I know everyone is all anti hubs around here, but I love my smartthings hub. It integrates with Alexa and I am using the boring old standard Cree bulbs with mine. The only problem is you don't get the range of colors the ones Shock uses. But for me, I don't care about colors, and these run about $8 bucks at Home Depot. LED with dimming through the ST hub. I love em and have them all automated so they come on when it gets dark or when I unlock the front door or open the garage.
But for real just research different brick types to see what you like.I believe lechnerd spent more on his tile as he got something like an acme/Chicago brick. I got the type lowes sells and they were pretty great. Looked nice. Minimal breaks on the box. Packaging was top notch as is hanging them. Basically the bricks are connected by mesh. I think there’s something like three rows with 15 bricks in a sheet. It’s extremely fast to tile. Manufacturer says you can attach to normal drywal. I don’t buy it, these bricks are heavy af. I’d recommend applying it to hardibacker. I used a versabond thinset from HD. Let me know if you need any help.
Obviously the first step is you have to pick your brick. What you want is a thin brick, you can choose individual or in sheets. I went with antique Chicago from Acme, its reclaimed, has a lot of character. Next is how you will attach it to your wall. I definitely would not hang it straight on the drywall. Best I can tell from my research, there are two options: hardibacker (which I did) and metal lath (https://www.lowes.com/pd/Common-27-...gW_mGORQrs9lb-LLUDZKBZyzCWpVItNhoCldkQAvD_BwE). I think they both would work equally well so I'd price it out and then factor in convenience. Like Louis mentioned you want to use a thin set to attach the brick to the hardibacker or lath. I used this thinset: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Custom-...Maximum-Strength-Tile-Adhesive-OGA1/100284548 Make sure yours is suitable for brick/stone. Start placing the bricks, bottom first, use spacers. Then choose a mortar suitable for however big your spacing is, fill in with a mortar bag. Scrub with stiff brush and thats it. Good luck. Post pics.
Don't you wanna sit down and yell at your bulbs to shut off???? Or pick up your phone, find the app, turn the lights on/off or change colors rofl. Or you could just stand up and flip the fucking switch.
lechnerd taking a ton of abuse itt. It’s the home maintenance thread, not the interior decorating and bitching about shit you can’t afford so you say how dumb it is thread.
And the bulbs are great. I would never spend that much or need 40-50 bulbs. Grab a few. Throw one in the living room, kitchen, bedroom etc. it’s really nice when you get home and have shit in your hands. “Hey lexus, I mean Alexa, turn on the fucking lights”
The integration with dominoes is the selling point for me so I just bought 60 of the regular ones and 20 of the minis. I don't have 20 lamps so I just had to buy 18 of those too

It's upgraded, but 3 years old or so. I'm holding out for the mesh networks to improve since right now a good router = an uglier router = an annoyed wife.
Alright. Back to house shit...I upgraded to the Ring doorbell Pro. Pretty, prettay nice. I’ve got it hooked up with my Amazon Show so I can see who is at the door without getting up. They’ve also got a pretty detailed motion sensor so it can alert you if a dog is peeing on your lawn but leave you alone if one is on your sidewalk. The picture quality is 1080p so big jump from from previous versions. Has great picture at night with and without lights. One thing I wish it had was capability to speak through your doorbell via the Amazon Show, apparently they are working on it. Right now I can only speak through my phone. Another drawback is that they don’t have doorbells for sidemounts, you have to purchase a wedge. It was easy to install, but it’d be nice if came all together. Next thing I’d like to get is an August door lock so I can take the process one step further and unlock the door/tell people to come in by voice alone but online reviews haven’t sold me yet. Probably needs another year or so.
People I trust about things like this say that the locks you lock and unlock remotely are shit and you're just asking for trouble. But I do love my electronic keypad locks
I can see his ass buying a robot to roll into the rooms and see his patients by proxy.... “Make sure you add exercise into your daily routine, Ms. Smith”
You realize the August smart lock is only on the inside right? Your regular lock remains on the outside.
Well and also the margin of error for how the door closes is extremely small. A centimeter one way or the other and it's not gonna work
If someone wants to break in to your home the difference between a hackable electronic lock and regular deadbolt isn’t gonna matter. The rest of your security setup would though (or lack there of)
The fuck is Amazon Show? August Door Lock? I wouldn't want a smart lock. Give me an old fashioned bump pick free deadbolt.
Having hardiplank installed starting Thursday. Having new windows replaced starting Friday. Louis is now poor.
Have the connect, haven’t had any problems. Only issue I had was when I sent an invite to my friend to be able to use it he activation email kept timing.
