I had a similar problem and it was the water flow regulator that busted. It's the thing that turns down the water pressure from the city so it can flow through your faucets. Ended up popping the over flow regulator thingy on the water heater and caused toilets to run. I had to replace the insides of 2 toilets. Plumber had to come out and fix the shit.
Who here has a sail canopy/shade sail as a deck shade? Our rear deck is going to need one now that we cut down a couple 80' hackberries. Dimensions are roughly 10'3" width, 14'8" length of the deck area in need of cover; if we did a more triangular one, I believe the width was about 12'6" (avoiding a lean-to that's our laundry room). Any experiences on brands, etc? I'd have two poles and one or two anchors (depending on whether I did a triangle or trapezoidal one). For the poles, they'd be going into a 4x4 post (corner of the deck). They're not going to be very high up (7-8'), but do I need a ground wire or something just to be safe?
No idea on brands, unfortunately. I'd think there would be decent installation instructions available online? Check for that first. Lemme know if you need help with details. One Two is great with spray foam if you need any of that.
I feel like those shades are a buy once a year item since it's probably getting beat to shit by the sun all the time, so I wouldn't think to much about it and just buy whatever looks to be a common shape/size so it can be easily replaced using the same mounts
So earlier this year we had a clog and roto rooter was able to get it out, pulled out non flushable baby wipes, yelled at the wife and all was good. just had another clog and had a plumber come out, they aren’t able to get it out. I get an auger, nothing doing, now $800 deep and still clogged but we figured out where the clog is. We say fuck it and cut the pipe open. There is a god damned metal pipe inside my sewer line, like 2 feet long and 3/4” diameter or so, like a piece of a folding chair. Pull that thing out and a massive toilet paper clog out and fix the sewer pipe. Hopefully this fixes things, but wonder how long this metal pipe has been sitting there causing clogs.
Think mine is going on 4 years. Fabric still fine but do need to redo the rope attachments to the hooks that I put on our eaves
that was my reaction. My FIL was helping and I’m like, there’s a metal pipe in here, and he’s like no way. A few minutes later he reaches in and feels it: that’s a metal pipe. The only thing that’s weirder is they clearly had work done down there before we moved in, there’s a few pvc unions in that area. So I’m thinking they might have cut in before but maybe the metal pipe hadn’t worked all the way down to the area we were working in at that time? Not sure why else they would have previously cut into the pipes there.
Did you DIY? The shades themselves are dirt cheap and it seems everything is more or less equal, but do you have any advice with the hooks and attachments to the canopy?
I did. I just bought some hook kit on Amazon. The part that took the longest was deciding on the spacing. The hooks can adjust some, but wanted the right tension in the sail.
Mine was relatively easy to reach, but having a second person helps stretch in the other direction. Mine is a triangle sail, so I attached what would be the right angle side first then stretch out the other directions
Looked this post up to give an update. I thought I was breaking ground within a month of this post lol. Well, just north of a year later and we poured the basement walls today. What a ride but hopefully we should be through any major delays at this point.
Made it official over the weekend. Signed contract and gave deposit check. Building our 3rd house now. Hopefully this is the last.
Could not be a GC simply for supply issues. Just went all Karen on Amazon, not to mention what I know my buddy goes through. Also couldn’t be a GC because I’m not even remotely handy but that’s another story.
What are the recommended Washer/dryer brands? Need to replace a dryer sooner rather than later and not too happy with the Samsung one we've had.
I was unfortunately going out of town after that was posted so I have a plumber coming by tomorrow. My home had not sunk into a sinkhole by the time I got back home but I had used about 4 more CCF of water. Will check back in tomorrow
Fan of my LG washer/dryer as well. I didn't know my washer had the feature when I bought it, but it having a reservoir and automatically dispensing detergent is fucking awesome.
Mother fucking squirrels. Backstory: Lying in bed early morning a few weeks ago and I hear scratching in the ceiling by the window. Knew exactly what it was because 20 years ago in a former house I heard the exact same sound for a week behind a wall until the squirrel clawed its way through the drywall and hid behind our refrigerator. An unforgettable sound. I give it a day or so...bang on the ceiling / wall to startle it hoping it would leave. Nope. I start scouting the outside area and see at least two squirrels entering between an apparent hole between the soffit and the roof. I should tell you...this could be an easy fix where I set traps around the point and then seal the entry point after capture. But...the only way I can access this is by using a 20-foot extension ladder at its max height and I'd still be short of the roof. I'm also too old to climb a ladder that high. Shit ain't worth dying for. So I do the next best thing and purchase a varmint airsoft rifle. I'm apparently a terrible shot because despite having them in the exact crosshairs with .177 caliber pellets, my shots are effective only in sending them back into the hole. Additionally, I suspected that if I were to assassinate one or all, my neighbors, though reasonable people, would be horrified. Everyone thinks squirrels are cute until that scratching sound makes you want to fucking kill someone. Even my wife falls into this trap. The passing hurricane only emboldened them and now it's as if they don't even respect me or my marksmanship enough to run into the hole when we make eye contact. What's worse, there now seems to be three baby squirrels in and out of there as well. Don't get me wrong, I think there's a sense of flattery knowing they've chosen my house to nest. My wife and I are pretty accommodating to most and...arguably generous hosts. But at this point, they're just being rude. So rather than drag this drama out any further, I contacted a critter removal service. I feel less than a man but somewhat humanitarian if that makes sense.
If you do get pest control, hopefully they can also make sure to get the babies since it sounds like there's a nest. No judgement though, we had rats in our walls in a house we rented eight years ago and it drove us mad. I did not care what it took to get those fuckers out or killed.
Sometimes I forgot not every place is like Alabama because the mere mention of squirrels in my attic had all the dudes in my neighborhood asking if I needed help killing them. We set up a trap on my roof but were able to shoot our intruder within a few minutes. It is funny how they make eye contact. Now if someone has any advice on keeping the squirrels away from our pumpkins...
