Looking in central Austin. Moving from a low cost of living area to a high cost of living area is a real bitch.
The last week or so my furnace has not been able to keep my house warm with the cold weather kansas has been getting. It’s been between -10 to 10 degrees for about the last week and the furnace was barely keeping the house at 60 when it was set for 68. Even today with a high of 60 outside the house is at 62. Figuring I know a little bit about controls but nothing about HVAC, I’ll give it a look. Over the last week I found that toggling the furnace breaker seemed to help heat the house up a bit more, but what I suspect is that I was just resetting a time lockout on the control board. I took the cover off the furnace control board and heat exchanger panel, jerryrigged the door safety switch, and turned the thing on. Ran really well for like 20 minutes and brought the house up a couple degrees. This isn’t really a safe or smart mode to operate the furnace in but it makes me think there’s an airflow problem and maybe the exchanger is overheating. The air filter the HVAC guy put in while doing seasonal maintenance looks to be some junky thing so I put in one of my fancy Home Depot brand ones. Furnace still only running for 5ish minutes at a time before cycling down for a minute or two and the air is not particularly warm. My furnace intake/exhaust is like 15’ in the air and I’m at the limit of my comfort of goofing with things, so I’m probably gonna have to shell out some cash.
My hvac guy said the same thing but just trying out different things. I’d been using those Home Depot filters with little issues for a year or two. I could try running it with no filter next.
Ours was doing this recently. Ended up being a pressure switch that was worn out (18 years old) so it was cutting the flame off as a safety measure. That or the limiters would be my first guess if it’s gas furnace
Slab poured and concrete blocks up on the new house. Now we just need someone to buy ours so we can check that box.
Pretty much done, just gotta cough up the money on the mini split and install it, but that should be pretty easy all things considered. All my Christmas stuff is stored under the bench. I still think the drywall imperfections are way more exaggerated by the camera but it’s definitely not perfect and was a good learning experience. Spoiler Spoiler
After some more goofing, I think the issue is with the air flow with the heat exchanger. Don’t think I can fix it myself.
This seems like something I would quit using as I get older And by older I mean now that my knees hurt sometimes on steps and not having a handrail at the top would cause me pause
It’s only a matter of time before the most bougie of this board start installing elevators in their homes
I don’t even know what this room is for. Access through the garage. I have a bigger, better TV in my basement that I play Xbox on. I suppose my 10 year old will hang out up here more as she gets older but who knows. The bench is 42” deep and I’m going to buy some type of folding mattresses and it will be able to sleep 2 people in a pinch.
High school me would love that room. Married me would also love that room and I’d do whatever was necessary to make sure my wife didn’t know it existed
I always dreamed of having a room like that. Kind of reminds me of the above the garage room in growing pains
Nug this is what it’s like to troubleshoot things and not just immediately give up and beg for help on a message board. Figured I would document it. And I did try google to find the user manual for my furnace control board but nothing came up sadly.
All I'm hearing is a bunch of excuses about how the purported patriarch can't keep his family warm and they may not survive the winter. Should've used Bing
Lived in a house with one for a while. Was great. I want one of those chairs that move up the stairs instead
Listed our house today. Already had a showing tonight, but doesn’t seem like they were too interested. Having open houses Saturday/Sunday, hoping to get an offer by the end of the weekend.
Edison had a scheduled outage for maintenance that was supposed to run from 10:00 last night to 5:00 am this morning. Looks like it's going to last longer than projected. Got the genny running, plugged in the fridge while making coffee, and now relaxing on the couch like a typical Sunday morning with laptop and TV.
Is this potentially a forever home for you? If so, there are some fairly simple things you can do that have huge benefits. Like the plumbing vent in your drawing. Have no idea how accurate your drawing is for mechanicals but in that scenario a little planning and thought you could move it to that side wall under the overhang. Pretty simple thing but it eliminates a roof penetration which means you eliminated a potential weak point for a roof leak in the future.
You almost sound like someone who works for a heating and cooling company. I only know how to change a filter, after that I’m calling someone.
