Having to avoid spoilers is bad. Being forced to read two pages of "rank the most important houses in this fictional world"? Even worse.
ep 2 -> ep 3 is at minimum three years given the birth and celebration of the boy (aegon?) so the fighting at the stepstones for three fucking years = crab feeder dudes shoot at boats > dameon & co attack the beaches where crabfeeder dudes are torturing and killing said boat riders > crabfeeders run into caves when dameon & co come? that's it, for three years? seems weird.
the king promises 3 things towards the end of the ep: 1. help dameon win the fight in the stepstones 2. agrees to let the princess find her own match 3. says that the princess will remain the future ruler we know #1 happened. i'm curious if #2 and #3 will happen.
Bet #3 doesn’t, as the queen has already been told to convince him their son should be heir. #2 doesn’t seem like she really cares about love right now, but I’m sure she’ll fall for somebody, probably that knight.
It’s going to be fun rewatching the season after the first season is over. Neat seeing all the foreshadowing that happens early on.
don't you swear a vow of celibacy by joining the kings guard? that knight may be a sort of muse for her but i doubt they end up together. i would expect her to pick herself an "appropriate" match as she grows to understand the role of marriage in securing the realm. probably the sea snake's kid, as we just saw him riding the dragon at the end of the ep.
Classic bully behavior. You're a big badass when you're crucifying sailors and feeding them to crustaceans, but if a nobleman chases you into a cave, you end up cut in half with your bowels hanging out. Seen it a million times.
to some rulers he would have been a little bit of a bigger deal. dragons just wreck shit and maybe they're hammering that home early in this show just how powerful the Targ empire was when they were stacked with dragons/dragon-riders
yeah, they ended that dude quick and off-screen. glad it happened because daemon in the political world is way more fun. I'm assuming that daemon isn't getting greyscale from the crabfeeder but he was touching him.
Not sure if it was vow of celibacy or if it's like the nights watch "no wife or children" verbiage type scenario but I'd think he could "get out of it" if it really came down to it by being excused from the KG like Jamie Lannister when Jeoffrey was cleaning house. I agree though it seems extremely unlikely anything like that happens and he ends up being like a Daario Naharis > Khaleesi type relationship with her and she marries someone appropriate. She knows her duties and doesn't seem to be at the point yet where she would completely rebel and throw them out the window. Just isn't all-in on acting on/fulfilling those duties yet because of all the politics being shoved in her face
They didn't say whether or not the grayscale was still "active" or anything like that did they? Parts of it looked like he had started the same procedure Sam did to Jorah, like some of it had been peeled off or whatever. Maybe his crabs ate that shit off of him
Not all greyscale is terminal and contagious. If you remember from GoT - Shireen (Stannis' daughter) had grey scale and it just hardened her skin and wasn't contagious like the kind we saw when Tyrion was sailing through Volantis.
In theory they’re supposed to be celibate like the Nights Watch but we know that many KG fucked prostitutes in GoT. I think some are “pure” like Barristan, but the big deal is no wives/family.
He’s a pretty big deal in terms of he’s the spark that has started the now outright defiance of Corlys and Daemon from the King’s orders. Daemon stealing the egg was a little bit of one but he gave it back in the end with no bloodshed. Now him and Corlys have went completely against the King and when the King finally gives in Daemon gives him a big “fuck you, I got this shit”.
i think that's all negotiable as well. in the show tywin tries to get jamie to go back and be lord of casterly rock on almost every episode
Yeah that’s because if he’s lord of casterly rock he’d denounce the white cloak. It’s not like taking the black and you get killed for abandonment. More of an honor thing with the KG.
He could also have the cloak taken away like Barristan and not lose his head. I don’t recall if the penalty is death like with the Night’s Watch but even then I believe the king can relieve a Night’s Watch of their duty as well so they can pardon them.
I don’t think that’s hardly ever done. More of an example of Tywin thinking he’s above tradition and cultural norms.
Same as what he was going to do for Tyrion before he requested trial by combat. He’s running the realm so who’s to really challenge him for any type of decision like that? He can do whatever he wants and everyone who wants to stay alive will just deal with it.
I thought that was a great episode of television. They have written Rhaneyra so well. The story being told primarily through her perspective has added a lot of depth for me.
feels like we can save ourselves a lot of trouble just putting the queen and the hand's heads on spikes for treason edit - well, he wasn't executed but being stripped of the hand for this stuff was pretty good by the unworthy king!
i think i need some clarity on what happened in the sex place - dameon gets his niece drunk and takes her to a whorehouse - dameon takes off her hat when they are in the basement, exposing her as the princess - he leaves her there after some kissing or whatever - she runs back to the palace and the spy child basically follows her and reports that she was at the sex place with dameon - in the morning, the spy child sends the money to dameon's whore girlfriend and dameon is asleep there so my assumption is that it was a ploy by dameon to expose the princess as someone who was defiled. and so he confesses to the king to try and further tarnish her name -- he says himself that if a man did it, it's no big deal (so he doesn't care about his reputation). am i missing something? i can't quite figure out how the spy child is involved.
I don't think Daemon is involved in the spy network. he seemed surprised to see what she was doing and she said she had to find other means to get by. I think the gf is basically pimping out spies and the spy returned his payment from Otto to her. not sure if the gf was working with Otto, but my inclination is no. I could be wrong, but I think Daemon legitimately wanted to marry Rhaenyra. he couldn't do it in the whorehouse because of his ED issues that we've seen happen before. I think Daemon knows that the birth of Aegon pretty much ended all hope of him being the lawful heir. marrying Rhaenyra would be his best shot at this point.
Request to go back to when we stupidly used homophobic slurs to differentiate show watchers and book readers
i thought this was a good summary of why i like the show and especially liked ep 4, which was basically entirely ambiguous encounters
She swore on her mothers memory. Tho I guess she may have told the truth, technically. She lied multiple Times. I thought she was a good one.
