It’s absolutely insane to spend money on pitching only to field a lineup that includes Camargo, Ender and Kakes
This is the thing. Why the hell did we bring back Martin and O'Day and sign Smith and Hamels if it's going to lead to us trotting out a 3-man lineup?
It defies all logic. We could’ve had JD for a reasonable $21 mil a year and used some prospects depth to acquiring another bat. That would’ve been a WS contender. Instead, we’re gonna be lucky to get a wildcard birth.
Let's go through the order CF Ron 2b Oz 1b Free ... OK not to bad so far. Let's continue. C d'Arnaud RF Kakes RF Duval/Big River 3b Camargo SS Dansby Pitcher Kakes will be out clean up hitter 1-2x a week when we have to rest d'Arnaud
I still believe that Riley can get it together and be a .250 guy with 40 bombs but with his K rate he’s never gonna be relied upon to hit cleanup.
I think we're just praying for this and that one of Pache/Waters(or both please) makes a splash at some point this year.
I don’t think it’s crazy that they didn’t sign a 34YO with injury history for 4/100 and block their top prospect.
There’s a very reasonable argument to not give JD 4/$90 or whatever. However, there’s no reasonable argument for not signing JD and doing nothing to replace him besides rolling with what you’ve got.
I agree with this somewhat but then again it’s Liberty so I don’t believe they’ll do what it takes to win
If we don’t trade for Arenado at this point I will be very disappointed. He wants a commitment to competing. I think the Braves could convince him to either completely waive his opt out or at least delay it with the core we have. If that were to happen, a deal makes all the sense in the world.
We aren't trading for Arenado. He makes significantly more than JD, plus the precious prospect capital.
If that's where you place your disappointment line, then you'll never experience anything else under this ownership.
Bryant or Marte still make the most sense from a trade standpoint. Ozuna is my slight preference between him and Castellanos, but NC also doesn’t cost a draft pick.
No doubt. I resigned myself to that years ago. I have been saying my entire time on this board how much I despise corporate team ownership.
I'll take Ozuna at this point just to have an option at cleanup. If Riley can solve the rubik's cube that is a slider, and one of Pache/Waters can contribute at some point, that lineup could be good enough.
I think he’s available. Cubs are crying poor and want to cut salary. As to what he commands, your guess is as good as mine. Bryant’s rep probably outweighs his reality at the moment, but they’ll want legit talent back either way.
The reason I like Arenado over Bryant is cost certainty. We have no idea how much Bryant will cost beyond two years. And I personally don’t like the move if it’s just for two years (or less). It’s a lot easier to go to Freeman and say we’d like to sign you to a bit of a team friendly extension in order to go get Arenado, and have both of them for the next 6-7 years. Even with taking on Arenado’s full contract, which would cost much less in prospect capital to get, if Freeman took a bit of a team friendly deal, we could have Arenado, Freeman, Acuña, and Albies locked up for like a combined $70-75 annually through like 2025, which would be a freaking steal for that 1-4.
Atlanta’s just shown no interest in that kind of cost certainty that far in the future if you’re an established MLB player. Acuña and Ozzie are way below market deals. If Atlanta were fine with a seven-year commitment, you would think they would have made a real run at Rendon.
I think Nick’s the better hitter. His defense really worries me, especially as he ages on like a 4-year deal.
I don’t disagree with you at all, I’m just talking about what we should do and not what we will do. I said in August we should forget about JD and focus on Rendon and we obviously didn’t do that. I always wonder how hard AA is fighting for these signings versus how complicit he is in the whole thing.
He's a doubles machine. He'd make an ideal 5-hole guy in our lineup, but wouldn't fill the cleanup spot imo.
https://www.mlb.com/draft/2020/order Based on this, it looks like we will get 1 of 7 picks between picks number 67 and 68. Not sure how those 7 picks are ordered.
I like Hecch a lot and I think he provides good middle infield depth but I’m also terrified that his signing secured Johan at third primarily.
