like 5 times I got arrested for unpaid tickets for expired registration. Luckily it was a small suburb jail (Highland Park) and not the Dallas jail. Most of the time its within the HP territory while I was driving a not so great looking car
Once. Less than a month after turning 16. Was going 59 in a 25(school zone) and had a joint on me. Had to take traffic school.
Twice. Not in the last 15 years. No tickets. One for driving with expired tags. Given a warning. One for driving "too close to the curb." Given a warning. Probably completely coincidental: a dark brown front seat passenger in my super white neighborhood.
There are a lot of these in Texas. Got one and called in about defensive driving. Was told to take deferred adjudication. As long as I did not get a ticket in town over the next 14 days the ticket did not go on record. 14 days. At least no defensive driving.
I too have that badge of honor. Been pulled over three total times for the suspicion. Once I was the loser. Once I was the DD and blew way under. Once I was stone sober and the county cop blew me out telling me I was drunk and he smelled alcohol. I pulled my dip out of my mouth and asked if he was sure he wasn't smelling that. The DUI was a tough lesson, but I needed it. If it never happened, I would have probably continued to push that limit until I ruined my life or someone else's. Until I actually thought about this thread and my getting stopped history, I never considered my racial privilege in that area. Given, a solid 80% of the stops at a young age were stupid and in all likelihood my vehicle being profiled, I still rarely had any consequences for their racism. I know we are a lot of idiots on this board at times, but I truly appreciate when the board can illustrate issues that my rural upbringing did not teach me. I forgot about the time I got stopped on a Navajo reservation in Arizona. The native cop did not know how fast I was going and basically saw white man that did not belong and wanted to ticket us. After he learned that we were there working for free in the clinic as part of our education, he chose not to ticket us. I imagine that is what minorities deal with on a daily basis and that is absolutely messed up.
Any of you ever used a place like Ticket Clinic? Was it worth it? Or do ya'll just pay the ticket and move on and take the points? Today - First time in about 10-15 yrs got stopped at a damn speed trap. A speed trap I've seen a dozen times before, such a scam. A moment of auto-pilot brain this morning forgetting to go super slow. They got me going 35mph.
Just got pulled over/ticket for making a no right on red in a town never been in, straight up didn’t see the signs. No cars were coming, didn’t pull out in front of anyone or anything. Cop chased me down onto a busy highway. Really protecting and serving.
Fun question, as I haven't thought to count it up in several years. Just recently, I mentioned "my first speeding ticket" in casual conversation with another man's wife, and she immediately repeated, your first speeding ticket, like it was remarkable to have multiple. Made me feel defensive. I've been pulled over 10 times that I can remember, seven of those for speeding, and twice I was let off with a warning. For one of those warnings, I was doing 65 in a 45, and the guy told me, just keep it under 60 though here. lol - I hope he's doing well.
Twice. Once for speeding, once for failing to yield the right of way. The first one, the cop told me "Since this is your first ticket, all you need to do is show up to court and the judge will throw it out." Fucking cop lied to me. I showed up and still had to pay. Could have saved a morning and just paid that shit online. The second one was bullshit. I was in the left turn lane and had a yield on green at the traffic light. THe traffic going in the opposite direction was two lanes. Cop was in the outside lane and was the first one at the intersection. When the light changed green for me, and thus green for them, the two cars in the inside lane went thru the intersection. The cop car hadn't moved an inch, so the car behind it went to the inside lane to get thru the intersection. And after that the cop car still hadn't moved. So I decided to make the turn and then they finally decided to fucking move to give me a ticket for failing to yield the right of way
7-8 times. a few with other people. once in the same hour by the same cop in the same place, i wasn't speeding either time. mostly warnings. couple of tickets. only one ticket since turning 22 so could be worse.
Spring 1994 I was northbound on I-95 somewhere in northern Florida in a convoy of five cars all doing 95mph. I was leading in my 1988 Mustang 5.0GT when I espied a highway patrol on the overpass ahead, so I got in the slow lane and let the others pass me. They didn't see him, so they flew by as the HP car accelerated onto the freeway, stomped the gas, passed everybody, and flipped on his lights for everybody to pull over. Everybody does, including me at the back end, and I watch as he walks by each car, points to the driver, and says "License and Registration." He gets to me and says "I didn't want you.... Unless you know these guys?" I said "Officer, I've never seen them before in my life," to which he jerks his thumb at the road and says "Get out of here, then."
