The cardinals are a weird organization to try to claim this “play the right way” bullshit, considering the actual FBI found that they literally hacked into another team’s files and were fined, suspended and docked draft picks. I don’t think any other team in the history of baseball has been accused of that, but yes, get mad about taking 2 extra seconds to round the bases.
Am I crazy to believe that a part of the reason no one made a fuss with Ronnie getting hit has to do with what happened in game 1? I thought a good ole baseball slow bench clearing with yelling and no punches was coming after he got hit, but it seemed the only person upset was Acuña. I know I’m probably reading too much into it, but it seems weird to me that a bigger fuss wasn’t made. I can’t believe we didn’t retaliate in some way.
I would think Atlanta would certainly would make the cursory phone calls and gauge the price. Have my doubts on anything more than that, but like you said, early exit could shift things from an aggression standpoint. Just based on pure assets that the Braves still have, would think Boston would want Atlanta at least publicly mentioned just from a raising the price/leverage standpoint.
Between Shildt's locker room talk and this, I think it's obvious he did a good job of fabricating an edge for his guys. Doesn't make it any less annoying for us though.
Man, I can't fucking believe DoD didn't fucking throw at Yadi Fuck him. I don't want him back in the team
I was originally really pissed at Acuña for not running out of the box, but obviously, I’d much prefer the occasional mental lapses with a dominant offensive display than Freeman getting up on his high horse and choking on the biggest series of his career. I’m kind of worried about some resentment building up with Ronnie, which is part of the reason the Ozzie contract is so big. Hopefully he keeps Ronnie cool. It’s also part of the reason I want to commit to Donaldson long-term. I think we need to get away from the crusty leadership of McCann, Markakis, and Freeman, and hopefully a long-term deal will give Donaldson - a veteran guy who embraces the “let the kids play” mentality - more influence in the clubhouse. This team doesn’t and shouldn’t have that buttoned up look of our teams from earlier this century. It’s kind of embarrassing we put a release out about not doing the chop out of respect for a player on the opposing team, only to have the Cardinals obliterate us on the field, intentionally bean our star player, and talk a ton of shit after. But I hope Freddie’s happy we lost the right way, I guess.
I mean, Albies and Donaldson were pissed at Acuña too. Don't know that Donaldson commented publicly but Ozzie did.
I dont think you consider trading Freddie but he also seems to hold this team back in the playoffs too. The numbers dont lie and frankly they are distrubing for a guy who is one of the leaders of the team. I get being upset with Ron in game 1, but your play needs to reflect your leadership more than your mouth. Acuña cleaned his shit up, but Freddie just fucked up at the plate and on the field. Im still fuming about how the team abandoned Ron last night. That was a chickenshit move.
Some of you guys are acting like our guys went out of their way to call out Ronnie. They were asked the questions by the reporters. Would you rather them say “no comment?” People would be making as big of a deal if that was the response rather than what was actually said.
They somehow avoided to call him out the first time it happened so... They did the second time and it became a story. Of course this isn’t a thing if Freeman doesn’t suck ass. But how does Ronnie not think, “Well, I wasn’t in a position to critique Freddie’s hustle because he couldn’t even get on base.” Of course I just hope it’s not an issue and we’re all just frustrated. But something also tells me Ronnie’s going to continue to have these lapses and piss people off...all while continuing to have 40/40 seasons.
Everyone has mental lapses They didn’t crucify Farters in the media everytime he had a passed ball from lazily stabbing at shit Wonder why were choosing Ronnie to highlight
I think the Cards successfully turned the narrative from "Why did the Braves give up 10 runs in the first inning of an elmination game and oh yeah they shouldn't have even been there with even respectable situational hitting" to "WhAtS tHe DeAl wItH aCuNA"
The kid is 21 years old and from another country. I got frustrated with Ronnie too but damn he's 21. Freddie is just a giant pussy. He's shown his true colors at 30. There's a giant difference in being a 21 year old and being a 30 something year old like a lot of our vets. Freddie needs to be a damn leader. He's become a baby back bitch. He needs to do some soul searching and figure out how to lead this clubhouse going forward.
So in Dodgers game last night, Will Smith came up a couple feet short on a walk off in the 9th. It looked so certain to be gone, half the dodgers had already jumped the tail and were celebrating. IF MLB really is using last year’s balls, that probably would have been a HR with this year’s balls and explains their reaction. If they really did switch balls, they’ve potentially changed the outcome of 2 series already. This should absolutely be a scandal (again, only if true)
At least we have all but eliminated "Native American Curse" as the source of Atlanta's sports misery.
I think most people would've preferred answers like the one Swanson gave: "I think he knows. We’re all grown men, professionals here. He understands. All you can hope for is it just doesn’t happen again. He understands that too. He’s too good for that. Nobody’s worried about it. In the moment anybody can be frustrated, including him. But that’s nothing we can dwell on.... He’s an unbelievable player and an unbelievable talent. We’re lucky to have him on our side."
