(Babruns) Welcome all. Today we are very pleased to welcome back legendary coach Chief Hawk back to Illinois. Chief will be taking the podium to address the media and take your questions.

Thank you all for coming out here tonight on such short notice (pauses to gather thoughts) I am very pleased to be welcomed back with such love and support by my friends, family, the Big 10, and The Fighting Illini of Illinois.

I apoligize to all of you about my abrupt exit before while i took care of some personal matters, and i would appreciate if you don't get into those matters today here with me, i am here to talk about myself coming back to be the head coach of Illinois football program.

I have been away from the team and football all together the past couple years, so i am not full aware of what has gone on in the past with this team or what i have to work with. but that stuff is in the past, i am all about the present and the future. I understand that they have had a couple coaches in between my two tenures, and i will do my best to not let that affect my performance on the field, in recruiting, and coaching these young boys into men.

Today has been a busy day for me, i signed a 3 year contract with the team this morning, I then met with the Illinois president, and then i met with my team. bunch of good young men on that team. they have been through alot. I recruited these guys during my last tenure, then i left them, and they had 2 other coaches leave them in between, now these kids are bright shining stars on this team, some of them All Americans and looking to be playing on Sundays in the next couple years. I could not be more proud of these kids for all the hard work they have done, had all this shit thrown at them, they just put their heads down, and kept their feet moving.

I told them today: "Either we heal as a team, or we're gonna crumble, inch by inch, play by play till we're finished. We're in hell right now. And we can stay here, get the shit kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back to the light, we can climb out of hell. one inch at a time. Now i can't do it for you, i'm to old. I look around and see these young faces and i think, i made every wrong choice a middle aged man can make. I pissed away all my money, believe it or not. I chased away everyone who has loved me. and lately, i cant stand the face i see in the mirror....
You know when you get old in life, things get taken from ya, thats part of life. But you only learn that when you start losing stuff. You find out lifes this game of inches, so is football. Cuz in either game, life or football, the margin for error is so small, i mean one half a step to late or to early, you don't quite make it. One half second to slow, to fast, you don't quite catch it. The inches we need are everywhere around us, their in every break of the game, every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone else around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Cuz we know, when we add up all those inches, thats gonna make the fucking difference between winning and losing, between living and dying. I tell you this, in any fight, its the guy who is willing to die that is gonna win that inch. and i know if i'm gonna have any life anymore, its because i'm still willing to fight and die for that inch. Because that what living is, 6 inches in front of your face! Now i can't make you do it. you gotta look at the guy next to you, look into his eyes. I think you're gonna see a guy who will go that inch with you. You're gonna see a guy who will sacrifice himself for this team, cuz he knows when it comes down to it, you're gonna do the same for him. Thats a team, gentleman. And either we heal NOW, AS A TEAM, or we will die as individuals.
Thats football guys, thats all it is. Now, what you gonna do?"

I tell you what ladies and gentleman, after that speech, i looked into each and every players and coaches eyes. I saw determination and will in all 90 sets of eyes.

Ladies and Gentleman, I am Chief Hawk and I am the new head coach of the Fighting Illini. Have a good day, i'll see you all next fall.

I must say that its not a horrible move, but it is by no means a good movie. I love that speech though, very epic when he is giving in during the movie.

the media and fans are really calling for the head of their new head coach following an embarrassing showing in Waco, Texas against the Baylor Bears

one newspaper headline reads as follows:

"Is Chief Hawk really the man for the job?" another one reads: "No Champagne for Chief"

after squeaking out a near victory against Boston College 13-10, Illinois traveled to Waco, Texas to take on the Baylor Bears and lose 34-24. Illinois never did lead in the game, they fell down early 13-0 and never recovered. They did rattle off 10 straight points to make it 13-10, but a Baylor score with 11 seconds to go in the half would cripple the Illini's will to win as they went into half 20-10.

Illinois did have a shot in the 3rd quarter with the score 17-20 to get into the end zone, but a fumble at the 10 yard line turned that drive into no points and Baylor marched the ball down the field to get into the end zone and make the score 27-17. A Baylor touchdown halfway through the 4th quarter turned out to be the final coffin in the Illinois chance to pull off the comeback. Illinois did get into the end zone one final time to make the score 24-34 to make it look respectable.

Senior Quarterback Miles Osei had one of his worst games of his career throwing 17 for 43 for 307 yards. 1 touchdown, 3 interceptions. he also rushed the ball 6 times for 2 yards. and was sacked twice. Osei's recievers didnt help him out much as they dropped many balls that would have been good for first downs and been able to sustain drives.

