When I got to this part I thought you’d tricked me into reading one of those long cat jokes. Now you have to post a pic of it because I am intrigued.
Call a professional and let them tell you what it needs. Shouldn't cost you anything to a quote and diagnosis.
kinda reminds me of a less racist version of something you’d see in the black lawn jockey episode of curb
Wait, is this a racist thing?! I knew I should never trust anything bought at a farmer’s market in east Texas. Fuck!
Thought I'd give an update. Passed electrical and mechanicl rough in inspections this morning, already had plumbing. For anyone that doesn't remember I did my own HVAC install. It's a pretty complicated system with two AHU's, two ERV's, two dehumidifiers, and all in rigid hard duct. Was quite the undertaking and man am I glad to be through all that. Been grinding 30+ hours at the house every weekend for a couple months now on top of my actual job. We will have framing inspection end of this week, insulation install next weekish, and then onto drywall. We're really moving now. Here's a bunch of photos from last couple months:
Lots of nice pics but I'm real jealous about a real outdoor fireplace. We almost offered a house with one and it's the only thing I really would like to add in
It was a grind. This is my forever home though and I wanted it done right and for it to last 100+ years. I have these crazy dreams of the house being able to stay in the family for multiple generations.
my inlaws did this and built a huge 6000 sqft house in bumfuck kansas when their kids were juniors in high school. now neither kid wants the house. hopefully you have better planning.
my mother built a badass lake house to retire in with hopes of leaving it to my brother and i. we are looking forward to selling it when that day comes.
got to be tough nowadays to pass a house down to your kids and expect them to live in. there’s not a house my family could’ve built that would have kept me in my hometown. sure, it’d be kind of sad selling a house you grew up in but it’d have to go
We were scheduled to have carpet demo and installation this past weekend in anticipation of moving our office this Thursday. Monday I go check progress and nobody is there, no carpet is being installed. Frantically text the contractor and he says carpet was ordered last week it'll be here this week. Motherfucker took a week to order carpets he knew we needed quickly, then changed the installation schedule by a week and didn't think to tell us.
Yea I don't know if my parents ever had dreams of us living there, but it was kind of sad selling that house that they built when I was in pre-k My sister wanted to live there(actually was when dad died) and me still own half the house and split taxes, maintenance, etc. Yao faced the shit outta that, told her she could either buy my half (she couldn't) or we sell. Litterally haven't talked to her since the day she got her check and wanted to see mine to make sure it was the same $ amount.
I'm pretty fortunate to be in the position I'm in. We are 5 acres that literally backs up to city limits. So your 15 minutes to downtown and basically anywhere else you want to go around here. My oldest is 7 so who the fuck knows what the future holds for them, worst case scenario they can sell the place and get a nice payday, I'll be in the ground out back, I don't think I'll care much at that point.
Yep. In-laws have 5000 acres and no one wants a part of that fuckin mess. When the impending collapse of democracy comes though we will all be on that fuckin farm livin like the Oregon Trail.
I had to pester my floor sales guy to get updates and make sure my install was scheduled. I called the manager and said I don’t want to deal with him anymore, give me somebody else. I shouldn’t be the one reaching out for all these details. They probably didn’t give a shit about my small ass project.
Our regular contractor is semi-retired so he did the wall demo, electrical, and drywall patching but left the painting and carpeting up to us. I did the painting and used the carpeting contractor that the office building management company recommended. For us, it's the boss who is the problem. Still can't get any fucking answers from him this morning. I guess paying $11/sqft isn't enough for him to take us seriously
I've lived in the same place for 18 months and haven't even contacted my agent once in that time. fools, the lot of you
Maybe you’ll live a nice long life and your kid will be in his 60s and you can leave it directly to your grandkids
After a few days of evasive texts I finally got a straight answer from contractor this morning that carpets wouldn't be installed in time. So I let loose via text and he calls me immediately. I tear him a new one and now he's promising to throw bodies at the job at 5am tomorrow morning to get the job done before the movers get there FWIW wife's parents have 5 flat acres in the Santa Cruz mountains with a sprawling ranch house. We all want it to stay in the family long-term but the only inheritor who actually wants to live on the property couldn't afford to
When was it built? maybe I’m crazy but I think the historic nature of the house even prior to your family’s occupancy might play a part into whether the location is appealing cross generationally
When they bought the property in 1970 it was a small 2/1 that they added on to in stages over the next 25 years. BIL lives on the property in an ADU and would love to stay but the value of the parcel is greater than his inheritance share. We love the place but for the remoteness- it's five miles up a road that over the years has become a busy alternate route to the freeway between Santa Cruz County coastal areas and the South Bay, and we're done with daily commutes. We've communicated with BIL that we want to keep property in joint custody of some sort and maybe the next generation (who grew up going to see Nana and Grandpa there) will want to use it somehow
After slaving away for several days, we got photos done yesterday. House is going on the market on Wednesday probably. We have put a lot of work/upgrades into the house (including converting a pole shop into a proper gym and office). Still feels crazy listing it for 25% more than what we paid 4 years ago.
Mentioned earlier itt that I was having some imbalanced heat in one room that I was hoping to resolve by adjusting the damper. Turns out that my adjustment wasn't taking because the lever was bending around the wingnut instead of opening/closing. Ordered an anemometer to be able to tell if airflow is in fact being adjusted when I use the damper. Is there anything I can do at the damper itself to see that it's moving with the lever? This seems like an incredibly stupid system Eta fixed!
A lot of snow plus really cold temps and clogged gutters equal a lot of icicles and water not draining properly. Very annoyed since I just cleaned my gutters in November!
Well, we listed our house on Thursday because our agent said we might sit for 3-4 months and we're trying to get our house sold soon enough that we can move to a different city and get our kids situated for next school year. We just accepted a cash offer for 98% of the asking price 36 hours later.