I hope we work on locking Dansby up to a reasonable extension after his performance in that series He wasn't spectacular but he was probably the most clutch player on the team outside of Duvall
Be an interesting discussion to try and put a value on Dansby right now. When he's good, he's really good. But so many injuries and slumps.
MLBTR has their arbitration projections up: Shane Greene – $6.5MM Mike Foltynewicz – $7.5MM Charlie Culberson – $1.8MM Adam Duvall – $3.8MM John Ryan Murphy – $1.2MM Dansby Swanson – $3.3MM Luke Jackson – $1.9MM Grant Dayton – $800K Johan Camargo – $1.6MM Those all seem pretty straightforward. Pick up everyone besides JR Murphy I would assume.
1) Riley ain't ready. I would love to go after Rendon but I kinda think he will stay in Washington after last night. Try to get Donaldson to take a team friendly 1 year deal with a club option in the second. He was pretty bad in the playoffs and is old so I don't think the market will be insane for him. 2. Noo idea what to do at catcher. We obviously have zero faith in Flowers. We have a couple of decent prospects down there with Langliers and Contreras but they aren't close to ready. We need to sign a free agent. Grandal would be awesome. 3. I think we start with Ender Duvall Ronnie outfield and I can live with that. Duvall is a big league outfielder, we have just treated him like shit because he was bad in the small sample size in '18 after we traded for him. For the love of God I hope we don't extend Markakis. Pache and Waters could potentially both be up by the trade deadline. We also have Riley to work in there. 4. Bullpen tends to take care of itself. No big contracts to relievers and make adjustments at the deadline as needed. we have a lot of young guys that can plug into the pen. I would be okay with a small extension to either of those guys you named. 5. I doubt we extend Julio and I have no interest in an extension for DK. I think we will sign a Julio like starter to eat innings. Anderson could potentially be up in June and he may start a playoff game next year. A rotation of Soroka-Folty-Fried-Anderson is I think how we ideally end the season next year. I'm just not sure who the fifth guy is going to be because i have no faith in any other younger starters in AAA besides Anderson. And I doubt we make a run at Cole, Liberty wouldn't pay up. So really the biggest question mark to me is catcher. I don't know the market well enough to figure out where we will land. Although I have a feeling I will be disappointed with whatever we do.
No one would care about Fred’s answer if he’d hit .300/.400/.500 with 5 rbi. Let’s quit acting as if anyone has a problem with it otherwise
I'm pretty sure we can raise the boy out money for Kakes via gofundme. Let's all chip in and help our flexibility
one thing we need to do this offseason is figure out a role for touki and stick to it. tired of jerking him around between roles and stunting his growth
Maybe I’m misremembering, but I was really surprised when Albies hit the dinger in game 4 and stood in the box and admired.* It didn’t clear the fence by much, and I kept thinking how he narrowly avoided getting murdered by everyone. Anybody else have the same thought, or am I being a dipshit. *I am 100% in favor of bat flips and admiring dingers in every single situation.
Only thing that can make this better is firing snit. Freddie can’t really comment negatively over things after his ass play.
I have a problem with the whole thing.. 2 feet shouldn't be the difference in the guy being in trouble or not. If watching the ball is a problem it should be on home runs as well.
if tegg bans jrmy from this thread so we are lifted from the curse of reading his posts, i would fully endorse tegg for manager
I appreciate what Snit has done as a steady hand during an unsteady time but that time has passed. We need someone who can max out our young talent not stifle their growth because “that’s baseball.” In short, let Ronnie pick the next manager. Also, fire Markakis into the sun
Snit should be fired/demoted based solely on his shit decision of choosing Keuchel as our 1. Pitcher on a decline that has zero room for error on mistake pitches, had inconsistencies throughout the season, and has a horrific playoff resume. He's a lefty Julio, but he's our "ace" because Soroka is good on the road and DK is old? Fuck me. Put your best out there as much as possible. It really doesn't get any simpler than that in the playoffs.
top 5: 1a/1b/1c: me 1a/1b/1c: you 1a/1b/1c: scsa 4. SC 5. clown baby bottom 5: 1: gin. we all (rightfully) hate jrmy and his posting but gin literally cost us a world series appearance with his arrogance and air-headed obliviousness. still hasnt apologized either which speaks volumes about his character 2. jrmy. need i say more 3. ale. his mere presence is an affront to this thread and frankly to humanity as a whole 4. freddie. i realize he isnt a poster here (allegedly) but his shittiness the series transcends the message board ether 5. dmx. he still hasnt apologized for his ronnie at lead off takes which, again, speaks volumes about his character these are final and will not change until winter meetings
