I have had an August for 2 years and like it, don’t use the front door a lot so it mainly gets used during football season when I have a lot of people staying with me.

If I got another one I would probably get one that also has a keypad on it though.

I haven't had time or the desire(read: it's hot as fuck) to build anything yet. I've cleared the area I want it of some surface level shit that was in the way and picked up the stone for the fire pit last weekend. Slowly working on it but I'm not lighting a fire here for like 4 months so it's a process

    How's your research

It looks pretty convenient. Was thinking about pulling the trigger, but none seem to be in stock around me, so I'm either going to have to wait for it to ship, or just say fuck it and do it the normal way.

It's pretty hot here as well, so probably wont start excavating until the fall anyway.

I have a Schlage. No complaints. One works over BT the other over Z wave.

We have the z wave and have it hooked into our home automation. Various people that come by have their own codes and I can unlock remotely using wink which i use for most things.

I kinda like the idea of the smart lock, but sometimes I have seen in laws on the doorbell camera when nobody is home, that I am fine with leaving locked out, that I am sure the wife would let in

your in laws pop by unannounced, while you aren't there?

Separately - you could set up and not add your wife or share your login w/ her. My wife doesn't have the nest login info - not because I won't share, but because genuinely doesn't' care to have it.

Yea, when I met my wife she lived in the epicenter of a family that puts on a 300+ person family reunion every single year

We moved about 30 minutes away, thinking that would be enough, but unfortunately the city between us has kind of exploded so they all travel toward us to shop, etc.
They know my wife doesn't work so many of them just "stop by" because they are nearby

Very well. AC Infinity Airtap T4

Its thermometer setting is backward since it’s supposed to supplement the AC, so you have to set it to kick on once it senses air moving below a certain temp.

I'm a newlywed, so in law life is new. With that said, I'm glad mine ask ahead of time. We moved ~8 minutes away from them, so for some, that would be a disaster.

Halp. Finishing up the t8 led retrofit, and the green ground screw isn't threading into the metal fixture. Is there some workaround, like maybe a thicker ground screw? I only saw one size at home depot

A lazy fuck such as myself would thread the ground wire through the screw hole and wrap the wire back around itself and electrical tape it. Same thing as touching the screw.

Edit: Just make sure if your ground wire is green jacketed that bare ground wire is touching the metal screw hole.

Shouldn't be any different than any other peril, unless your policy excluded coverage for lighting strikes (which would be uncommon, but I suppose is possible).

Damn, that sucks. My parents' house got hit when I was in high school, I was in the kitchen when it hit the roof right above me. It fried almost everything that was plugged in and caused a old battery powered sound machine toy of mine to start making noise until we went up into my bedroom and took the batteries out. It shot some of their shingles a few hundred feet into neighbors yards, but luckily the house didn't catch on fire.

I guess we are lucky, as it could have been worse. Gonna get the electrician to fix it and then try to get reimbursed. I can't wait on the insurance to drag their ass around to fix it. Guy said they have great success in reimbursment claims.

Update: We had an open house Saturday and Sunday and had one person show up during those two days, largely due to the road still not being completely open. Well that person put in an offer and we accepted it on Monday.

Inspection is this coming Monday. If all goes well we’ll close on August 16. We close on the new home July 22. For now it’s looking like our (my) gamble won’t come back and bite us in the ass. It’s been a long process for sure. I’ll be glad when it’s all said and done.

    Update:

The lightning fried my attic light wire. I have opted to disconnect the live wire from it and just cap the wire as a new wire ran would be 500 to 1000 bucks. My electrical panel, breakers, all gfci outlets and smoke detectors were replaced. ( I am not sure if this was needed, but he said it's standard procedure for lightning and for saftey reasons). I think I'll take knowing my panel is fine over the potential cost savings. All in all prolly gonna run me about 5k if the insurance doesn't cover anything (which I'm sure they will).
