I'm hoping Watford pulls the trigger which could make it easier for the HOOS to land T-good. I'm sure how VT is playing them, but they seem to the their top targets at qb. LaFonte says he is going to play qb. I can't explain why but I'd take him over Watford. I'm patiently waiting to see how it plays out.

Watford is a good kid, he's like my boy ju ju- solid. Lafonte has superstar potential when he gets to a college program and gets with a real QB coach. He still needs to be more accurate but his footwork improved tenfold from his 1st two years starting. He throws a good deep ball and he's hard to tackle. I think he's almost done growing, he's put on 25 pounds in a year and a half.

Was a shame for ocean lakes to forfeit the season and the playoff run. rivals might not know what's up with him but people back home do. He's a good kid, smart too. coach Harbaugh at Stanford didnt see him and offer for nothing.

I'm hoping not as bad as last time... :killme:

Real talk, we have plenty of holes to work out and too much uncertainty at the skill positions. I am excited about how the defense will shape up. We should look much faster than previous years.

You guys still have soo much talent it is hard to imagine us pulling off any sort of upset. I will be happy if we can keep it competitive.

Secondary is the far and away our biggest strength, followed by Dline. We are making a switch to the 4-3 so most of our DEs are moving inside and some of our lbs are coming up to the line. I think Cam Johnson moving from OLB to DE will be a great move. He is 6-4 and looks 260ish with pass rushing ability. Also our DTs have trimmed down since they no longer need to take up space in the middle.

I think there is a lot of raw talent on the offense. Still though I can't point to any player and say "difference maker". RB Perry Jones, WR Tim Smith, WR Kris Burd, and RB Dominique Wallace are the guys we need to get touches. The TE will return as a focus of our offense. Maybe one of our qbs will emerge later in the season, but early on it's going to be rough. Our only QB with game experience has more ints than tds by a lot. The Oline was really hurt last year switching to that fake spread garbage we tried. It was basically a wasted year for developing them.

Interesting, hopefully your secondary can challenge our WR we need them to be challenged early, Rojo will ball out this year, its everyone else that's a question mark in terms of how much they have improved.

Our DL is by far our strongest position on the whole team barring injury. So your offense sounds like it could face problems.

Allen Bradford will be our starter and is big and physical.
Secondary is very green apart from our number 1 corner, who is expected to be elite. Other than that it will all be first time starters, highly recruited but green.
Linebackers lack depth but Kennard is essentially our MLB now and his main job is to make sure power runs dont look so easy this year. Next to him are two seniors who are versatile. Should be a solid group.

Re: Anthony Harris Commits! **Official 5 Person UVA Thread**

CHARLOTTESVILLE -- When he rolled into town last month and moved into the dormitory room he's sharing with Kevin Parks, reality hit Morgan Moses.

After an odyssey that took him from Meadowbrook High School to Fork Union Military Academy and then home to the Richmond area and then back to FUMA, Moses was officially a UVa student, officially a UVa football player.

"It's been a long road," the mammoth offensive lineman said the other day, "but when I got here and moved in my stuff, I was like, 'It finally came true.'

"Just being enrolled in classes now and working out with the team, and bonding with the players in the class I was supposed to be in, it's crazy. It's a blessing."

Moses, a Parade All-American at Meadowbrook in 2008, occasionally wondered if he'd ever make it to UVa. So did Virginia fans. In February 2009, as a Meadowbrook senior, Moses had signed a letter of intent with UVa. But he failed to meet NCAA eligibility standards and ended up enrolling in the postgraduate program at Fork Union.

After playing for legendary coach John Shuman during the 2009 season, Moses returned home, believing he could fulfill his remaining academic requirements by taking on-line classes. He learned otherwise, which meant he needed to re-enroll at FUMA if he wanted to make it to UVa this year.

That turn of events didn't thrill him, Moses admits, but "football is what I love, and if I had to go back to Fork Union, that's what I had to do."

It helped that his teammates and classmates at FUMA included another UVa football recruit, Cody Wallace. Like Moses, Wallace first signed with Virginia two Februarys ago but wasn't cleared to enroll in 2009-10.

"He pushed me a lot in workouts and in the classroom and as a friend, too," Moses said.

In the end, of course, Moses cleared his remaining hurdle and was admitted to UVa, where he's likely to compete for playing time in the fall.

