Got the appraisal back for our construction loan for the place we’re building for my dad. 110k over the build price so assuming no crazy overages we should be good to go. Ordering windows tomorrow.

Kudos to you for being smart enough to hire that out. Cutting down a tree in the forest seems like it’d be easy but inevitable fuckups are likely.

With that said, you’re probably capable of cleaning out your own gutters.

No stackable option on CR but these are the front load and compacts. LG is the best currently based on both CR and the appliance guy at Home Depot. Let me know if you want the deets from CR on anyone in particular.

interesting side notes from appliance guy.

    1. The LG front loaders have this brace magnet that keeps the door open about a half inch to fix the mold problem.

    2. number one cause of death on these washers is power surges killing the motherboard. Surge protectors for your washing machine isn’t something I thought I’d be recommending this week but here we are. 6489B539-174B-4BDD-8DBB-D07315D93312.png 019C63A0-50F5-4901-92E3-547BE5289C15.png

I recently upgraded my vacuum and dishwasher to Miele and have been a huge fan so far. Pricey but the shit is very well made. In my new house I'm going to be going with their washing machine and heat pump dryer, pretty excited for the dryer.

They installed about half the lights and as I was leaving this morning they were dropping off 5 rolls of turf. I asked him to take the turf closer to the fence on the side that you can't really see in any of these pics (the lights weren't installed over there yet, so i didn't take pics). He said they should be done on Wednesday.

Like mentioned earlier I am about to be building a new house and I'm on the hunt for all things that. Have the houzz new tab chrome extension so when I open a new tab it opens with a picture and I've gotten several good ideas from it. Other day it opened with this one which had the backdoor solution that would be perfect for what I'm looking for. In comments actually found it's a costume made wrought iron door/window from a company in Houston. I'm too scared to look the pricing up on it because it's probably 10X what I'm comfortable paying for a door.

Don’t grind it down and leave all the shavings in place which turns into a giant litter box for the neighborhood cats like my former landlord did.

If you can get them to cut it off as low to the ground as they can, then do a bunch of "plunge " cuts into it, it will disappear in just a couple of years

To kill off some scrub oak I drilled 5” deep holes in the stump and used the poison ivy version of round up in those holes to kill the roots.

Aside from being a biohazard it also turned into a tripping hazard as the wood decomposed. The ground would sink down a few inches when stepped on.

Which door are you referencing? You say back door but the only one that is clear is the front door.

On that note, the front door of that house is awesome but I can’t imagine having essentially a giant window for every random salesperson to stare directly into my home. Even if a friend came over, I’d like a chance to put a shirt on before they see me.

Careful with this. I did this to a tree stump. It worked but it apparently also leached out from the roots and killed a couple of nearby shrubs

Home Depot sells stump killer. You drill some holes, pour it in, and give it a few months. Then you can either burn it or let the chemicals keep doing their thing.

As a new homeowner stuck at home bored during Covid, I tried to burn the stump of a green crepe Myrtle without really looking into stump removal beforehand. We basically got drunk and had a bonfire. Do not do what I did. Still dealing with the stump 2.5 years later.

I've heard of lots of people starting little fires all around their yard doing this because the fire burned down to the roots and slowly burned the roots underground sometimes where the roots got close to the surface

Said it could go on for days

That’s the exact picture I was using for our back door as well and ended up not wanting to pay for custom iron. So we ended up with a custom wood fabbed door that looks similar from Jeld-Wen’s EpicVue line (sliding instead of a hinged door that opens on one side). It looks good and similar thinness maximizing glass, but we’ve had lots of trouble with it. Would recommend going with a different brand like Marvin if you can find something similar that you like. Or just go nuts.

Worst fucking winter ever for this in NY.

Its been so warm in general this weekend was the only shot at pulling it off. We got down to 3 degrees here Friday so I was banking on it being rock solid. After a few hours the weaker end cracked too much and finally messed up the ice. I'm going to try to do cosmetic work but I think the season is done for. I doubt it gets cold enough for 3 days to pull this off again. It's going back up to 50s this week.

Dogs solve this particular problem nicely. They will also likely destroy your landscaping lessening your attachment to it as well. Getting the problem from two directions.
