House too small to find a quiet place but too large to permit a face to face conversation is a conundrum. I assume this is a gf, and not a spouse?
Blew a grand on a new breaker box today. My busbar was ruined and main breaker out. Box had nails in it from the previous owner. I replaced the main breaker(had a literal nail lodged in it) a couple of years ago, but the real problem was the box and busbar which had been ruined from some dipshit driving nails into the box while hanging siding. Lesson learned. Paid somebody to do it but honestly wish I had just done it. Didn’t seem that hard.
That's what I was thinking while I was watching the guy that was changing out my springs. Took him about 25 minutes to swap one out and 10 minutes to adjust the other.
So alot of the appliances/furniture in the house was stuff we got from her parents. They sold their house and moved back to Vietnam on the same day my offer was accepted. Now I'm in the market for a few things. First will be a fridge. Not opposed to getting something used as I won't be in this place more than a couple of years. No interest in a smart fridge but want to avoid a lemon. Based on y'all's reviews sounds like stay away from Samsung and maybe whirlpool is the best?
I was really confused by the placement of the old tires for a minute and was like why the fuck does that thing have 8 tires and how many big ass roots do you run over to need a dual axel deck
Thinking about doing a wood facade over the current ugly white pillars we have in the front of our house. Something like this: Anyone have experience doing this?
I bought something like this and aimed it at my neighbors yard. They commented a couple weeks later that they can't figure out why he decided to be so good out of nowhere... Edit: This is the one I bought: I also bought a hand held one so I can zap neighbors dogs that start barking all crazy at my dogs. I feel like an asshole now. It's basically an electronic dog whistle.
Dogs bark at a detectable frequency. This detects that frequency, creates sound that we can’t hear but dogs can’t stand. Dogs stop barking.
Sounds mean as hell. My dog won't bark at all if I am home. Once I leave, she will bark at my wife for no reason. No clue why, but it annoys her and annoys me b/c the wife bitches about it every time it happens. May look into this...
Yeah or any other adult i.e. babysitter, if we aren't home. She doesn't need anything either. If she thinks I've left the house, I'll hear her barking downstairs. Probably some form of separation anxiety? I don't know?
Yes. Do you have questions in particular? It's not terribly difficult, and you are unlikely to really destroy anything in trying. What material are the existing pillars? Are you prepped for the maintenance involved with the wood (stain/seal every so often). Do you like the material (cedar) in the picture you posted?
3 years into a full gut renovation and 99% complete. We’ve already moved in. added new gas service to the property (water heater and range) which required trenching in a new service line in the front yard. That was done months ago all we need is the gas company to set the meter to turn on service. Jesus christ going on day 12 without hot water now cause these - fucking assholes - are the completely trash people that don’t show up when they’re supposed to as you burn vacation time waiting for them to arrive during their 7am-5pm window. FUCC WARSHINGTON GAS
So pulled out the Christmas lights this year and nearly all of them didn't work or were half working. I bought the cheapest kind at Home Depot so I expected some to not make it, but i would say 70% of the strands didn't work. I admittedly stuffed them all in a box after taking them down so I guess I didn't really use too much care when storing. I also wonder if they were damaged by excessive heat in the summer because they were stored in my thinly insulated attic. Any experience here? it's really not a big deal but it surprised me.
I want to go with Cedar, but may do the slats horizontal instead of vertical. Currently they are a cheaper plastic column. The maintenance shouldn't bee too hard. There's only 4 and they're about 7 feet tall.
The lights I bought at Lowe's had a strand not working (as mentioned before). This weekend I took the strand down and went to Lowe's to get a new strand. They only had 2 boxes left and upon further inspection had completely different light bulbs that looked 5+ years old in both boxes. They are just putting stuff people return back on the shelves. They don't know when they'll have them in stock. And they have to be the same because they have the little prong connectors, not the typical outlet connectors. After looking for replacements online. I am thinking about just returning the 2 strands I have left for a in store gift card. Walmart is selling them for 79.99/box (and is sold out) and I bought them at Lowe's for 32.99
Also I would buy the LED lights if I knew they would last, but I honestly have no idea if they are worth it.
If you have vinyl columns now, you'll want to replace them with wood to start your build out. Might look into a tongue and groove cedar planking if you are going horizontal. There is a profile that has a v milled into it that might give you a nice look, depending on what you are after. If you are going through the trouble of removing/replacing posts, you might just price rough sawn cedar 4x4s or 6x6s. Don't forget to put column feet/bases on them either way. Not allowing air circulation at the bottom of a wood post is never a good idea.
I'd rate LED strands as slightly more reliable than the incandescent kinds. So basically they're slightly reliable.
you may check and see, there is probably some form of wood stud(s) inside the plastic column that is actually bearing the load, so you may be able to completely remove the plastic and build off of that
Re:led Christmas lights Have been all led for a few years now Only had one strand as much as blow a fuse Came home today and one of my outside tree wraps is not working Check the little fuses in the plug and one is popped I replaced it, plugged it in and all seemed to be well As I turned to walk away I hear a noise that sounded like a fuse popping Turn around and to my surprise the lights are still on, but I noticed a little poof of smoke drifting away from the tree Found one bulb on the whole strand out, I guess that is where the smoke came from Now I am not going to be able to sleep worried my tree is gunna catch on fire
I’ve got a strand of lights that are exactly half out. Replaced all fuses and bulbs. I’m an electrical engineer and can’t figure this shit out. Christmas lights are stupid.
Yeah I don't even replace the lights, just throw the whole strand away if half of them aren't working.
Does anyone have any input on satellite internet? Place I need internet is very rural and may not be able to get a cable, but my research shows satellite internet "works everywhere" ... a bit skeptical.
It’s absolute trash. I have it at my cabins and it’s basically dial up speeds. Luckily they’re burying fiber right now so I’ll be able to cancel it soon
no competition (other than other satellite providers), largely useless in comparison to standard home high speed. Ask for speed information or find it in the fine print of your service. Could be 3Gish speeds.
Yea, it works everywhere But it sucks ass, only use as a last resort If there is cell service, a cellular hotspot will be infinity times better
I guess it's worth pointing out that as an occasional service (e.g. vacation home), it will probably meet your needs, but if you're hoping to stream Netflix I would next expect positive results with consistency. Again, the critical things to look at are your speed and if you have a data cap.
Data cap was the worst when I was on satellite Streamed radio for about 2 hours and it was done Radio. Not even video
This will be my first time filling taxes as a homeowner. I'm assuming that I need to get an accountant?
It depends on a lot of factors, but unless you have a lot of deductions, you may end up going with the standard deduction now that it's so much higher, even with mortgage interest writeoffs.
