Pretty sure I’m going to German Smear my wife and the downstairs fireplace before the quarantine is over.
Est to move was $2,200. 9 hours total load/unload. IDK, that seems high. It was for 9 hours total. 5 men. That seems like a lot. Hope we can do that in half the time
I've called a few other options and they all seem to be about the same price. One was more exp. Two trucks Company A was 5 guys at 190/hr Company B was 4 guys at 220/hr. I guess that's just what it costs around Atlanta. Other option is do it my self. But fuck that's daunting. I'll probably put a bunch of stuff in my storage unit that I can move myself to make it quicker/cheaper. Shooting for 5hrs total vs 9hrs in the quote. Try to shave off 6-800 bucks
Yeah, that's what I am saying, they know you can't gather a few friends and cover it with pizza and beer. I think your plan to shave time can easily work now. Load up as much as you can and leave them the big shit.
Yeah, agree. It'll be a boxes and furniture, not much lose shit. I think I can get this done in 5hrs total. The last time I moved, 15 hrs ago, I was in there helping these fucking people to get done faster. Was kind of annoyed they spend time wrapping up my shitty furniture , like ya'll this costs more per minute than the fucking furniture.
Looking at either doing a cedar pergola with Poly Roof or a Standard Truss roof over my 27x16 patio with Cedar Posts and maybe a tongue and groove ceiling. Thoughts?
Its awesome. I completed my twinwall poly roof over my deck last fall and its by far the best improvement I have done to my place. The Poly is pretty easy to install, just make sure you do it right. I did mine over 24" truss with them attached to a ledger board on the house
Buyer's underwriting is wanting a structural inspection. I'm going to have a fucking panic attack over the next 24 hours
Ugh... that was asked for my house i sold in philly last year. all because the adjoining house was torn down and under construction. let me just tell you - it's impossible to find an engineer willing to state something is "structurally sound". They don't like the liability. so before you proceed and pay anyone, I suggest you find out from their lender exactly the language they need and then find an engineer willing to provide that exact language.
The lender/buyer is paying for it. I pray to fucking god they get this right. My house is about 70 years old. I don't have much, if any settlement issues in that long. I don't think it should be an issue. I had two inspections on my house and none mentioned anything concerning. They are out of all contingencies periods right now, so i get their earnest money if they pull out but I'll be fucked if I can't sell my house
In our previous home we lived way back in a an older neighborhood that was heavily wooded. When we moved it was kind of strange that most houses on the block had a whole home generator. Well first storm that went through the power went out and our street was one of the last ones to be turned back on. Not a better feeling in the world for the power to turn off and to slowly start to count. By the time you got to 10 you had power again for everything in the house. Some people want I pool, I want one of those in my forever home. They are great if you live in an area where you consistently lose power.
My electrician pretty much lives off of selling whole house generators. He puts in a ton of them. I’d really like one of the battery back ups. Know a guy who has one lives in a remote area in the woods and he loves it. Only thing I’d be curious about is how long they last. You know for a generator you’re at least good until your propane runs out.
Those generators are expensive and a luxury but when day 3 of no power in the Deep South hits you really appreciate that you still have AC. I don’t really know anything about those but aren’t they usually attached to some solar panels.

Prefaced with I’m not handy at all. Previous owners had a security system so when they moved out they didn’t reconnect the doorbell chime. From what I watched on YouTube, I need to reconnect the wires to the front and the transformer. Do I connect the red or black wires, or is there something else to do? Spoiler
I'm not handy either, but I don't believe the wire colors matter. That is based on forgetting which was which when I wired for a smart doorbell, and I'm pretty sure I switched them but nothing happened. My advice would be watch more YT videos until you see one way or the other.
Finally got my Ubiquiti UniFi network up and going. Thanks to Willpépé for the suggestion. Definitely not the most user friendly but I will say the speeds over traditional modems/routers I had are pretty crazy. I am easily 3x what I had before.
