what i was thinking, but also led me down that it'll be an adventure attaching while its all on the wall but that one exists already
The way the instruction on that kind has been that I’ve put up in my own home is that way. Get a buddy to hold it up while you attach from the backside. Did they leave you the little bolts though?
yeah ziplock you can barely see in photo has bolts seems like moving crew will be able to make light work of it, just wanted to make sure i had all the pieces i needed which it seems yes
It certainly does but they’re made for different sizes and weight. Could attach easily and you’ll be fine or you could be half way through an episode of Big Bang Theory and your TV hits the ground. Looks like a clean set up but I’d ensure that’s at least into some studs.
Those bolts are easy to come up with anyways. It’s a pretty easy install. Definitely don’t buy a new mount.
I think hardwood looks better but I would probably put LVP everywhere for functionality. Obviously it was the choice for our basement playroom and laundry room but I like it enough I wouldn’t hesitate to put it on the main floor if we ever had to replace the hardwood that is up there.
eh, you are pulling up and throwing away some of the existing wood to let the new stuff bleed in for that scenario. Maybe even laying down the old planks you pull up amongst the new ones if you’ve got them matched. There will be a patchiness to start in the transition, but after a bit (and with rugs and such further breaking patterns) it won’t really show up unless you’re looking for it
Lyrtch I would also do contrast. If it isn’t going to be an actual match, don’t attempt and fail because it will look bad. Just do something different and it will look better than an attempt at matching. A good rule with design is either hide it or make it a focal point if you can’t. So either hide the transition (match) or make it a design element.
yeah think we settled on just lean into the contrast now to try to get our floors sanded/refinished before we move in, sellers hid some floor staining that will need to be patched on floors we'd already got concessions on to get redone but its bad enough we need to do it ASAP. pain in my ass. BUT Dave from Daves flooring thinks he can get us in and done in the next two weeks, haven't heard sterling things about them but mostly good.
dave been doing flooring for 43 years (he'll tell you this a lot) and he laughed at another flooring guy who told us he could get us in sometime in June and we should wait until then because the gaps in the wood will fill up with sealant and cause problems, basically made it seem like you should only get your flooring redone in the spring "young kids trying old sales tricks but are too stupid to realize us good floor guys haven't had that problem in 15 years since we moved to rollers, bet that kid just pours sealant down and squeegees it across your floor like we did way back in the day, he really trying to tell you he only refinishes floors 3 months out of the year?" dave is also a salesman, but i like dave, if the flooring turns out badly i wont like dave though
I’m looking to redo my guest room and want to get rid of my bed and mattress, but I spent a lot on them. Any suggestions on selling them? Can I sell the mattress?
You can sell just about anything on Facebook marketplace. It’s become my bulk pick up go to instead of taking stuff to the dump.
Depends on age and condition. Mine was probably about 4 years old but in pretty god condition. Got $250 for it (king size). No idea if I could have gotten more. I posted it thinking no way any one buys a used mattress on Facebook, but I was wrong.
This isn’t groundbreaking news, but I guess I’m getting old because I was excited to realize Ryobi batteries work with all of their tools. I got a battery operated small saw a few weeks back and can use the same battery with their leaf blowers. Guess I’ll be copping one of those soon.
Such a great set. I have the cultivator, string trimmer, metal trimmer, pole saw and a blower. Just seeing there is a brushless auger post digger that I need soon and was going to rent but now can buy.
great reply, thanks. I'll read in detail about what integrations each brand has (I'm going for Google Home/Assistant). The Wirecutter recommends Denon, https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/best-receiver/ and I'm sure B&H/Adorama will have great reviews when I get around to comparing the newest options. Reusing my old AVR is a great idea, which happens to have wifi and app control. Do you think an AVR can make it outside in Texas? I would assume not, due to 100+ degree temps and frequent humidity and resulting wear and tear on fragile components. Any AVR shelf/enclosure would likely stand out on the homes exterior wall when all I had assumed I would just have a volume dial. Question what is a "$20 home box"?
Being outside cannot be good for the electronics. I did have mine on a garage shelf for at least 2 years with no issues, but my preference would be to keep it inside in if you have wifi control. I was just referring to a $20 google home speaker or alexa monitor, since those are easy to replace if needed. My last two AVRs have been denon - I've had great luck with them personally.
Man I've just got an old AVR that was given too me hooked up to an echo and wired to some very old cheap Sony surround sound speakers that I just located outside up under places where they don't get wet Yall fancy
That's a good idea for my current application...I only play the radio and use one station on my patio. Never thought of that.
That leaf blower is pretty week. I returned it and got their bigger one. Uses the same battery as the lawn mower though so still good
I was wondering about that, thinking I might end up needing the 40v battery rather than the 18 version. I noticed on the description it said something like “recommended for hard surfaces”, which made me think it could be weak, although that’d mostly be how I used it. I have a Toro weed wacker that is battery operated too, so might see if they have a leaf mower that works with the battery.
Anyone have any tips in fine tuning the rachio? I didn't test my rain bird before disconnecting it, it has 6 zones connected but only 5 work. When testing it it appears every sprinkler is working so not sure why there is 6 zones
I thought I had 6, but every sprinkler comes on with the 5 zones so I guess I have. Just not sure why 6 zones where wired then
Is it weird/dumb to replace the only two huge windows visible from the street and not any others in the house?
Yeah it's two of these monstrosities. Guessing they are original to the house. Interior window sills for them are both warped. Energy efficiency at a -1 out of 10.
Your equipment hasn't given out due to heat and humidity? My gut would be that this equipment doesn't last too long and I think you too are in DFW
West of Austin But it's been on a shelf in my garage with cheap interior speakers outside under eves and my elevated decks for close to ten years and I've only ever replaced one of the speakers when it got dropped about 20 ft by the guy redoing my siding
Full kitchen remodel started today. Kitchen is closed off so we're taking a wall out to open up to dining/living area. Was told over and over we'd need a beam or some type of support cause it's load bearing. Also, thought we might only be able to smaller cutout looking through cause there's also plumbing coming down from second floor. After getting behind wall there is a beam running across the length of the house so wall isn't load bearing. Allows us to completely take out the doorway type entry into the kitchen opening it up much more. And the pipes coming down will require a pillar but nothing major. I'm sure the next surprise will be shit but this is fantastic.
that's awesome. we had to put up a steel beam. as for pipes, given the good news, make them move them if they can so no beam!
That would be a nice find. I wish I could have that luck. Have been renovating my 1970 house off and on for 8 years and I don't think I've ever started a project here where I didn't run into some kind of unexpected problem. Was replacing two windows in a converted one car garage this weekend. Get them out and the framing is all sorts of fucked up. Those windows should have taken a day max to do but instead I spent a full day just reframing and getting that straight just so I could put the new ones in.
We are same. Decided to redeux the kids bathroom. Figured a two week project. I've now had to replace the whole floor, pvc, several studs, also the shower size isn't the same as the modern prefabs so spent this afternoon learning how to float a shower pan. All interesting but the two weeks started before Christmas.
Building a new deck on our house. Looks like we will be using Trex - should I go with Trex Transcend or Trex Select? It’s a $3k difference ultimately. I’m trying to understand whether there’s a measurable difference in performance, scratch resistance or longevity. Appreciate any input from folks who have done it.
Pretty sure I have Transcend and it's great. Had it about 8 years now, only thing I've had to do is power wash it every year. As you probably know that's more down to sunlight than anything else. Two large dogs, no complaints.
Appliances are the worst gd racket. 2 water heaters, 3 washers. 2 dryers. 4 fridges, 2 microwaves. All different makes.
