Have a built in oven that the broiler element went out. Can get new part for about $95, but after watching videos worried about the wires coming off element and falling into back of oven. Anyone done this before? Repairman quoted me around $315
I spent 14k on a new roof and somehow I feel like I didn't get boned. Was hoping to milk it for a few more years to decide if we're adding on. But oh well. We plan on doing the siding and adding a deck in the spring. Stove caught on fire during Thanksgiving (yes she called me before the fire dept or police. So I drove home like a lunatic because she didn't know how to use a fire extinguisher). Today it got replaced. New washer and dryer coming soon. Im running out of shit that I don't need to replace and or fix. Not sure how I feel about that. FML
Lol my biggest hold up is if I'm temp or permanently fixing something and or going to hate it down the line. The decisions are frustrating. I refuse to do the kitchen. Ill refinish the cabinets and maybe do granite counters but she can suck a fat dick if she thinks I'm going to burn money on a kitchen she doesn't ever cook in. But people keep making comments like it's my legal obligation to tear into every room and putting my mark on it.

Anybody ever get one of these? Debt collection notice for pest control that I'm 99.9% certain we've never dealt with. The debt collection agency appears legit from light googling, but I've never even heard of that creditor and my credit report shows 0 delinquencies of any kind.
Is the pest company local or a company you recognize? I think I’d start with them first but I’d also try to get in touch with the collections agency before their deadline so they don’t end up putting something on your credit report by mistake.
Do they need an SSN to report to a credit agency? I assume a pest company wouldn’t ask for that information.
I've never heard of them before and they're based out of a far away state but appear to have a branch here. As I double check it, it looks like the company I have my termite bond with (separate, higher bill) has closed permanently and I'm guessing they sold to this group. I don't know of any unpaid bills with them at all, and certainly have never gotten any correspondence from them, but that's the only thing that makes sense. Separate but related, if that IS what happened, would that mean my termite bond is null now?
Probably I've always assumed those things were a scam kinda like the home warranty company things where if you were to actually get termites they would just blame you for not calling them sooner and you still get fucked Big termite had a huge lobby in the legislation
Probably so, but mortgage lenders often require them around these parts Another way to nickel and dime homeowners. It’s like a home warranty for termites. Pest control company has to pickup the tab for getting rid of termites
Anybody know some good augmented reality apps or anything that helps with interior design? I'm having a whale of a time trying to figure where to put a fireplace
Magicplan app is p sweet edit: it’s more of a floorplan utility to be clear not AR. Not sure if it will do the LiDAR scan type stuff(?)
Any of you squares have a Leaf Filter or some other gutter protection system installed? Tired of climbing a ladder to fish leaves out but that shit's pricy. Any first hand accounts would be met with an immediate like
We put something in the gutters that basically is like a pool noodle, but spongy and shaped like a wedge. It fills the gutter pretty much and sits flush* on top. Nothing really falls in. A quick blow with the leaf blower sends most over the side and down onto the lawn. I just went up top to do Christmas lights and in a few places, the spongy material was not perfectly flush and was sagging (due to not being placed just right) allowing some leaves and decaying material to accumulate on top of it. Of course its wet and mucky but only in maybe 3 feet of my 100 feet worth of gutters. Don't remember name or price, but HD had them. Maybe $100 give or take. Installed in 30 minutes.
previous home owner installed these or something similiar on the gutters. I appreciate that decision.
Let's talk front doors. Just got a quote for a double door with windows in it. $4k. And the guy wants $2k to stain it and install it. So $6k for a front door. I have a mental block regarding paying anything over $5k for a front door. That's $5k for the door itself, the staining, the installation etc. It's a damn door. Although I'll acknowledge a good looking front door with windows/glass can make the entire front of your house look better. What would you expect to pay for this?
To install the door, is the replacement the size of the existing door? If so, I think that's very steep.
feel like if they are ripping out sheetrock/siding/etc and redoing the framing you got a pretty good deal.
Exterior doors are expensive as hell. My wife made an offhand comment about changing ours when we bought the house so I've strategically dropped comments over the last year about how our current door is one of my favorite things about the place
Our current project has (4) doors that cost more each (doors only) than your entire project, and they aren't top of the line. If you are getting structural work done as well, and you should be, you're getting a hell of a deal. We install several per year where the unit itself costs more than 10k. The cost of the average replacement unit 3'0 x 6'8, 9 lite glazed, fiberglass insulated slab, framesaver jambs, with PVC brickmold unit went from $575 to $875 or more within the last year.
I’m replacing my back door with the same size one and getting some wood rot on the frame repaired, quote was $625. Unfortunately the price for actual door I’m looking at has gone up almost $400 in the last year or so. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Steves-...or-with-SL-Pet-Door-FWTN-32SLP-4OLH/302351209
Fuck me. May be looking at buying a home. They’re trying to up our rent $600 a month. For the price they’re asking we could by a nice house in the burbs. Going to talk to them about a negotiation. Been here in these apartments for like 7 years. Shit, could probably find a nice townhome in the city for what they’re wanting. It says if it’s over $75 a month increase to contact them for negotiation. Never had to ever do that for any lease agreement here as it’s never been that big of a jump
