Part of his plan. He's giving Jon Oliver a chance to prove himself while remaining on the payroll. We are all being played
Came here to post this. We're clearly getting a new AD. I'm guessing this is just how they're handling the search/succession process. Agree it's weird though. If Oliver is promoted I'll quit UVA sports srs
It's sad to see a few programs at UVAs level go big with their AD hires (Tech, Colorado, Minnesota, for example) and the admin at UVA is either completely blind to what's going on or more than happy to continue along the road of incompetence. But tell us all about the country club sports that are winning championships... baseball and basketball are winning in spite of CL/JO not because of them.
I never realized how big the AD hire can be until we hired Babcock. That guy is amazing and has made coaching hires that have made every team better.
always heard that Bennett was completely Oliver's doing - as his main example of doing something positive. any insight to JO's hindrance towards basketball?
I have no idea who our candidates would even be, or what level of hire we could make. Like could we poach Colorado or Minnesota? Not exactly sure who is killing it as AD these days and it's so much more complex than hiring a coach
Minnesota AD has been there less than a year. Spent a year prior to that at Syracuse. Doubt he would jump ship after what they're doing with facilities, Fleck, etc Colorado AD was a former asst under McCarthy but was the COO of the Texas Rangers before CU. From IL but his entire extended family lives in Boulder. Not going anywhere I think the answer to your question is that you really need to see who is out there thru a thorough, national search. UVA is a coveted place to be at. The process is very nuanced and not to be rushed like coaching hires. I don't trust the admin at UVA to prioritize the hire at all and with what Littlepage is doing I think the writing is on the wall. Paul Tutor Jones is firmly in JO's corner unfortunately and he's the only whale donor UVA has that gives a shit about athletics anymore (correct me if I'm wrong JPWahoo )
I mean Jones is the biggest for sure - but I know there are others throwing around some big number ideas. I have zero idea who thinks what about Oliver though
Suggestions from the Sabre for AD: Wood Selig (ODU) Derek Dooley (lol) Ray Tanner (SCar) Jim Phillips (Northwestern) Boo Corrigan (Army) Chris Hill (Utah) Tom Jurich (Louisville) Clone Stanford AD/Associate AD at Stanford It's gonna be Oliver and we're all fucked (Majority opinion)
"But the most eye-opening reaction might have come from another coach — name undisclosed — after Guy called to thank him for his recruitment. “Told him there’s no way he’d be able to play defense at Virginia,” Tim said." Guy's offer sheet: UVA Butler Cal Indiana Indiana State Iowa Iowa State Ole Miss Mizzou NCSU Northwestern Purdue Xavier. My money is on Gott or Crean.
Did that white dude we were recruiting for Kansas ever amount to shit? Mikalavalikyfisnw was his name I believe.
And how in the fuck did we lose to PItt? I know they were smoking threes, but shit it seems like they're getting beat by 30+ everytime I see one of their scores.
I'm in the minority but I like Shayok. He's still suspect on D at times but has the length to make up for it. But he's been solid for us on offense both with jumpers and getting to the basket. He's like a poor man's Justin Anderson. Needs to quit the long 2s (though it seems like he always knocks them down)
Our home boards are miserable after we pick up a good win and it's not shoved in everyone's faces. No one can be happy with a win, they're intent on making sure the entire country knows how good we are. THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA IGNORES US! SAD!
Watching VT - UNC and realized that if you believed JO, we'd have Kenny Williams, Seth Allen and Devonte Graham this year. Pretty sure we got the whistle on every single one of those.
Is our women's team worth a shit this year? Just saw they beat tech by like 50. That's pretty fucking unreal.
Allen's skill set would have been awesome and something we hadn't seen before. But I agree about the cultural fit
Clark would've been really good too, not sure why Tony quit recruiting him. Maybe there were concerns about his shot? Can't remember all that well.
I'll definitely being following UVA the next few years. He's an elite athlete. Really curious to see what he can do when given more snaps and the green light to actually throw the ball.
we'll have him second guessing himself and running into the back of offensive lineman on qb draws in no time.
I feel like our basketball fans have gotten so whiny. I have to get off twitter after games to avoid seeing certain twitter fanboys make themselves look like idiots by engaging national writers on twitter with homer arguments. Yes, the foul disparity was absurd. But it seems like some people truly believe there is some sort of anti-UVA conspiracy.
Atleast this time he says he doesn't have any names to give a backstory on. The site has been a lot better since that meltdown over becton though. He said it's because there are stories to report on now. It's pretty obvious he'd just gotten lazy as shit though.
there are some contributors for sure in the class. of course half of them will get kicked out for cocaine or messy lockers or whatever but still