4-5 times, I thank god that I got reasonable and level headed cops every time. A lot of black folks cant say that. Some of my friends cant. Like 2-3 days after george floyd I went to a gas station here in austin tx, filled up, was browsing the snack rack 2 white older officers walked in. One come up , gave me dap and a hug. i would like to believe there are cops who arent scumbags. Problem is...it only takes one on the wrong day to ruin / end ur life
Not many. Dumbest time was when I was driving home from the KC airport, about a 2 hour drive. Got in my truck at 11p, interstates were empty. I passed a truck and then just stayed in the left lane. Again, no traffic or anyone else around. Cop lights me up and gives me a warning for cruising in the left lane.
Grew up in a shitty-ass, podunk town, so +10. *Pulled over at 15...walking...while I was drinking a Jolt cola. Lights & sirens. *Pulled over biking across the street. Asked why I was riding in the road. *Busted headlight from borrowing my sister's car *Aggressive start - I guess my Dad's Bonneville had too much power *Had the police pull me over in my driveway for "driving recklessly" in my dad's old POS MGB. All of these were before college. No tickets. I've since been gotten speeding and other tickets elsewhere, but nothing in probably 10+ years.
Expired tags and emissions testing have got me. So avoidable but also such a pain in the ass when moving frequently. Maybe two speeding tickets, nothing reckless.
easily 20+ times, but haven't been pulled over in 10+ years until a few months ago: doing 53 in a 45 where the cop said he did me a "favor" by not putting down I was in a 35 (it wasn't). fuck all cops
Got pulled over twice going 20 mph over the speed limit and didn't get a ticket, I may or may not be white
Got pulled over 3 times on one trip alone going home to El Paso from San Marcos. Don't even know how many other times outside that trip
3-4 times for speeding (tallahassee, Madison, South Georgia and maybe Alabama) and once late in Atlanta leaving buckhead at 20. Picked up my friend from the bars at 20 in his Tahoe and the lanes weren’t big so I got pulled over. Exited the car and everything. Officer gave me a handshake for being a good friend because my buddy was in the back drunker than shit yelling ridiculous shit. Think he had a girl back there as well.’wound up taking her home first and left the friend asleep in his car with a text to his parents.
I’ve had to take one of those online defensive driving courses to get points back. Also received a few tickets for not having a front tag and having a radar detector.
Been pulled / profiled going the speed limit in Wyoming. Had California plates and was used to mountain driving. Paced myself to maintain 65mph going up hill and I was blowing by semis. Dude was a real bastard.
Similarly, I got pulled over in Wyoming in a car with NY state plates literally going 1 mph over the speed limit on the highway. Was with my buddy who was a police officer in NY. He showed his badge and the officer said, "So?"
Yep. Worst part was the bastard pulled me over at like 10AM on my drive and wrote me a warning. To avoid getting pulled over again I drove 5 under the speed limit from the west end of Wyoming all the way though.
I got pulled over doing 63 in a 55. Think you can't even write a ticket for that in Georgia. I believe he was just mad I didn't slow down when I saw him. He approached my car with his hand on his gun. Gave me a verbal warning. Completely pointless. Then he walked backwards to his car with his hand on his gun. I couldn't help but laugh as he did this.
One of my favorites was when I was heading to a wedding outside of Boston. I wasn't familiar with the area, and I hit a spot that went from 55 to 30 really abruptly. I saw a police officer at the side of the road, waving, and I didn't know what he was doing, so I kept on my way. A couple of miles later, I was almost to my destination when his lights and sirens were on behind me. HIs first words to me were "Why were you evading me?" I might have laughed. Told him I was headed to a wedding, and in that thick Beantown patois, he goes "You ain't dressed for no wedding," like I fucking drove around in my suit for the entire weekend. I used my rear auto window to show him my suit hanging. He didn't like that. Many tickets.
The past two times I've been pulled over (15 years & 10 years ago), I was speeding and the cop was heading the opposite direction. Once I saw them hit the lights, I pulled over and waited on them to come back. Both times, they thanked me for not making them chase me and let me off with a warning.
