I would do the paint then. Who knows, some other things might come up and push it further out. This way you’ll have a kitchen you’ll be happier with.
I've done a lot of painting and cabinets suck. To do it right, they have to be disassembled, hardware removed, sanded, primed, then two coats of finish. If he can do that for 1500, then I'd say let him have at it. I would recommend talking to someone that he's worked for before, though.
Also, I like that you have the confidence to reply in this thread like a seasoned home owner. Dress for the job you want, not the one you have. Amirite?
Any tips for cleaning out a dryer vent hose that happens to be behind a wall for most of its travel towards the outside?
How many bends? Shop vac and a clothes hangar usually do the trick. Doesn't need to be perfect, just get the majority of it every year or two.
I paid someone to do it, but mine is in the middle of my house and has a few turns and is quite long. The guy found two dead birds and a nest in it. Apparently the previous owners had never cleaned it. If you don’t have many turns there is a special brush that you can use that is like $20
I’ve seen pics of cabinets he’s painted and saw the person was happy. Here’s what he told me. Now that I read it again, I’m not sure he’s going to sand them. “What I will need to do is put 1 primer coat on everything so the paint has a good surface to stick to. Then that would be followed by 2 coats of Sherwin Williams Pro-Classic white semi-gloss acrylic enamel. And then coat everything with a clear sealer product called Pro-cryl to help protect it. For the labor and material the total cost would be $1,475.”
Four days to complete it, but that included him taking doors and drawers back to his home for spraying.
If anyone was waiting for a deal on Lifx bulbs: https://slickdeals.net/f/11801003-lifx-a19-a19-lights-b1g1-or-b2g2
i've posted this before, so sorry if I'm repeating myself to you, but in case not: we redid our kitchen, and to save costs we painted our cabinets and just got new doors to the shaker style that modernized our kitchen. You could do the same thing here as your cabinets are in fine shape. Doors are extremely cheaper they certainly weren't bad before, but they were more of a cream and the new countertops we were getting we needed more of a true white. Not to mention we wanted to update the fronts to be more modern;. We kept the hardware as it worked nicely. at extreme cost savings it looks like we have almost a completely new kitchen.
I asked, and this was his response: “I will be sanding as needed and definitely cleaning all the surfaces. The primer is called Extreme Bonding Primer and I've used it before to paint over glass so it will stick to anything. If the cabinets are pretty glossy I will go over them with sandpaper just to be sure.”
Has anyone built stairs out of trex-like material? The bottom of my doorwall is 45" from our patio, I called a couple places to see what they'd charge to build stairs with a landing and one dude told me $5k which I laughed at, and another told me $2200, which didn't seem terrible, but at the same time it seems like a relatively easy 1 day task that I could accomplish myself.
Feels like you should be able to get away with building anything structurally with wolmamized and then just Trex-like material on top. All Trex is wildly expensive.
Doing this right now actually. I learned how to cut my own stringers just out of 2x12’s. Then trex material for the treads. It ended up being 7 steps from about a 4’8” deck. Be careful not to go too wide between stringers or the Trex will feel bouncy. I would recommend cutting a template of the stringer in plywood and then use that to draw and cut the 2x12’s. There was a really good video on YouTube too where the guys used a square and 2 hand clamps and a scrap wood to make sure stairs were consistent. It worked for me.
Do you have a picture handy? Building stairs isn't that hard, but I wouldn't recommend everyone try it. Do you know what line of Trex you were quoted? Select-cheapest, low def, solid colors Enhance-mid, good texture, solid colors Transcends-high end, high def grain, variegated colors
Side story...the 16’ trex are like carrying a wet noodle. I had to finish the board around my decking after I put the posts up. After I notched them out I was trying to put it in place by myself. Definitely a two man job. It slipped off the deck and pinched my thumb and then cracked at one of the post notches. It somewhat pieced back together but I’ll forever notice that crack. As for my thumb, half the nail was black and blue. After a night of throbbing, I told my wife I was going to drill it to relieve the pressure. She starts to watch me put a 1/8” drill bit in and says you know you will have a hole in your nail which was the point. Blood squirt everywhere but relief was almost instant. I wish I did it the night before.
The 16’ square end trex select in pebble grey I got from 84 lumber were $37.75 each. 4 16’ was enough for me to do 4’ steps that was two Trex wife (5.5” each) for my 7 steps. The risers are just open for now and will probably stay that way. White PVC stair rail kits where $130 each. Add in a few 4x4s and caps and such. It shouldn’t be anywhere close to the $2000 they quoted.
We got our cabinets repainted for our remodel...spent like $1700-ish on it. Two thoughts; 1. Pay someone who knows how to do it, fuck doing it yourself 2. Totally worth the money, our’s looked similar to yours and we went white for the upper cabinets and grey for the lower ones and they look awesome
Pics? We were heavily considering doing white and gray, but with gray walls, we worried that may clash with the wrong light.
Had a guy give me a quote of $1975 to regrade my backyard and sort of dovetail is down towards my neighbors yard. Any thoughts on normal pricing. I’m on a quarter acre lot, so the area he’s regrading isn’t overly huge.
man it was all part of a big quote with interior and exterior paint. But I believe the cabinet doors were $1500-2000? We had to do uppers and lowers, you could just do conventional uppers to match your lowers, which look more modern
OP asked about a landing as well. Riser, skirtboards, treated framing, it all adds up. Building steps is labor intensive, and can be with materials too. We do the stringers on 12" centers for all composites. Hidden fasteners might be another $70.Don't know if he needs posts/footings etc. I would have no qualms about charging $2k or more if the situation demands it.
Red hot needle will go right through your nail and is prob a bit less likely to go through your finger than a drill but you do you....
Dade/Broward home buying update. GF wants to spend 20k+ under our budget if we are going to move to Broward but is falling in love with houses 70K over our budget in south Miami. IMO this is one of those situations where I let her get it out of her system instead of drawing the line in the sand.
Push comes to shove you show her the payment difference with a mortgage calculator of that $20k she wants to chop off vs. the $70k she wants to add on.
of course. There is also the fact that the more expensive houses in Dade are 50+ years older, still have copper pipes, need extensive renovations to open up the floor plans, etc... She's resisting because it still freaks her out to move north, but she's going to see logic in the end.
Just finished the motherfuckin deck. I’ll post pics tomorrow or once I get it cleaned up and new furniture on. My dad helped with the last part. He did masonry for years. He tells me great job with it all. I said thanks you taught me all I know. He said no I don’t, you google everything. Good times.
Minor help needed. In my bathroom, the cold water handle (right) for the sink isn't putting out enough water. When I fully engage it, it only comes out at 30-40% power. When I slightly turn the warm water handle (left) it shoots out at 100%, but the water gets hot pretty fast. I'm in a condo and for any plumbing work the whole building has to fucking shut down. Is this something I can do on my own, with minimal experience?
we have a few good re-modeling people around , but? we also have a few cunts in the bunch . you know ? the type you want to hit in the face with a claw hammer . you dumbass motherfucker .
especially if you are a vocal trump thred fuck . and I read what you said and then you made a feeble attempt to convince me that you know your shit ? sorry I hired someone . .
Not always, but the answer is still yes, it's possible. Might have to lift the granite off the cabinets though. Obviously depending on where the sink is and how long the run is that "easy" can turn into $.
