Guys bitching about Barves not spending, I guess y’all forgot about the massive deal we gave to Josh Donaldson
Sorry fresh out of dividends but we've got a bag o' dicks for ya if interested. Thanks, Liberty Media Shareholders
Definite C. Didn't address OF or the rotation as they had implied. And no, I don't count signing Donaldson and forcing Goat into a super utility role as improving the OF. Maybe in a perfect world, Riley rakes and picks up the OF quickly.
The team is still only marginally better, but not even favorites to win repeat with or without Kimbrel. Closer wasn't really the Braves problem in 2018. This is a repeat of the Atlanta Baseball Talk podcast from Sunday, but there are few off seasons with the opportunities 2019 provided. Freddie most likely doesn't have many years left of his prime, and we have some fantastic young and cheap players. With the combination of young, cheap talent and available money, it seemed like 2019 was the best opportunity the Braves had to compete for a NL or even World Series title for the foreseeable future. The Braves flaws were pretty obvious in the playoffs, and when I compare this team to last year's Dodgers, Red Sox, and Astros, it still falls pretty short with or without Kimbrel. Finally, how can you get anything better than a C if you're predicted to go from 1st to what 3rd or 4th the very next year?
Chicks dig long balls and we just spend on a guy that will be marginally better than what we got now. Meh
Gonna be amazing when we give Donaldson a big 3 year deal for his 34-37 seasons after being unwilling to give shit to guys who are 26
I still have to think we have our eyes on an OF somewhere that fits what we want. Again, we could be prepping Riley and hoping he takes a good many AB's from Kakes with Goat filling in
Think you missed my point due to poor wording on my part. What I was trying to say is that we have bigger holes than closer. We would have gotten smoked by LA even if we had Kimbrel last year.
“Freddie most likely doesn’t have many years left of his prime” might be the dumbest thing ever posted in this thread
if the braves sign kimbrel to a reasonable deal the offseason is: [ ] office seasons 2 & 3 [ ] office seasons 1 & 4 [ ] office season 5 [ ] office seasons 7 & 9 [ ] office seasons 6 & 8
Guys I’m going to win the next billion dollar lotto jackpot and buy the Braves and then spend 30 years spending an absurd amount of payroll and racking up ridiculous debt and then sell for pennies on the dollar and kill myself. You’re welcome in advance for the 10-15 world series
*Meniscus repair. Very different than meniscus surgery where the torn meniscus is cut out (which is the what they did to Chipper). I actually thought you were joking about the 1-9 day recovery period for a meniscus repair, because that is literally absurd and objectively incorrect. That’s why I liked the post. I do not understand this gripe. The take on Freddie was pretty vanilla. 2019 is his last season in his 20s, and it does not seem unusual to expect any PED free player’s productivity to start to slow down once they are on the wrong side of 30.
I get what you're saying, re: age curve and stuff, but he was the best 1B in the league last year, and the top 5 was FF (age 28 season), Goldy (age 30 season), Carpenter (age 32 season), Bellinger (age 22 season), and Votto (age 34 season). Worrying about FF is pretty far down on my list.
I mean. Granted less ABs, but he had better ops, slugging, and OBP in 2016 and 2017. And anyway, that point is moot. It’s not the argument I was making at all. Even if his stats are still great in 2020 — which I think they will be, I think nearly all current projections would predict better 2019 production than the production they predict in 2020 season and beyond. That was the reason I mentioned him when attempting to make a point at saying 2019 was most likely the Braves best opportunity to make a big push.
It was just a bullet point for saying 2019 was a great year to make a push. Craig Calcaterra said a lot of the same things in the podcast I linked yesterday. (If interested: http://www.atlantabaseballtalk.com/ )
I once tore a meniscus mowing my yard. With nothing more than a pair of salad tongs and sturdy scissors I was able to remove the damaged tissue and was back out mowing my lawn in less than 10 days.
Not to change the subject or anything but have y’all seen the Pecota projections for Ronnie this coming year? Don’t seem high on him this year
The ones in baseball prospectus handbook are a little different but pretty close. My question on Ozzie is would it feel different if his 2018 was spread over the year instead largely not doing a ton after May. I think he’s a little more valuable than they have him. Also don’t see Flow putting a 3 win season. Just shows how much they value framing in their projections for catchers.
Drown ‘Em maybe wait until the first pitch of the season to go into full “fuck this team mode.” We’re still on “fuck this front office” at the moment.
