The thing I’m struggling with the most wrt to Machado and Harper is that, despite the lies from upper management, we’ve got the flexibility to sign 26 yo superstars to long term deals if we frontload the money. Also, the more I think about it, Donaldson is a probably lose-lose situation. Hopefully he shines, but then if we try to extend him he’s not going to take a pay cut and with his advance age it becomes more worrisome long term. And if he bombs or gets injured, then we committed a ton of money when we could’ve maybe been a serious contender with the big guys or even signed a handful of lesser stars like Marwin, Brantley, or Mouse.
ZIPS has Juan Soto having a better year than Acuna overall in 2019. Justification? Because Ronnie would have a better WAR in CF, which doesn't make any sense when Soto isn't a CF either
He should be our CF. He becomes a Junior Griffey or Willie Mays type player there and his WAR in CF would be higher than in a corner OF spot where bigger offense is more common. Should have moved Ender this offseason and shifted Acuña to CF.
not even the point, Acuna had a better season than Soto last year and they play the same position, both 2nd year players so what is the reasoning for Soto having a higher WAR?
as always, i must say that advanced stats are ruining baseball* *except for the TQS stat which many are saying is revolutionizing the game
Agreed. There's no reason to create two holes in the OF while we have a gold glover on the roster and no legitimate options ready to take over in either corner.
Putting him in CF just to let him pump his WAR numbers up doesn't make him a better player than if he were making the same impact playing RF next to Ender.
I have a similar saying about Julio Teheran and another team Unless AA wants to get back in my good graces
He’s incredible, but he screwed up pretty basic plays multiple times last year. As long as Ender is on the team, he’s the best CF. So no, i’m not.
Hate my three time Gold Glove winning center fielder because he hit .264 last year despite his .290 career average.
Could AA have done more with the roster? Yes. But, it’s foolish to pretend that the roster needs some massive overhaul.
Not back pedaling at all. I could care less if people agree. I’ve been consistent all offseason that Ender should have been a part of a trade for pitching. Obviously none of this is happening at this point of the offseason but I was of this opinion in November.
I just like when we eat our own and try to make someone feel stupid for having a different opinion about our Braves Very "Lord of the Flies"
Another reason I think “we’re not trying to win the offseason” is dumb is that we’re still boned from the international signing sanctions for the foreseeable future. That coupled with the fact that we can only draft high school pitchers who we refuse to trade is baffling.