"I want to play as a true freshman," he said. "I feel like that year at Fork Union was a redshirt year for me."

UVa coach Mike London said: "With linemen, you hope they get a year to develop, and he hopefully did that in that Fork Union year. He looks good. He cut some baby fat, he's added some strength. We'll see how he looks when people are pushing back."

In high school and at FUMA, Moses played tackle, but guard might be an option, too, at least early in his college career.

"I would love to play left tackle, but if I have to play kicker, I don't care," he said with a huge grin.

At 6-6 and 346 pounds, Moses "blocks out the sun," London likes to say. Moses wasn't in great shape when he arrived in Charlottesville last month, but he's dropped 12 pounds since then.

"College workouts are very different than any high school or prep school workouts," Moses said.

College classes are different, too, as Moses can attest. He and Parks, a record-setting tailback from Salisbury, N.C., are enrolled in the second session of summer school at UVa. The rest of the Cavaliers' first-year class will begin summer school July 12.

"I thought it was a good idea to get [Moses] up here a little early to be around his teammates, our academic people, the coaches," London said.

"Right now I think he's doing well in the classroom, in the community, on the field. He has flourished being here. He's getting it done in the classroom. He's learning. He's being a college student."

Moses, who's taking a summer course on music and computers, said he let himself -- and many others -- down when he didn't qualify coming out of high school.

"My ninth-grade year, I kind of dug myself a hole academically," he recalled. Moses performed much better in the classroom as a senior, but it was too late then.

He said he's determined to remain in good academic standing at UVa.

"Because of the situation I was in before, I know I gotta work extra hard," he said, "and if I need I help, I can't be afraid to ask the teacher."

An excellent academic-support system exists for his players, London knows. But that's not enough. He expects them to attend -- and participate in -- all their classes.

"I tell the players, the professor is like a coach," London said, "and what coach would want to teach you if you didn't show up for practice, and you weren't prepared, and then when it was time for the exam -- game time -- you wanted the benefit of the doubt and wanted to be put in the game?

"Being there and asking questions and talking to the professor after hours, showing an active interest, that's key."

Al Groh was the Wahoos' coach when Moses signed for the first time. UVa fired Groh after a dismal 2009 season and hired London.

Groh's dismissal "kind of hit me hard," Moses said. It didn't take long, however, for the new staff at UVa to win Moses over. He was already familiar with London, a former Groh assistant who'd been head coach at the University of Richmond in 2008 and '09, and the more time Moses spent with new defensive coordinator Jim Reid, the more comfortable he felt about re-signing with the 'Hoos.

Reid, who like London is a former UR head coach, recruits the Richmond area for UVa.

"He's one of those coaches you dream about having," Moses said.

Moses has long dreamed about playing football for Virginia. That's about to be reality. Given the accolades he earned at Meadowbrook, much will be expected of Moses as a Cavalier. But he says he has to prove himself all over again.

"I feel like what happened in high school, happened in high school," Moses said, "and what happened at Fork Union, happened at Fork Union.

"It's a whole new level. I gotta write a new chapter for myself at UVa."

Charlottesville, VA - The Virginia football team will play a two-game, home-and-home series with the University of Texas at San Antonio starting in 2013. The Cavaliers and Roadrunners will meet Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013 in Charlottesville and UTSA will host Virginia at the Alamodome on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014.

UTSA will begin play as an NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) independent in 2011 and will apply to transition to full Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) status by the 2014 season. Virginia will be allowed to count both games played against the Roadrunners as contests against a FBS opponent in terms of the Cavaliers' bowl eligibility in those seasons.

In 2009 the Roadrunners hired former Miami head coach Larry Coker :parrot: as the school's first football coach.

    Ras-I Dowling - CB
    Tim Smith - WR
Cam Johnson - DE could really be a breakout star.

SC covered mostof this all, but our OL is really going to be regrouping from the shit show that was last year's spread experiment. If the D transitions to the 4-3 fine (which I really think it will) it could be pretty solid. Our only hope in keeping it close is to make some spectacular plays on D and grind it out enough on Offense to keep the ball somewhat. How likely this is to happen...eh...

If more conferences would start their own channels like the Big 10 we could see more of these shows. It's been a huge boost for me especially with all the new coaches. I just moved back to SC after 18 months in VA so I doubt its on down here.

