Maybe since Ozuna and Rosario are back to killing the ball they thought one black hole in the lineup is ok? I don’t understand but only thing I can think of honestly
I’m hearing reports that we’re bringing back Klansby. He requested a trade after witnessing all the violent crime in Chicago firsthand
Trying to “trust the management” but a little upset it seems we don’t see Shumake or Grissom being valuable enough to warrant losing some team control and makes me wish we had taken a harder look at replacing Dansby/upgrading short. Then again maybe we are convinced Rosario is back and don’t need the bat there. Regardless….
Idk. Arcia is the safest choice and it’s not like he’s guaranteed to be the starting SS for the rest of the year or anything. The other guys can be called up at any time
Idk AA hasn’t really seemed to care about the extra year of control for the most part. Hell we’ve extended most all of our young talent anyway. I think they feel comfortable enough with Arcia to let them both get an extra month to compete for the role at AAA with regular ABs. It’s better than thrusting them from day one then needing to send them down later. It’s definitely odd though.
Chicago is ready to part ways with him once they learned he referred to Ozzie as "my friend" not some racist term....and he also showed he can't hit a baseball
Apparently he's played like 6 innings at short in two years. That blew my mind. Not sure how safe he is honestly.
Significantly safer with his experience than a couple of rookies replacing a fan favorite in the best division in the league could be wrong, though. We’ll see. Maybe a trade is coming?
He played SS with the Brewers before he got injured and subsequently passed up. Dansby never took a day off so it stands to reason why he’s got 6 games there in 2 years.
but not well picking the known mediocre commodity isn’t really any safer than picking the unknown high ceiling commodity. him and the young guys have similar floors but not at all similar ceilings imo
For sure. I guess the team thinks they need more seasoning in AAA before throwing them out there? Just guessing, though. I have no idea
That doesn't really make him safe, IMO. The last time he played shortstop for any extended amount of time, he was -4 DRS. And his bat has been varying levels of bad before being league average last year. Knowing who he is doesn't make him safe because his performance has been pretty volatile overall, mostly in a bad way.
That's it, O'Brien said they met and decided not to lose depth so they kept them up and sent all the guys with options down.
Let's just call it what it is. It's 100% a money/control move and Arcia will be a bench bat withing 48 hours of the magical date flipping in May
i would agree if not for the braden send down. manipulating the service clock for a 26 year old possible AAAA guy makes no sense
Relying on an in house SS to replace Dansby always seemed like a decision that was made with more risk than reward. And honestly, I don’t mind too much. We really just need a solid glove who isn’t a complete black hole that we can’t hide with the rest of our lineup. But we have to have good defense at short, and I’m not sure how many of the options in house actually are solid enough with the glove.
yeah i agree a glove only guy makes sense and would be more than enough considering the rest of the roster. which makes the arcia decision that much more confusing especially since braden isn’t even playing short at AAA
This makes me think they think Shew is solid with the glove already but are concerned he could prove to be the black hole we can’t hide. That could also explain him playing second and getting at bats, while letting Vaughn get the work he needs to be solid with the glove. Lets both work on what they need to improve.
yeah but outside of last year lando is a black hole at both aspects of short. idk i trust AA but it’s weird
I maintain my first point, relying on in house options was always higher risk and lower reward. The real answer is to not have relied on in house options, but we are where we are.
