So need some thoughts. Ceilings in the basement are definitely not 8 feet, 7.5 tops was just down there tonight moving shit around as it's basically Unfinished storage space. We want to eventually finish the basement but with the lower ceiling, pipes, ductwork, etc. I feel like it's going to make it feel extremely small. Are there alternatives that don't look shitty to leaving the ceiling open? Has anyone spray painted everything? That's one option I read but worried it might look tacky/terrible.
I don't believe they've mentioned price point or even a release date as this was just unveiled at CES in Vegas, but safe to say the price will be equivalent to a small car. Like all new tv innovations though the price will come down dramatically in a short amount of time. Safe to say 4K OLED is where things are headed. We still have a ways to go on programming quality catching up to TV quality however.
To any audio-philes I have a scenario with a question, Will have a new construction project where I'd like to have 7.1 set up including for living room(5 speakers), and kitchen area(2 speakers that would not be just surround sound effect, but more full speakers for kitchen area alone)that is joined via open floor plan. Also 2 speakers for covered deck that would be a zone b. Do the 9.1 receivers offer a two speaker zone B or is it all tied for 9 speakers in 1 room? Thanks
haven't looked at audio solutions in a long time, but most 7.1 and up receivers are offering an independent Zone B, to the best of my knowledge. I looked into it for pool deck speakers a while back, and this seemed to be what was out there.
Just about any 9.1 is going to be a 9.2 these days and it will almost always have zone 2 With 7.x systems you would have to be careful but not 9
There are 9.1 receivers with 3 zones For example: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/ephox/StaticFiles/PUSA/Files/SC-57_Single Sheet.pdf https://www.lifewire.com/home-theater-receivers-and-the-multi-zone-feature-1846247
These are the ones I put in my house. Got tamper resistant for my niece http://m.homedepot.com/p/Leviton-15...-Outlet-White-10-Pack-M22-T5320-WMP/100684043
So you basically just stick the wire in the back of the outlets and tighten the screw? I've replaced some switches before and had to wrap the wire around the screw and then tighten it down? Does that make sense?
these are what i am using note that plate behind the screw head is like a washer you only need like 1/4 inch wire stripped and you just slide it under that plate and tighten the screw its much easier than making little hooks around every screw and much more durable than the stab in the hole in the back of the outlets
Thanks. So a zone 2 and/or 3 offers full sound correct? It wouldn't be just like a surround sound speaker where it only plays the back right or front center audio correct? Hope I'm asking this right.
BTW, while on the topic of home audio, has anyone else started using some of the Chrome Cast Audio Dongles? I have one hooked up to my back patio, my garage stereo, and will be putting on in my upstairs and downstairs. It allows me to group them and play music to all the devices at once or individually. For $35 bucks it aint bad. I was even thinking of putting a small speaker in my bathroom to use with one while getting ready in the morning.
Hadn't heard of this. HDMI connectivity I assume or something else? My old AV receiver got hit with lightning, which fried some functionally but it still works as an amp. Wondering if I could use this to drive speakers in a separate/standalone zone, as played by current receiver.
Yep this would work perfectly. Unfortunately and advatageously it doesn't use hdmi. It uses a headphone plug. I ordered 3 or 4 headphone to rca converters to connect them to aux inputs on various receivers. If the amp can pass through an audio signal then you should be good.
USB or a standard outlet. I think mine it plugged into the wall adapater on the two I have. I found out about it through an article claiming it was the poor mans Sonos system. But it's great to sit on the back patio and stream what ever I want. The restriction is on the iPhone you can't stream your library that I can tell. But if you use the chrome cast extension in Chrome you can push anything which is in a browser to the group of speakers. I am waiting for the time where you can group the Chromecast dongles to it as well. Supposedly that is in development.
HDMI board is primary thing the lightning fried so that is ideal. Assumed I would have to convert around hdmi somehow so this is a cheaper route. Very cool.
have you tried this? just found it while googling about these little things https://support.google.com/chromecast/answer/6328691?hl=en
Alright, fam, need some input. Wife and I were gifted some cash for Christmas and are torn between getting new windows for the house or using it on the front yard. Our windows are old, leaky and the wood on the window sill is rotted. They need replacing. But they're also expensive as fuck. We've put a lot of effort into the yard and using our Christmas money on that would get it to the point where the yard is "done."
Yes that is how I have the Chromecast Audio devices setup right now. I just think the limitation is the Chromecast (video) are a different type and cant be added to a group yet. I just tried and it wouldn't let me add it.
Find a contractor local with good ratings. I priced the windows out for my house. From a window company it was like 11,000. From Home Depot, the standard ones without labor was somewhere around 3k, You can find a local contractor who will install windows you buy, and it will save you a ton.
Converted an extra closet into a pantry. I'll never hang doors myself again. Shelves are also too expensive so I made my own. Put tube lighting behind the frame because I didn't want to do electrical work to install a light. French doors were the wife's idea but I like them. Sorry if the pics are huge - uploaded straight from phone on here for the first time. Spoiler Bonus pic of the deck in the process of staining. I really wish I had taken a picture before pressure washing. It was black. Spoiler
I know we have some insurance folks itt, trying to figure out if I have anything to worry about regarding whether or not this is covered since the adjuster doesn't seem to know. Last week we're doing dishes, and I go into the basement and notice some water coming up from the floor. We've never had water there before, so we call a plumber and they tell us the pipe is broken and the water is coming from the pipe. Adjuster comes out and says ground water isn't covered but water from a broken pipe is, and isn't sure whether we're covered b/c the water is coming through the foundation and not from a drain. I looked in our policy and it states the following is covered: 12. Sudden and accidental discharge or overflow of water or steam from within a plumbing, heating, air conditioning or automatic fire protective sprinkler system, or from within a household appliance. This peril does not include loss: a. to the system or appliance from which the water or steam escaped; b. caused by or resulting from freezing; c. caused by or resulting from water or sewage from outside the residence premises plumbing system that enters through sewers or drains, or water which enters into and overflows from within a sump pump, sump pump well or any other system designed to remove subsurface water which is drained from the foundation area; or d. caused by or resulting from continuous or repeated seepage or leakage of water or steam which occurs over a period of time and results in deterioration, corrosion, rust, or wet or dry rot. I'm wondering what the guy is questioning here considering if it were ground water it would also leak when we get a lot of rain or snow melt (it's been raining the past 2 days and we have nothing) Plumber put this on his report: Upon inspection found kitchen drain line broken below slab in basement. Waste water pushing up through concrete when kitchen drain is used. So I think we should be fine, but figured i'd ask.
Looks great. I could never do glass front on any pantry/cabinet/storage as my wife's idea of storage is to cram everything in until it is about to burst out. Not a good look with a glass front...
You could always go with frosted glass (or that contact paper that mimics frosted glass), which adds some visual interest yet obscures any possible mess.
I told her we had to get baskets or containers because no one wants to walk by and see our boxes of pop tarts and cereal. Of course that ended up doubling the cost because the containers had to be from Pottery Barn/Crate & Barrell. But I got to buy a miter saw so
Have a master bathroom remodel coming up. Contractor coming next week to start designing. Pray for me...And my wallet.
