so, I'm a few months out for all of this but wondering if there's a consensus on the best brands of (and places to buy) appliances
Turned out pretty well, I hope. I got home from an out of town trip and there was a small amount of water under the awning close to the house which is unusual. Maybe the wind blew it in but I doubt it. Toughest part was what to do with the down spout seeing as how everything was over my deck. To the left, in the picture below, is downhill so it would make sense to go there but I'd have to cut through the shed under my deck so I went towards the right and then under and out the deck. Next I want to put screws in the top deck boards because obviously nails were a horrible idea then I will re-stain the top of the deck that got beat up by no gutter. Then some patio furniture and a mounted tv and should be ready for summer.
Lechnerd, my first thought when I saw the downspout going underneath was that you were killing everything underneath so nothing will be there if you get locked in again.
I got my TV setup through Alexa. I was waiting on Sony to get with the program and become compatible with Alexa but I found a work around... Plex is now Alexa compatible so I can watch movies without a remote: https://www.plex.tv/alexa/ Additioanlly via my Logitech Harmony remote I can turn on/off the tv, change channels, increase/decrease volume. https://support.myharmony.com/en-us/harmony-experience-with-amazon-alexa The only thing I can't access by voice right now is my DVR. Also the pause/play of live TV is glitchy. I'd be curious to know if anyone else has their TV up and running through Alexa or has found a better way?
I set mine up but I only use the "turn on tv" or "turn off Tv". Haven't seen a benefit to using it for anything else.
What do you want to accomplish? If you just want to be able to turn your tv on/off with your voice there are many different ways. Even an Xbox can do this. You don't need Alexa. If you want to be able to control nearly every aspect of your tv including your cable and playing your movies with only your voice the plex/Logitech/Alexa setup I outlined earlier is the best I've uncovered yet. But I'd like to hear from anyone that has found a better way.
Wil sticks/twigs ruin a lawn mower, if I get routine maintenance, blade sharpening, done to it every season? Picking that shit shit up takes as long, maybe longer, as mowing it does, but don't want to ruin a $750 mower.
Here's the new house in KC. 3/2 built in 1947, walking distance to downtown Mission area with a lot of shops and such. Really happy with it considering we were on a time crunch and had to buy in one weekend. Will be good for a five year house and then sell or turn it into a rental. Guy flipped it and did a nice job. Some fixtures aren't our style so I'm gonna be changing a few things, but overall pretty move in ready. Didn't think it'd be great because the pics they used are so shitty, but when we saw it in person we loved it. Certainly going to be a lot less work than the Texas place anyway.
Damn nice house. I love older houses that have been flipped with a classy look like that. My house was built in 1926 and was last updated in the 70's and am in the process of updating it.
KC is filthy with 20s-50s houses, a lot of which are being flipped. This guy had two others on the same street he was selling. Cool that those older neighborhoods are being maintained and updated.
Welp...selling my first house and trying to relocate quickly...this should be fun. Not worried about selling my home (renovated) but the relocation should be interesting. The area we are moving to has a ton of new construction projects but not sure the headache of dealing with the new construction especially since I'd rather not move my furniture into a temporary place only to move again right after (I have a newborn so less logistics the better). Not to mention any timing delays or issues. But man the new houses look so nice.
relocating. job and family reasons. my new job is just in the middle of a massive, new, and up and coming neighborhood project. Lake Nona in Orlando.
this one looks good http://philkeanrealestate.com/property/9086-mayfair-pointe-drive-orlando-fl-32827
Is there an all in one remote that can handle xbox? I can't seem to find one online. I also have apple tv, but that can go on a different TV if needs be. Guys are forming the concrete forms to lay the foundation out back for the foundation today! Progress.
Logitech Harmony Elite: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B014...mony+elite&dpPl=1&dpID=41lhw-o82DL&ref=plSrch I'm very anti-hubs but this remote is one of the few exceptions. I can control everything with it and since it is Alexa compatible you can do it all with your voice alone.
Because it's a lawn mower. Not twigs n crap you're too lazy to pick up mower. Except mulching mowers.
I've been looking at their remotes recently since my Logitech Harmony One(discontinued) remote has a fucked up screen. The lack of number keys on their new remotes is a huge turnoff, imo
I have one of the Harmony 650s and I love it. Easy to program and easy to hold and use. Way better than my Ultimate I have.
I have one of those as well. It's nice being able to pickup your remote and use it without looking at it because you can feel around and know where everything is.
Punching in numbers to change channels is unnecessary with the LHE. You can program all your favorite channels into the screen and then switch between channels by tapping the respective icon: And again if you have Alexa, you simply talk. Never again need to ask where the remote is.
I have the elite. It's nice to not have to explain the power on/power off process to my wife once a week
Today marks one year of my new home purchase. Do I buy a whole-home warranty? I am not a handy-man at all, so I am leaning towards it. Anyone with experience?
If you call to get a quote they won't stop calling you for at least a decade. They annoyed me so much that I didn't buy one
It has already begun. The builder gave me one through 2-10 HBW, might just re-up through them to get it over with.
I have one this year since I'm renting my house out and I fucking hate them. Just the entire business model of trying to bandaid everything or find a loophole in a contract to not pay for something can be very frustrating.
Has anyone put a turf putting green in their yard before? http://www.synlawngolf.com/do-it-yourself-putting-greens/ Doesn't have to be this exact style, that's just one I found online.
Well I gutted almost my entire master bathroom. And we're planning to move in April/May. I've already gotten a ton of stuff done on it. Redoing it with subway tile and gray wood plank ceramic tile. Had to frame the bathroom and repair a lot of rotted wood from previous shower leaks before we bought the house. I'll have all the hardibacker laid for the floors tomorrow, then I've gotta pitch the shower floor, hang wonderboard and we're gonna be off. Will update with photos.
Some rotting wood I found when I removed the shower. Also, had to remove an entire sheet of plywood and replace it. Spoiler Framed a shower bench and area for glass enclosures above. Sort of a funny fit with the windows, but I tossed and turned over different layouts and this one made the most sense considering I wasn't willing to also purchase a new tub. Gotta finish cutting away drywall for where I'll tile the walls. Spoiler
I never posted in here, but this is how my previous bathroom remodel went below. I tiled two walls and the floors. Ripped the top off of an old piece of furniture and built the butcher block top and painted. Turned out decently. I'm just ready to sell this house. Spoiler
Nicely done sir. Big tile are a pain in the ass. You mentioned pitching the shower floor in an earlier post. Any experience with the Schluter Kerdi base and membrane system? Worth a look if time is short, way faster than a traditional mud pan, if your shape is anything like regular.
