Did we suddenly forget Bo's last year as a DC? I think watching LSU absolutely hemorrhage yards from the first snap of the season that year was one of the last tims I ever took delight in CFB And "well above average" HCs don't end up at Youngstown. The entire P5 said "no thanks"
Shit. I forgot Frazier and Phillips shared a backfield (I didn’t follow college football at that point). Those look like some real fun times to be a Husker.
But he won at a decent clip, right? Was he just winning the games he should and not competing against more evenly matched opponents? B12 was pretty good back then no? Pod made it sound like they let him go because he wasn’t winning enough AND because he was a world class asshole. From the LMAO response that got I assume the asshole part didn’t play as big a part.
He’s legit. RU offered him and prioritized him out of high school. Really wanted this kid. But I thought he was for sure staying in the draft…
I think he reached his pinnacle as a coach at Nebraska and the game quickly passed him. Add that he was a world class asshole and canning him was 100% the correct decision, despite the repeated missteps by Nebraska afterward.
Lazy, incompetent recruiter Hired other lazy, incompetent recruiters Stubborn MFer who never made adjustments and regularly let teams set all time rushing records against us Teams got absolutely embarrassed anytime they were on primetime. Got 9 wins every year by Ameer Abdullah pulling off herculean feats to come from behind against mcneese st Signature B1G win is over a tOSU team that finished 6-7 Viscerally repulsive human He created the conditions for the W/L collapse that followed by not recruiting worth a shit or developing anybody. There were zero good players on that team the next 2 years. Total NFL draft drought for first time in program history Fuck Bo Pelini.
He was the biggest beneficiary of Big Bill's recruiting I also get physically ill anytime I hear the phrase "pattern matching"
Pattern matching is how you get a meaty Sioux Falls dickhead in perfect position to drop game winning INTs
Lol. This is me too. I’ve gotten into shouting matches with random old men about Pelini. 10 years later and I’m still mad. Guy sucked so bad.
the crazy thing about Bo is how, despite being a legendary lazy recruiter, he always would luck into having 2 or 3 legitimate All Americans to drag us to 9 wins. we haven't had any like them since. Amukamara--Callahan recruit Dennard--late Marvin Sanders (I think) find Suh--Callahan recruit Crick--Callahan recruit David--only took him to help get Yoshi Long--walk on Abdullah--only got him because Auburn wanted him as a DB Burkhead--legimately good recruiting win Gregory--JUCO with a broken leg
Or Blaine Gabbert. But there was no convincing him on that one. It's really amazing to me. Most of CFB's greatest coaches were huge assholes. Just ruthless pieces of shit in obsessive pursuit of winning, completely unredeemable in any other aspect of life. But those traits are also pretty necessary for that level of success. Bo is like the one guy who was suuuuuuuuuch a dickhole that it somehow made him an even worse coach. How good is that 2009 team if Bo let's Blaine Gabbert join and doesnt cut Castille for smoking weedpots? Like, in the MNC game?
The number of coaches from that staff (Bo included, currently in beverage sales) that are out of coaching working menial jobs is hilarious. Like, apparently ambulance sales? I guess I didn't really used to think that was the sorta thing that needed a salesperson
you could legitimately make like a 12 part documentary about Nebraska during the Pelini years. It was peak entertainment, just think of all the shit that went down. -the hotel basement before the Texas game in 2010 -OSU secret recording gate -the Texas A&M officiating/Taylor Martinez saga -Really the entire Martinez era -Bubba Starling saga -the spring game cat lmao -the firing and secret team meeting at North Star
Giving up 70 pts in the conf championship to an opponent you’d already beaten once and who only got into the game because of other teams’ extralegal tattoos and/or pederasty.
Bo later lost to a team he beat earlier in the season TWICE The ways he managed to find his 4 losses were incredible
How many career rushing yards did Melvin Gordon have against the Bo? Addendum: 34 carries for 624 yards 312 ypg 18.4 ypc 10% of his career rushing yardage in college was against Bo Pelini in two games
It came to light itt that some here actually think Bo was an ok coach. The correct answer is, Bo was a good DC for a couple of years there. But for well over half of his career he was even bad at that
If we self-flagellate enough for Supporting The Bo, Jesus will return us to 9 wins per year, duh. Now you please share your special awful thing that still hurts you, or that would be a good scene in Ed’s movie gbr
In my defense, I’m a Rutgers fan and only knew that he was a despicable human being with a very punchable face, who averaged 9 wins per year.
saturday morning, feeling perky, going to a charity event later tonight, *whistling* crawls in a hole
Every prospect must return home and discuss the matter with all of their extended family, football coaches, teachers guidance counselors, church leadership and God before they decide where they want to go to college. You know, just like we did.