As a team, they were 4-9 (44%) on 3rd down conversions. committed 5 turnovers (3 ints, 2 fumbles) were out gained in total yards 557-477. Illinois only controlled the ball for 8:49 while Baylor had the ball nearly double that 15:11.

Chief Hawk had this to say following the game in his post game interview:

"We did not play close to our best game out there, if i had to grade our performance, I would be very generous to rate it as a D. you know the stats, i don't need to tell you about them, they were shitty stats. You're not gonna win many ball games with those kind of numbers. the 5 turnovers really hurt us. if you turn the ball over that many times, you don't deserve to win.

We'll be flying back to Champaign here shortly, and me and my assistants will start looking at the film, finding what we need to improve on, bring the team in tomorrow morning, correct those things, and then forget this game and move on. That is all you can do at this point, forget and move on.

I promise you, i will not field another team that puts out this type of product again."

I tried to recruit and then play this morning at 630 am. No dice, EA servers weren't a go, then I retried, started to recruit and poof during recruit call it says servers down. I will try and get home right after work and play. Fing EA.

After not participating in the opening week of the 2014 football season, Wisconsin got its season underway on the road at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum against the #1 USC Trojans. Andrew Love, team leader and last years recipient of the Jim Thorpe award was asked about opening the season against the #1 Trojans. "We feel like they are a group of amazing athletes that have come together, but what they don't have is a team. They aren't going to be ready for us, because they don't know what a real team is." Love was later reprimanded by coach Hawkiz4life for those comments. "Love loves his teammates, and is really excited to get the season started. He just needs to realize that what he says is going to be heard by the world, so sometimes he needs to bring in that passion. He has been punished on the practice field, and he will still get the start against the trojans. We are going to be ready to put on the pads and go from the first whistle."

That final phrase by Hawkiz4life proved to be exactly the opposite of what Wisconsin showed when the took the field against the Trojans. The trojans took the ball to start the game and went straight down the field on a 73 yard touchdown drive without facing a single 3rd down situation. "They came out throwing the ball, and we just weren't ready for it," said Morris. "We had game planned from the start of camp to shut down their ground game and we didn't expect them to throw the ball like that." Wisconsin was able to get a first down on their ensuing possession before they punted it away again USC drove down the field, throwing for 7 of 8 plays and putting them up 14-0. It looked as though that score was going to be even worse, but two redzone turnovers helped Wisconsin get back into it. In the beginning of the 2nd quarter, Trojan QB Corey Davis was hit as he released the ball, and Wisconsin FS Adam Williamson was able to get his hands on the ball in the endzone, stopping the threat. Later in the second quarter, USC had a 1st and goal from the five when USC HB Derek Davis took the ball off left tackle before getting lit up by Love and losing the ball. Wisconsin recovered the ball, and was able to drive down the field and draw within a possession before halftime with an eleven yard TD pass from Junior QB Sears.

In the second half, Wisconsin was able to score on their second possession, after getting pinned deep by a USC punt. On third and 9 from their own 7, Sears dropped back to pass, and in the face of a blitz was able to find his halfback, Danny Taylor, for a 93 yard scoring drive. "I just threw the ball, I didn't have time to process it, I saw him, and hit him. He did everything else on his own." Taylor caught the ball in front of his defender in the straight man coverage, and outran the defense down the right sideline.

After the teams traded touchdowns, Wisconsin was able to force a punt by the Trojans with 1:30 left in the game. Sears moved the team down the field and set up true Freshman Drew Mann for the 39 yard FG attempt. Unfazed by the crowed, Mann split the uprights with no time left on the clock. "It was an amazing experience. Every kicker dreams of making that kick, and I was able to take that opportunity and do something with it."

After the game, Hawkiz4life was not as excited as his players. He cited lack of discipline by his linebackers as the largest problem. Several times they lost track of their man during plays giving up large gains through the air. He also stated that they needed to address their turnover problem stating that "Sears needs to think before he throws the ball sometimes. He stepped up big in the second half and brought us back from the brink, but he can't look past the mistakes he made in the first half. That is something we will address in the film room, and I'm sure Sears will come back strong."

Wisconsin has high hopes for this season, returning 4 of 5 offensive linemen and 10 of 11 men on the defensive side of the ball, Jim Deleany picked them to win the conference this season. If Wisconsin wants to live up to those expectations, they are going to need to be more disciplined on both sides of the ball, and they will have that opportunity next week when the Texas Longhorns come to Madison for another top 25 test.
