Going to wait for their lineup to add more pop before I start to give a shit. Still basically the same team
Verlander and Scherzer both running on E by August trying to carry a light hitting team at a combined 90M in payroll is going to be a sight to see as we reel them in again.
Honestly, if there is a team that we might need to make a move to keep up with, it could be the Phillies. If they get Trea, which I kind of expect, that lineup will be tough. Hopefully, their defense will prove to be too big of an issue, but it wasn’t this season. The Mets won’t begin to concern me unless they sign Correa to play 3b alongside Lindor. And even then, not to the point have having to make a move to keep up.
Kinda sorta seems like that takes us out of the Dansby sweepstakes with numbers like that getting thrown at Turner
Im just not sure how you can say that when a dude who Dansby almost had a full point higher WAR than last year just got a contract like that. This is what the market is paying…
Bae also makes his living on defense with speed. Once his speed declines you’re left with a weak arm and highly inconsistent bat
not even dansby specific but as long as the 5th/6th year isnt like chris davis level, i do not particularly care that much about the drop off. you get another title, its worth it even if the back half is meh
This is my thing.. you run it back with last year's squad (healthy Ronnie and oz) and a couple different arms, great chance to win it.
https://www.insider.com/mlb-used-two-balls-again-this-year-and-evidence-points-to-a-third-2022-12 Manfred is far and away the worst Commish in pro sports. He makes Goodell look like Michael Burry
This crap with swapping the baseballs is infuriating. Leave them alone, or if you're going to make changes, do it 100% and announce it. You can literally watch the players in some games and tell something is different. Multiple dudes pimp a HR that gets caught at the warning track, pitchers getting frustrated and constantly swapping, etc
https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTR4ptTLd/ This has to be the same year as my profile pic. It’s finally come full circle.
I certainly cant fault a team for recognizing a window and pushing all of their chips in. If we didnt have 2021 I’d probably be a little more irked at our lack of aggressiveness so far this cycle. There’s still plenty of time for us to make a move though
The market is ridiculous so far and making a wild move and overpaying a marquee FA doesn’t seem like Alex at all. Seems like things are going to have to die down a little bit before he makes a move
Kinda can’t believe Boston paid that much. This market is way too wild for Alex. Random Sunday in February or March is a lock
Yeah, the way it works is there is both a penalty for how many consecutive years above the threshold and for how much you go over. Year 1 is 20%, year 2 is 30%, and years 3+ are 50%. If teams go over by less than $20M, it’s just the yearly tax. If it’s between $20M-$40M above, it’s an additional 12.5% no matter which year. If it’s $40M-60M above, it’s an additional 40% for year 1 but 42.5% for every year after the first. If it’s more than $60M above, the new so called Steve Cohen tax, it’s an additional 60%. So if the Mets go over the threshold next year by $60M+ again, it will actually be a 110% tax next time. But I’m fairly certain it’s for every dollar above the threshold, so he means every dollar going forward. Their top draft pick also drops 10 slots if they go $40M over in any year.
I honestly didn’t think 6/140 was all too unreasonable for Dansby. But if we just feel really good about what we have in Vaughn and letting him walk allows us to get an ace or big time LF, let’s go.
