We have a chimney and piping in place for a stove in the basement. I’ve always wanted to get one. Wife says if we did it would have to be cast iron, but those are too expensive. so now we have a paper plate looking thing covering the hole, lol.
It’s relatively cheap for pipe and such. I have a chimney where I exhaust out of and got a liner and inspected since I was using it as a primary resource. That was less than $200. It’s also cheaper than oil/gas/elec. Not sure how much, I’ve never done the math. I just enjoy fire, work from home, and the way the heating works as a primary source is perfect for us.
yea in retrospect it was silly given the money I saved in year one to be so cheap. Your other post reminded me I instantly unwired the blower I purchased and boxed it up to send back due to the noise. Ended up settling on the most CFM via a computer fan I could find. Not as efficient, but the biggest upgrade of the stove was to not have to listen to a loud ass furnace built the woodshed out of 100% reclaimed materials on my farm.. tightened up the trim and burned all the wood since this picture was taken
About shit myself reading some of the money people spent building similar sheds when looking at plans.. think I have enough material to build at least three more for just the time, but would feel guilty charging what it would actually cost to buy lumber and pay someone to build
Shed's beautiful. Keep in mind, people like me would not build a shed like that in literally a million years. You couldn't pay me to do it. I'm not above it, just that I would fuck it up in ways you could never imagine and experience lots of anger through the process. If I wanted one there's not even internal dialog, I am paying someone.
blotter you could slap the word rustic in your name and probably charge a good 33-50% more than what you're seeing now.
Why is the fire pit on a narrow walkway secluded from everything else where pool overflow can douse it
Anyways I think it looks neat Imurhuckleberry. Aren't you out in the mountains? Is yours going to be the only modern looking build in the area?
Most of the places on our lil ridge line are a bit more modern. All built in the last 2-3 years. Get further into town and the houses get older but a lot of unique places.
First offer before hitting market. Investor, asking price, full cash. They wanted a decision before hitting market tomorrow. Lol no
good morning friends. closing on the house tomorrow and close on the sale of our current house in 2 weeks need recs on a lawnmower. yard property is about .6 acres, and since lawn care, etc. was handled at our current home, I've never had to look into anything like that. looking to spend up to about $500, but have room in the budget if needed
.6 is like sucks assholes to push but rider is a little much. $500 won't get you a rider, either. Honda makes kickass push mowers. I have one because I had like 10 different people all say Honda and they weren't wrong.
We had a self propelled for about the same amount of land. Wasn’t terrible, but took awhile. FIL had an old riding mower he fixed up and gave us. Can cut the yard in about 30 minutes now. Or take multiple passes and make it real nice. Think you’d be good with either, just depends what you want to spend.
It’s not a full .6 acres of mowing area. There’s a pond and a garden area that eat a not insignificant portion of the backyard, so that’s why I thought a push/self-propelled mower would work. But again, have not had to do this previously so
Knowing how long it takes me to mow things I'd guess it would take you maybe ~2.5 hours to mow a full .6 acres with a self propelled. Obviously deduct the things like pond/garden.
Yeah just get a nice self propelled. Take your shirt off and get a tan. Harder to drink a beer, but you’ll figure it out!
I've seriously considered a beer helmet. Settled for a beer on the deck with a swig every round or so.
Man I could have used a better and/or 2 blowers this morning. Was fighting 20+ mph wind trying to get leaves out my garage. Took way too long, video would have been great. If my neighbor was outside she definitely heard me several times "FUCK YOU WIND FUCK!"
It was absolutely not helping. It did help in blowing leaves off my curb which I am greatly appreciative for.
Closed on the new house Tuesday. Looking for refrigerator recommendations. Initially looking at this one that's similar to papa LAU's fridge, but these are the general features/style I'm shooting for and preferably under $3K (hopefully won't be a problem with black friday and such upcoming) https://www.bestbuy.com/site/lg-26-...maker-stainless-steel/6250127.p?skuId=6250127 Also not as immediate of a need bc I have an apartment with washer/dryer on lease until 12/31, but also will need those and wouldn't mind getting a BFriday deal on that while I'm at it
Don’t think it matters on the fridge, they all have their issues. I’m a big fan of my top load GE washer and drier
My last few major appliances have been bought at best buy outlet and were brand new, just out of the box. Just don't but a Samsung french door and you should be good. I've had lg washer/dryers for several years and they're still going strong
Fence is done. May go back later and staple the wire to each board, we’ll see. May paint it white, doubtful. Shed is getting there. Need to paint the front doors and more trim. Needs a ramp. Will build a loft inside. It’s way too big. Need to burn the dog house.
Funshot Residue and others, I am replacing 170 feet of baseboards in my living room areas. I have the baseboard, and just need to have it installed, holes filled with putty and touched up with paint. What is a good price I should be looking at paying in this market? I have considered doing it myself, but unfortunately with a 1 year old running around, its not easy to get time to do it right now and my wife is ready to have it done yesterday. Any ideas? This is in Texas by the way.
Ok for any financing bros out there but others too as you have experience… have a $100-120k reno in mind but not sure best way to finance. - I can cash fund some material portion of this - call it $40k - planning for initial expense to do a 401k loan to handle the balance (5 year 5% interest) - just refinanced in past couple years and have loan at 2.875% - have about 100k equity in home now; presumably final product adds 50-75k value (conservatively) Really don’t want to plan on a full refi in ~6 -9 months if/when this is done given where things stand in economy/inflation/interest rates and don’t want to handle this via HELOC for same purpose. (Maybe an irrational fear, but want to limit risk). Am I crazy to consider solutions besides full refi at end of project that allow me to lock in a fixed rate for the 60-80k I don’t have cash to cover, but on a longer term than the 5 years the 401k loan allows? What types of rates are available and how much of remaining equity (or future equity) in home can I use on options?
Those new Smasung fridges are pretty sweet looking for but I have sworn off their appliances. Never again. LG has been great to me. Absolutely pointless but my LG TV having a pop up alert telling me the oven is preheated looks big baller.
