hmm if your ride can pick you up just as well wherever in town, Id take a cab to the Downtown Mall and fuck around the coffee houses/book stores/bars and restaurants there's all kinds of good shit if you have to hang out around the airport, just go to timberwood grill - it's nothing special but real close to it and better than hanging out in an airport.
you could also take the cab to UVA or "The Corner" area and post up at a coffee shop or bar - and visit me at my office
How far is downtown from airport? I was just gonna Uber wherever im guessing campus is worth visiting too?
yeah downtown and campus are pretty close to one another and both are a 15-20min ride from the airport. if you haven't seen UVA before, it's for sure worth walking around and seeing jefferson's lawn in person
yeah that strip of places is The Corner on University Ave: -bodos bagels - bagel sandwiches -Grit Coffee -christian's pizza -Boylan heights - craft burgers and drinks undergrads like - if you're looking to chill with a beer, I'd go here outside or Mellow Mushroom -The Virginian - the historical spot, good mac and cheese, BBQ isn't bad -Roots - grain bowls and salads -there's a decent rooftop bar in the Graduate Hotel - good view of the city. depending on when you're getting picked up and headed out of town, one of the best spots for food is right off the interstate on your way out of UVA: Ivy Provisions for really nice sandwiches
Not much to do in Standardsville brewery or bar scene wise. Octonia Stone is terrible. Blue ridge cafe is ok, but probably not a crowd you’d want to be around on the weekends. There are a few great wineries about 15 mins north in Madison, as well as a couple good breweries. If you go across the mountain there are a few nice spots over there as well.
I don’t know how good he is, but if he flipped, holy shit would the board have a meltdown over DB recruiting all over again
Standardsville = "another city" Bwahahaha Dammit devine we could have shown you a good time if we'd only known
I’m not sure, only passed by there, but I’ve heard great things about Lydia Mountain if that’s where you’re stayed. For sure would definitely recommend cruising the skyline drive at the top of the mountain. Lots of great views and hikes up there
My family farm surrounds that place. We actually had farmed it for 30+ years before the winery bought it, pretty much grew up there. Ducard is really good as well. Prince Michele is meh, but usually a good vibe.
Also here in Madison Bald Top brewery is great. Amazing beer brewed there, plus various wines from different wineries. Outdoor bands on Friday and Saturday nights. Not a lot of locals there anymore, mostly out of towners. Awesome spot though. Blue quartz is another here, that’s a little farther away. More of a local crowd at that one. Beer is ok, haven’t had the wine, but people love it. Also really close to Old Rag which is an amazing hike if you have a day you’re looking to kill.
Go to the Biltmore after if it's a nice day. My favorite bar. Bartenders are usually great (to talk to - they open beer bottles and combine rail liquor with a carbonated beverage of your choice.)
They call them Thumbs and Toes which always grosses me out a little bit but I agree. Have consumed many of them. Crozet Pizza at Buddhist Biker Bar right next door is basically the same bar but worse IMO. Can't really explain it.
Heading to lawn i think after that a quick za stop at the ‘ellow (this is what us locals call mellow mushroom) and then a nightcap drink at the graduate rooftop before leaving for the mountains
It’s sad that Tony Bennett’s system will never work in March because this campus is beautiful and deserves a title
That was before I was lectured on how ridiculous it is that McDonald’s can serve obese people which kills every day but the rest of the country is shut down over a virus
