That's fine. I don't hate him. I just hate the marginal risky 1 year moves vs being a real franchise and trying to sign top players to multi year deals. I also feel like 1 more expensive starter would have been more beneficial than 2 10s of million dollar guys At some point in time we're going to stop hitting the jackpot on 1 year players
Speaking of Hamels I wonder if he’d take a redemption deal for like a mil or 2 to see if he’s got anything left in the tank
it’s pathetic what ale has turned this fanbase into. that’s why we needed to ban him for good instead of allowing his crying bullshit to seep into the psyche of others
We've signed another 40 year old dude coming off his worst season in a decade. Cool, he dominated the no longer cheating Astros that one or two times. Yay!!!! Maybe we could have nutted up and spent an extra 6mm on a real pitcher like Zack Wheeler last year or used the deals combined to sign a top end guy to give us a legit solid top 4 for the next 4 years. We are adding marginal pieces that would be great deals if we had unlimited money
I don’t think the guy who finished 3rd in AL Cy Young voting the last time we had a full season is a “marginal piece”
there are real life, seemingly functional adults crying about the fact that charlie freaking morton is now our #4 starter get a fucking grip, guys
Now do one where stuhly only cares about his one start against the Dodgers because the Yankees and Astros are AL lineups
*Braves sign Nelson Cruz following adoption of universal DH* Stuhly: “We signed a 40 year old who hit the fewest home runs he’s hit since 2008. This sucks”
Morton's first two starts last year were awful. After that.. the veteran righty returned with improved velocity and a 3.72 ERA in seven starts before going on to post a 2.70 ERA through 20 postseason innings.
i for one wish to make sweeping declarations about our #4 starter who 2 years ago was a cy young contender because of 9 starts in a meme season
It's more a bad allocation of extremely limited resources vs the contract/signing. We've not spent 26 million on two spots when we are extremely deep in SP. I hear Folty is doing well in rehab and looking more like a an emo teenager vs a heroin addict. Don't count him out
Id be very interested to know the ERAs of the guys we marched out there every fourth and fifth day this season.
I mean let's ignore his two years prior, the fact that one is coming into their prime while the other is closer to death than most MLB aged players
the fact that we spent 26m on those two spots is a really good indicator that resources arent extremely limited i've criticized AA as much as anyone but he isnt pumping that much into the back half of our rotation without assurances from higher ups that he has more money to play with than we believe
We spent 26 million on two spots when we really only needed to spend money on 1 spot. Don't you kind of agree?
Here’s the thing: After Bauer who we can’t afford, are there actually better options than Morton? Tanaka, Paxton, Minor and Odorizzi are pumpkins and Kluber, Lester and Arietta are corpses. Smyly is a bit of a meh signing but we should be ecstatic about Morton imo.
no not at all we need 5 starters for a full season and we just upgraded big time there while also freeing up some pieces like wright/wilson/touki/etc to be moved to the pen or part of a trade package
they like the underlying numbers on smyly. its a fine risk as a 5 starter/bullpen piece. as long as we re-sign marcy/comparable slugger and bring back MM or shane on a team friendly deal, we have had an A+ offseason and addressed every hole on this team imo
Is stuhly suffering from steroid-induced memory loss. We were forced to throw three rookies in the NLCS and taxed the hell out of our bullpen.
we started bryse wilson, a closer and 2 rookies (one of which absolutely sucks ass) for 5 games of the NLCS starting pitching absolutely was an area we needed to address even with soroka coming back
Charlie Morton removing himself from one of his first starts as a Brave because he had diarrhea makes him very relatable for me.
Are you really about to advocate for signing Lester, Kluber or Arietta simply because of age? Morton has absolutely been better than those three the last few years
Well, that's b/c Manfried is a fucking loser & fucked up the off days. Right Tobias? Also, they will not be rookies anymore after this year
