Seeing the listing and how good it shows in photos and how much interest people have is a big feeling of satisfaction tbh
Made me want to look at what comps are for my house, exact same house with a smaller lot, smaller pool, sold for $265K two weeks ago. We bought ours for $168K only 28 months ago. After the pool and various other repairs we made after moving in, we've probably got $215K in it.
Raleigh, NC is crazy right now. Really glad I'm not searching for a house. Friend just sold her townhouse in 19 hours for $20,000 more than she bought it for just 1 year ago.
When I did mine the guy at Home Depot asked me a couple questions. 1. Do you drink beer? 2. Do you have a space to spread the stuff out? 3. Can you use various tools? If you answered yes to these questions you can do it. It took me a few hours but it wasnt too hard. Just took some time to take the old one down and put new one up. I bought the best one and it wasn't too bad. I think I paid $250. The best part is I can tell if it is open from the app that comes with it. That way I don't drive home frantically worried I forgot to close it.
Furnace Motor got replaced and furnace is running as smooth as ever...Much quieter Anyone have any security cam recs? Looking at maybe getting one for the front porch I quickly glanced at the ring cam (not the doorbell). Anyone have that one?
Yep, it wasn't really hard. The biggest pain in the ass was the bracket that goes over the door. I had to screw it to the wall into a stud while working around the spring on the door. It just meant a lot of quarter turns of the wrench due to the space limitations. Other than that it was a breeze. Even helped a buddy install one at his house a couple weeks later. It was one of those whisper quiet ones. Its super quiet. If I walk in from the garage shut the door behind me and step into the kitchen and use the app to open the garage door, I can't hear it moving. Also I have it integrated with my SmartThings Hub. I did it as when I leave, my hub detects my phone is gone and checks all the doors to make sure they are locked, and shuts the garage door just in case I forgot. Works great. Get a six pack of beer and a free Saturday afternoon and you can knock it out.
Any use Lowes for their kitchen? We had our builders kitchen guy do a quote and his upgrades seem ridiculously priced. Went to Lowes because we were told their granite prices are tough to beat. Had them do an estimate for the entire kitchen and it came in around the same price but they just offered 20% off cabinets. That puts us about $2k under the original estimate but it includes a couple of the upgrades. Edit: Builders cabinet guy is using StarMark...Lowes is Schuler.
Don't be afraid to get a price from a custom cabinet shop. The one we used ended up being right in line with the big box stores once you added in the extras we wanted like soft close drawers/doors, glass inserts in the uppers, crown, installation. We added a few more things that they customized and designed for us like a bookshelf style endcap and an angled 45 degree pantry where there was previously just unused space. Plus my wife got to choose exactly where she wanted the shelves and things inside the cabinets like a custom spot for her kitchen aid, spice racks and whatever else she picked out.
If any of you were thinking about picking up a Sonos sound system for the house, tap the breaks. They recently had a bunch of layoffs and the CEO stepped down: http://www.digitalmusicnews.com/2017/01/11/sonos-ceo-steps-down-amazon-alexa/ Sounds like Amazon is stepping on everyone's throat these days. Ironically the lack of initiative in getting compatability with Alexa is what has dramatically set them back. They are working on integrating their product with the Echo/Dot and reportedly will have that available within a couple of months. I have a Sound bar and a sub in my living room and it is only a fraction below in quality from the high-end, fancy system in my theater room at only a fraction of the cost. I love my Sonos system but waiting on the Alexa compatibility has sucked. Hopefully it will be here this Spring as promised. Everything I've read says its their #1 priority right now, but if you haven't bought a sound system and were considering Sonos, I'd wait until they deliver.
I think this is probably a good thing overall for Sonos as the CEO had direction issues although what google is doing with the chrome dongle is probably the better option. At the same time, I'm still very happy with my sonos system , especially the sonos amps as I have in ceiling speakers throughout the house and 5 sonos amps in the butlers pantry where everything is hidden.
