I will say this, I really don’t think you guys have paid any attention to Dirk if you think he is rooting for anything other than the story (in this case the jays winning) even if bad takes come across. He was easily the best writer in the state. People hate him because he called a lot of Nebraska a turd when it always was proved correct. Legit never understand the hate of him. He asked the questions that needed to be asked about the football program forever and literally wasn’t wrong. An opinion about the game doesn’t change the fact he doesn’t really give a shit about the Jays outside of the story locally.
He grew up a Husker fan, went to UNL, and just called shit from a factual standpoint from quotes or numbers in his articles. Literally the opposite of most hot-button journalist. He also did a lot to highlight things the state should be proud of.
People started to hate him because he called Nebraska football exactly what we have for 20 years on the boards, but he called it almost always earlier. That it was a bad fucking product. He wrote 24th and Glory and HAS stated he wanted the best Bo teams to be good because he hates the fact he never got to cover them when they were great.
I just don't think you need to white knight for Dirk, especially two posts in length. But I know your default mode so it's understandable. Carry on.
My biggest reason to white knight him is because he was a really damn good journalist. Legit the best writer I’ve seen from a local coverage standpoint in any market I’ve been in. My over-the-top mode comes in when people say shit that’s simply not true.
To me it was more about the take itself, not who it came from. I’ve always liked Dirk for the most part.
The group of people in here have a weird way of hating everybody in every regard. I hate Dean because he sucks at journalism, pulls stories to protect himself, and is as bad at grammar as I am. Sip can be entertaining in an old-fart way but I really don’t think he adds anything to the narrative. Shatel had his moment but cashed it in a long time ago. Dirk was the best *journalist* and storyteller in the state. Lots of it was smaller stories and some bigger. I appreciated that and I get annoyed when people get pissy with THAT kind of journalism while making Dean rich as fuck.
