Yes, typically spring/summer is heavy build time. Winter a little slower. Covid has people slammed, but I did just have a GC say his subs have recently been asking for work so things could be slowing down some.

    C-C-C-Combo Breaker.

We haven’t had a shit show story posted in a while so why not be the guy?

We agreed to rip out our hardwoods (beat to shit) and cutting edge early 90s tile, to put in a porcelain tile that looks like wood. Flooring store who I assume has done this before, measured everything and quoted 5 days for the job. We are also replacing our carpet but that’s a separate job being scheduled for later.

So we cleared out our kitchen, living and dining rooms and packed as much up before they showed up Monday. It’s Thursday and no tile has been laid. The demo basically took three days and they weren’t done. So I could hear the guys hired to lay the tile on the phone today raising hell bc it wasn’t ready.

They spent the entire day sanding the glue off the floors and striping the mortar from the areas the tile was before. Hoping they can start tomorrow laying tile. The guys here today think it might take another week.

Fun part is my wife went to stay at my mother in laws house for a week with our 1 year old. Really hoping she doesn’t have to stay all next week as well and I have to travel for work next week. So fuck me.

As a surprise for the wife our cabinet drawer slides are the shittiest thing made, so I went and got new full extension soft close slides and installed them while they were gone. Of course two drawers are rubbing the frame due to the bottom being bowed out from years of holding silverware. I have those clamped with shims to hopefully straighten them out so they slide better tomorrow.

Fuck it, it’s time for wings.

How does one go about setting a renovation budget? I'm trying to get ahead of some fireworks in the stark home. Not sure if there's a rule of thumb that says you shouldn't spend X% over the home's value for a primary bathroom vs a secondary, etc.

Best way to think about it is to look at the whole house. Figure out what the max price per square foot is in your neighborhood and work backwards from there. If you realistically can’t sell the house for more than 50k of the current value and you need to update two bathrooms and a kitchen then divide the 50k up among those projects. Really you just want to make sure you aren’t over building for your area if you ever plan on selling. If it is your forever home then it really doesn’t matter.

So weird question. My wife soaked one of our shower heads in vinegar to clean it out and now it has much lower water pressure, which is the opposite effect usually.

Ended up replacing the shower head but the new one has lower water pressure too.

    Any ideas?

Best guess is there is a filter or pressure regulator on the head that got more clogged when stuff became dislodged after cleaning.

so that would mean the new shower head probably has a filter that we didnt remove since it's similar pressure?

Went out to my shop this afternoon and the door/entryway was covered with what appeared to tons of ants. After further inspection, they appeared to be have wings. I’m pretty sure they’re termites, but I have never dealt with termites and they were all out in the open. It’s a metal shop with some wood framing, but that’s it.

Gonna call the pest control people first thing tomorrow but can anyone confirm from this (very shitty) video?

We have an overhang off the side with wood stored underneath and went and looked and a lot of it looks like it has termite tunnels. Gonna get rid of all the wood there.

They are winged termites. They are swarming/leaving their nest to go start other colonies. Different than the workers that don’t leave their tubes

Something like this but not so huge. We have a bunch of metal containers to put all toys and balls and everything in and it's nice to have a place to put coats/wet clothes.

Closer in size to this one but with bigger spaces with metal containers all up and down the sides.

Went to Menards and bought a bunch of white prefab wood and just built it myself. Sketched out a design and built it but went generally with 8 x 8 since the wood generally comes in 8 foot lengths and so did the backing.