Thanks for posting the videos and articles. I wasn't sure whether Morgan had started classes yet, but I'm glad to hear he and Parks are working. It should really help them get a handle on the academic side before they need to worry about playing football. That hit Ras-I put on Draughn was nasty. I think he will be re-energized this year and you will see more of that.

Re: Third in the Directors Cup **Official THE University of Virginia Thread**

David Watford has always been a quiet kind of guy. His leadership is evident, but he likes to “show it” rather than “say it” on the field. His grades in the classroom show it as well. Watford is an International Baccalaurate student at Hampton with a 3.7 GPA. For those unfamiliar with the rigors of the IB program, let’s just say that it’s an internationally recognized program of excellerated learning that also emphasizes community involvement and significant project work and presentations. It’s no cakewalk.

One of the biggest events in the offseason plan for Watford is an Elite 11 quarterback camp at either Ohio State or Alabama. Tyrod Taylor took a similar path in 2006 and wound up in the national Elite 11 showcase in Los Angeles that year.

Watford passed for over 1,500 yards with 16 touchdowns and 8 interceptions in 2009. Those aren’t stellar numbers, but Hampton was a very young team last year. In spite of their youth, the Crabbers made it to the playoffs and lost a stunner to Lake Taylor in the Division 5 Eastern Region Semi-final. Both Hampton High and David Watford will have grown immensely from last season, and they’ll look to knock Phoebus off of their perch in 2010.

Phoebus will have the edge to repeat as District, Region and State Champions, but Hampton will definitely be a team to watch. They might just go as far as David Watford will take them.

Re: Third in the Directors Cup **Official THE University of Virginia Thread**

David Watford's decision day is here..and don't be surprised if he's a Hoo-

David Watford made a point of telling me in February how "star-struck" he was when he got the chance to ogle Virginia Tech football coach Frank Beamer's ACC championship ring during Beamer's winter recruiting visit to Hampton High.

Of course, while Watford may have been temporarily swept off his feet by impressive jewelry, it's fair to assume a lot more has gone into the decision-making process for the Hampton quarterback. By the end of the day, don't be too stunned if Watford decides his best chance to get his own hardware will come in Charlottesville as opposed to Blacksburg.

That's just a hunch, but as David Teel astutely mentioned in his column space this week, Watford may confront significantly less competition for playing time at U.Va. than he would at Tech. Specifically, there's no Logan Thomas waiting in the wings in a Cavaliers' uniform. Thomas is a redshirt freshman that appears to be in grooming mode to step in after former Hampton High quarterback Tyrod Taylor's eligibility expires at Tech.

If Watford does commit to U.Va., it will mean the Cavaliers will have officially quickly taken root in Peninsula-area recruiting efforts under new coach Mike London, a Hampton native. Watford, Menchville's Clifton Richardson and Phoebus' Daquan Romero and Caleb Taylor represent the four best rising senior football players out of the Peninsula District. What would a Watford commitment mean for U.Va.? U.Va. 3, Tech 0.

I'm sure the Hokies aren't concerned at all. From around the message boards I frequent I was told this about these four recruits:

Richarson, won't make it to school, will either prep or go elsewhere so good luck.
Romero, too small and coaches don't think he is the type of playmaker they want.
Taylor, injured and they don't think he is really recovered also too small.
    Watford, career back up.

It's been pretty funny reading their opinions on the players from VA this year.

Watford will follow his cousin to UVA!!!! :bzzzz: :bzzzz:

Hampton (Va.) quarterback David Watford announced his college decision on Saturday at the Peninsula All-Star Camp at Christopher Newport University; the same camp that he attended growing up.

    ******
    Watford has committed to Virginia.
The 6-foot-2, 180-pound signal caller narrowed his choices to in-state ACC rivals, Virginia and Virginia Tech, in June.

Today, he selected the Cavaliers over the Hokies in front of media, family, and friends.

Although many predicted not too long ago that Watford would follow another Hampton Crabber, Tyrod Taylor and select Virginia Tech, Watford chose UVa because of his relationship with head coach Mike London and the staff, the academic reputation, and his feeling that the program is on the rise.

Watford's cousin, former Hampton and Virginia quarterback Marques Hagans was on-hand for the announcement, as was Tyrod Taylor.