I have a guy I used in Atlanta via home depot that was a "helper" not a mover. I brought the truck in, they unloaded it and placed it in the new place. The guy was certainly an ex-con but very nice, moved fast and was incredibly cheap. If you are interested i will fish up his info. It was 65 an hour for two guys
Need to reseal my deck, anyone have something they like besides Thompson water seal or is that still the go to? Last deck I had we painted with the restore thick stuff, so thinking about maybe going with this Behr Quick Dry Oil Base Wood Finish which seems to be a stain and sealer? My deck is also prob 10+ years old, so not sure if that matters. https://www.homedepot.com/p/BEHR-Pr...r-Naturaltone-Exterior-Stain-490101/304494461
I've already got it set up and paid the deposit. It's cool. Last time I moved I got randoms off Craigslist and they rented a truck that AM and moved me. Def cheaper
So I'm having to get new service when I move and Comcast is the only provider for internet. I'd have to "rent" a router from them. It's a 2900 sqft house, 3 levels. I'm checking to see where the ethernet connect is. This is a new home, I'd hope it's wire. Didn't think about it until now. So, question. Can I just not "rent" the comcast router and get a Googel Nest Wifi Mesh system? Or do I have to use their router then lay out the Nest mesh mini's on top of that?
That chicken coop! I just signed the deal to get my fence put in, I paid for a second gate just so i can have a gate away from my chickens. I didn't tell my wife this, just said would be more convenient. It will, but also chickens
I want to build something out exactly like this. Get them a coop then a little fenced run they can get out in so they have room away from my dog
Could use their equipment. Can get into the settings and turn the wi-fi off so it essentially only functions as a modem.
Everything needs a coat of stain but yeah, it's suuuper nice to be getting 4 fresh eggs a day. Yeah they like to have a bit more space and the more organic material they eat, the better your eggs are. Even with a large coop and a run, they still are squawky little bitches and want out because they can get the big worms in the grass.
There is a difference between a router and a modem. Comcast is renting you a "modem" that converts the signal from them into internet for your house. A router turns that signal into wifi so you can have wireless access to your internet. The comcast modem is both a modem and a router. The Google Mesh is just a router. You can buy your own modem, but they are expensive and if it takes a shit, you are on your own. When I asked the same question to my office's IT guy, he told me that even he rents the modem because it's much less hassle on his end.
I've never heard of people's store bought modems crapping out being a major issue. I've had mine for quite some time just don't buy a POS. And I'm not sure what hassle there really is besides having to hit up your ISP and provide the MAC address for them to allow it when you setup which has always been simple. Think I did this over chat last time. IMO part of going BYOD is saving on the rental if you're having to pay for that. The modem pays for itself usually in under a year and then you're in the positive.
Your IT guy sounds shitty Source: I'm an IT guy Jk but really the only point of view against it I understand is cost. That initial investment of a mesh system + modem can be pretty high. It also depends on what your ISP rents their equipment at. $5/month probably not worth it to most. $10/month and I think it is. I'm also all about cutting down monthly costs any way I can.
ARRIS Surfboard SB6183 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem, Approved for Cox, Spectrum, Xfinity & Others (White) (my Amazon link wont work) I’ve used this modem with Google mesh for the past 2 years (300 mbps). There was a week or so period where my internet kept going out and Cox blamed it on my equipment (their go-to if your internet isn’t working and you don’t rent equipment from them), but they were wrong and the issue was fixed after they sent out a tech.
Same modem I had the Google mesh for 2 weeks and it was fantastic zero complaints. But then this went on sale for $180 a couple weeks ago so I returned the google and kopped it. Performance rivals Google's and the speaker is legit. Shit bumps. I do prefer the look/size of Google's.
Speaking of internet and since there’s not a “Stupid things my painter did” thread... internet went out Friday afternoon. Called att and we ran through all the troubleshooting and they said they had no outages but couldn’t get it working. They’ll send someone out on Monday. Welp, found the problem quickly...having a guy paint the exterior trim of our house and, for reasons that I can’t fathom, he stapled the fiber cord back to the trim. Staples aren’t good for most cords, and definitely not fiber.
I had a shitty IT guy at my office and a really good one. The really good one is who told me not to deal with it. I don't disagree that in many cases it makes sense to have your own modem. This was one of his main concerns. Considering comcast is the WOAT, made sense.
