this bullshit. Frauddie left because he chose to try for more money, we didn't get rid of him. We made offers with higher AAV than he ended up signing for, but it wasn't enough to get him to see his market value and say yes.
lol I know I know. it was the right business decision (I guess) but I really do think we let the heart and soul of our franchise walk out the door and the guys left over have been unable to replace that. I also believe his agents screwed him and played hardball when they shouldn't have.
All started going down hill since Freddie left. Every morning I wake up to see if AA has been fired yet.
we had the best record in baseball two years ago. the frauddie revisionism is getting old things started going down hill when wash left. it’s clear him and EY were what kept things running
That team also folded and missed Freddie’s presence at the end. Point being this isn’t AA’s first shit offseason and how he has a job is embarrassing
We have the perfect heart and soul player for our franchise. Too bad we have an idiot racist manager who doesn't like that player's flashiness and makes an issue any time he has a lack of hustle.
no that team didn’t fold. they lost in the high variance event known as the mlb playoffs. frauddie’s “presence” didn’t do us an ounce of good when we legit did fold in the 2019 nlds. you people sound pathetic still thirsting 4 years later over him
he’s a fraudulent human being just because he had a fluke series last year after years of choking doesn’t change anything
There are plenty of reasons that merit AA’s firing. Offering Frauddie more AAV than he signed for but deciding to let him go after he wanted more than that isn’t one.
alright alright i'm sorry for the Freddie quip. what is the consensus in the thread about how we move on from here? i am assuming we will be sellers at the deadline. who is untouchable? do we go as far as last time, or does AA take more half measures?
That nobody that matters truly gives a shit and we won’t do anything. We won’t buy or sell, we’ll keep all the favorites, convinced it’s just a bad 2 year stretch of luck and we’ll get back to being somewhat mediocre next year so the fans will keep showing up and the real estate trust will keep making money. This franchise has never done “big move” things and they certainly aren’t going to do it after one bad half season of baseball (even when all the trend lines point to this roster being very flawed and in need of a serious retooling). They know as long as they trot out the fan faves and we play somewhat competitive ball 25k+ will keep showing up. However the last 2 weeks has thrown a serious kink into that, because the only thing that will wake fans up is if they are just horrid bad, and they’re doing that right now. I think the attendance for the Rockies series will be very telling, especially if the Brewers series goes bad as we know it will. They’ve reached a tipping point of awful play and if people stop showing up it could change the Real Estate Trusts calculus.
We won’t sell. Ozuna, Olson, Sale, Murph should all be sold and anyone else not named Acuna, Riley, Schwelly, and Baldwin.
Did we not do exactly that with Coppy 10+ years ago? we sold everything that wasn't nailed down and it resulted in a world series. I realize the financial situation with the new park changes the circumstances but I don't see how this current core gets us back in the pennant race. I think we are kind of screwed.
We did, but we were at the end of early contracts and had tried to patch together something with outside help (Upton 2x, Uggla, Lowe, etc) and were at a dead end. We weren’t gonna resign Heyward, Kimbrel was a closer, etc. And that was very much lined up with moving into Sun Trust and the Battery and a vision of a team coming of age at the same time the park was opening. We’re in an opposite situation now. We currently have a bunch of 27-30 year olds under long term contracts in our lineup. Do I think we should move some of them and reshuffle the deck with a more specific vision of the type of club we want and make a roster that fits that system (along with an aligned manager)? Yes. Do I think we will? No. I also don’t think we need a big tear down. But we do have to be creative in moving some guys for other guys that fit what we need around guys like Acuna and Baldwin better. We’ve got some great young/prime position players and lots of good young arms. And we have other position players who are still valuable trade assets. But that would mean sending “braves country favorites” elsewhere and I don’t think they’re gonna do that.
I’d love to be wrong, but this ownership/leadership group has made it pretty clear how they are going to operate. We are ripe for a Rays style buy and sell deadline where we both add MLB starting assets and sell for some upper level MiLB guys who will be ready soon. But I just cannot see us shaking things up like that. We are about as anti-creativity in roster moves as anyone in baseball.
DoB did not hold back on Oz he’s regressed to a below-average defender — his two-out error let in the go-ahead run in the fourth inning Sunday — with a poor throwing arm, and he’s a mediocre base runner. This, in addition to being a shadow of the hitter he was as recently as 2023 I mean other than that, pretty good!
