Washing machine broke Never call Puls, they suck. Stupid "tech" company Called local guy, looked at it for about 3 min and said "Motor broke, buy off Amazon, if you not install call me. Hope that's it but tho" Then paid him $20 Wtf
Need some advice (A/C related): I had the same issue with an older unit where my AC guy said I should replace the whole unit to get the newer Freon because the price of the older Freon is going up. I went ahead and did this, replacing both the furnace and outside AC unit. The guy that did the work is the husband of my wife's friend .. he works for an A/C place in town but he was going to do this as a side job for cheaper, which his employer allows him to do. He went ahead and did the work but our house does not cool nearly as good or fast as it did before. Same brand of unit and same size, at least as far as I can tell. He just keeps telling me that it is acting normal and it just takes a while to cool down the house at the hottest part of the day (after work). This unit takes like 3 hours to go down 2 degrees, where as my old one would do it in like 30 minutes. And if people are going in and out of the house during that time, forget about it...its not going down. I cant do much like go to his boss because it was a side job, which was my choice... Any ideas?
A lot of HVAC guys try to shave costs and undersize the line set going to your A-coil which limits how much it can cool. Basically the copper tube is too small and you don't have good enough refrigerant flow. Could also be the wrong size A-coil or it's in there sideways and preventing proper air flow through it. I can't imagine any newer unit would cool worse than an old one, I'd recommend having a neutral third party take a look.
And when you have someone else look at it, explain in full why you are asking him to look, that the installer was a friend and you just need them to double check everything is kosher
So with my AC issues, not sure where I left off, but had the guy out to replace the motor on my downstairs unit, they did a great job and even checked the freon pressure for both units. Both right where they needed to be. Next day, upstairs unit stops cooling. I call them back out. Guy comes out, hooks up the pressure gauge and it reads zero. He checks and the compressor is fucked. This unit has been a bitch, a couple years ago, a lizard climbed in and committed suicide by stepping on two terminals. #RIP At the time, that fried the capacitor I think, (it fried something which had to be replaced) and then I realized i had issues with my Nest. Troubleshot it and identified it was the backplate. Replaced that. About 8 months later, had a similar issue come back up with the nest. Replaced the nest completely this time. Been good since. When he unplugs the compressor he sees some electrical burns on the plug. He tests some parts with a volt meter, and confirms the compressor is dead. Says he needs to check on the home warranty company and suggests I look at replacing the unit. Gives me a quote for a two ton unit for $7300. I laugh and say goodby. Next day, they call with the quote from the home warranty company. They will replace the compressor, but I need the optional code upgrades. This is how these HVAC companies do it. They do the work but ANY code work which is usually optional, the HVAC company will make required. They are replacing the compressor at a discounted rate to get the business from the warranty company, so they charge everything else at an arm and a leg. Locking Freon caps - $150. You can get them on amazon for $24. UV Insulation (That's the pool noodle looking foam on the freon line) $135 Conduit for the low voltage line - $135. Freon - R22 - 10 lbs - $75 a lb. All in it would be around $750 out of pocket for me. Or I can have someone else do it, and they will give me a check for the amount of the compressor - $405. So I start getting other bids. The challenge is all the decent HVAC companies will not do R22 compressors now. The issue is they can't get the R22 so they can't warranty it after January. I get quotes to replace the unit, most are around 5500 or so. I call the warranty company yesterday and bitch up a storm. I explain and start looking at my old claims, and get escalated to a guy and explain this exact compressor was replaced in 2015. Its less than 4 years old. He starts back tracking a bit, and asks to look into it. Said if it was replaced recently, this may change things. They may just need to replace the unit. So fingers crossed. Who knows. They were supposed to call today and i heard nothing. Will call tomorrow. The important part is the service tech told me, they have been buying as much R22 as they can and have pallets in their shop waiting for January. At that time, they can charge whatever they want for the R22, because it wont be produced any more. The only R22 left will be recycled (recaptured) R22 from systems being replaced. So if something goes wrong and they have to replace the freon, I will end up paying for it down the road and its probably going to be a chunk. I think the warranty companies are telling their tech companies to just stockpile the R22 to use that as the profit for deals after January. Be warned.