I'm too lazy to type out specifics but here is a copy and paste of my theater room setup from a post last year: Spoiler Screen - SeymourAV custom made Grey - EH102.6MB - Precision Frame - 16:9 Ratio $1,063.00 8900 Seatcraft Senoma row of 3 Black $ 2,015.41 x 2 $ 4,030.82 ProjectorEpson3000 $ 1,213.00 Displate minimal movie poster (Reservoir Dogs, Top Gun, Predator) $ 31.00 x 3 $ 93.00 Light Control LutronCaseta Lighting Kit $ 179.95 Banana Plugs Sewell Direct $ 27.95 Banana Plugs Proj CableMonopriceLuxe 25' $ 29.95 Projector HDMI Proj MountChief RPAU $ 139.94 Mount Proj Mount ChiefTop Plate $ 13.95 Plate to ceiling Proj MountOmnimount NPT 12 $ 26.44 pole Speaker FLSonance VP62LCR $ 325.00 Speaker FRSonance VP62LCR $ 325.00 Speaker FCSonance VP62LCR $ 325.00 Speaker RLSonance VP62R $ 198.00 Speaker RRSonance VP62R $ 198.00 Sub WooferKlipsch10SW $ 349.99 Receiver YamahaRXA750 $ 649.99 Remote ControlHarmonyElite $ 349.99 Proj Cable Audioquest 25' HDMI $ 199.00 Power CenterPanamax MR4000 $ 199.99 Power CenterPanamax MD2 $ 39.95 x 2 $ 79.90 IR RepeaterSonance CB1 $ 35.00 IR RepeaterSonance PS1 $ 12.00 Etheral 25' Cat6 Wire $ 10.00 IR for project Altex 2.5mm to 3.5mm $ 3.00 IR for project Altex Cat6 25' $ 65.00 Don't get me wrong I love my theater room and the sound in there absolutely incredible but my sonos sound bar and sub in the living room isn't far off in quality. Sure I miss the rare helicopter in a movie coming over and from behind my left shoulder but it's an impressive sytem for a much cheaper system. I'd respectfully, strongly disagree. If you've got Alexa and Sonos throughout the house at any moment you can utter the name of a song and have it playing with great quality anywhere in the house. No need to login to phones, computers, apps, look shit up. I wasn't much of an Alexa fan originally but something changed midway through 2016. They've really come a long ways in a short amount of time unifying everything in the house. And that is what Alexa is for Sonos. Makes the tie-in seamless.
My Sonos Soundbar and Sub system in my living room sounds pretty amazing. I added two Play 1's as surrounds and now I would put it up against most systems out there and anything that sounds better probably cost 3-4 times as much. While it's not the completely "natural" sound that some audiophiles prefer Sonos really does sound great and I have a pretty good ear. My question is what happens to all these Sonos speakers if the company goes under? Personally I don't think they are going under as currently there is no equivalent in the marketplace to Sonos and nothing I read in that article tells me one is coming any time soon. But if they do due to mismanagement or something else I assume that means they stop supporting the systems and over time they just wither on the vine? Cawgs or Gie!
Someone would buy them in bankruptcy and continue supporting it. Sonos is an extremely unique, useful platform with a large installed base of wealthy customers.
while i agree the high end quality combined with the connectivity has been unique, things like the google dongle are gunna quickly make the uniqueness dissapear when you can now choose any brand of speaker and amp and just plug a $35 dongle into it and do more than Sonos offers combine that with dragging their feet to connect with echo or google home products, and you have the making of a bankruptcy
I agree with this. The brand still has value. The likely scenario is they get bought out and Amazon believe it or not would be a potential buyer.
But the installed base is legit. I've got it in 6 rooms. It would take a lot for me to consider switching platforms.
For $2k, I can easily set up my living room and bedroom with sonos and easily get high enough quality and instant connectivity. Am I willing to put an amp in my bedroom? No. Dining room? No. Bathroom? No. The ease of use of Sonos is ridiculously good. My biggest issue with connected home devices is compatibility and Sonos just works.
Any of my DFW folks know of a good pool company, I either have a leaky underground pipe or I have a crack in the bottom that is leaking water. I'm looking to refinish the inside of it anyway so figure it would be a good time to do it.
Outside tap around 90, has a pressure regulator, yeah. Where I live is not that far from the water treatment plant in Atlanta so has stronger than normal water pressure to begin with, supposedly
Weather report just said storm coming through my area has 60 mph winds and baseball-sized hail. I'm sitting by my windows with tarps and nails ready for the rapture. Luckily I received highly specialized training preparing for storms...
Anyone super passionate/opinionated on structured wiring - specifically for a new build? I've got them making runs (RG6 and Cat6) to every room and prewiring for sound in the living room since I have Sonos equipment (really more for the next guy since it's so cheap), but I can't feel like I'm missing something. Am I?
I hadn't planned on it. The advantages seem obvious but what is the tipping point (size, layout, etc) where it becomes valuable and/or necessary?
Ideally if you could get the primary outlet for cable to be in a central'ish room in the home, could be fine with one really good wifi router, but could depend on where deadspots are in the home(i.e. multiple floors, etc.)
The modem/router are going to be almost dead center on the first floor of a two story house so I'm hopeful I can avoid my current situation of having awful connectivity at one side of the house because the modem/router are on the other side of a long ranch.