Had landscaping company out last Wednesday and they said they would get back to me early this week. Haven’t heard anything. So I guess I’m giving them a call tomorrow. Need to finally push this thing along.
Ya I could see him cutting costs but I will listen to both of you and have a third party look at it. I thought I got a good deal by doing it this way, but it doesnt count when it doesnt work right.
All you dudes that got the LG washer dryer set, you have issues with the dryer drying clothes completely? Wife bitching about it.
Do you see an error message after it finishes (d80, etc)? That indicates a lint blockage. My issues went away once I cleared that outside
My dryer has never been that great, likely due to it being what was there before from a rental unit. Think I might see if cleaving the vent helps. Is something like this the best way to clean the dryer vent? Deflecto Dryer Duct Cleaning Kit, Lint Remover, Extends Up To 12 Feet, Synthetic Brush Head, Use With or Without a Power Drill
Yup going that route for sure. Nah this is the highest end group for sure. My architect said we should be 18-22k
I know what you’re thinking and you’re not wrong, but this is my co-worker/boss and he does a lot of high end residential work so we have a good handle on costs.
Come home after dinner to no A/C what so ever. Had fingers crossed that it was just a capacitor and it was. Our system probably needs replaced, but fuck if I'm not sure if prices are spiked over dumb tariff shit. Also very fortunate that the thing waited till the unseasonably cool weather to pop, so we could still sleep somewhat comfortably last night.
A month later, but hey the oven door opens like it should. Couldn't figure out where the latch was at, so had to wait. Now I know where to go in the future, but forget running that feature ever again. Time to celebrate by going out to eat!
Any pressure washer recommendations? Looking for something to clean my exterior steps, driveway, fence, railing and maybe wash my car.
Fridge looks to be on the way out, so given timing (Labor Day sales ongoing), I felt like value could be had, even on somewhat of an impulse/duress buy. Wife went to store and ordered this - am i in big trouble??? https://www.homedepot.com/p/GE-25-1...el-Fingerprint-Resistant-GSS25IYNFS/309003622
Pretty happy with this. Sun Joe SPX3001 2030 PSI 1.76 GPM 14.5 AMP Electric Pressure Washer with Hose Reel, Green
I've got a 3000psi cheepy ryobi that works damn good Just strong enough for all you describe, but not too strong to fuck shit up
So I’m going to put a French drain in my backyard on Friday. We built a patio and that caused a shit ton of water for our neighbor so I feel bad. I want to tie off my three down spouts in the backyard as well. So I’ve got a couple of questions: 1) I assume I need to keep my French drain system separate from the down spouts to reduce the introduction of debris in my French drain, right? 2) will tying 3 down spouts into a 4” pipe blow the pipe off with heavy rain? Do I need to run separate pipes underground and off the property for each downspout? 3) would anybody consider running a channel drain at the edge of my patio surface AND a French drain across the low part of my yard for good measure?
Anyone ever replaced a toilet tank? Have a hairline crack and I have tried every which way to just seal it, but have not been successful.
I’ve been considering some of the same but also looking into Dry Wells for my downspout. Check them out too.
Trying to avoid this option as I would probably have to get outside help and my wife has been dying for a bathroom remodel. Replacing a toilet would probably initiate that.
I used Flex Seal tape to “fix” the crack on my washer drum a few months back. Redneck as fuck but no more leaks.
Rebuilding a toilet and replacing the tank is not that hard. Just remember to not over tighten the bolts that holds the tank to the stool.
a toilet is going to run you like $250 to replace. Finding a tank that matches your current old toilet is going to be a pain in the ass and cost $100+. If replacing a toilet kicks off a full bathroom remodel, something is very wrong in your house. As for the extra help, it's probably doable on your own. I've never done it, but it's doable.
It's not hard. You just need a toilet and probably a new wax ring. It's just a couple bolts and re-attaching the water line. I'm sure youtube would be plenty helpful there, but it's really pretty easy.
