Sometimes I wonder if Dean is secretly as miserable covering Nebraska sports as we are watching it and is covertly auditioning for other jobs in the news industry. Between this and his weather reporting, he’s putting together quite the resume.
You get 2 steps after you gather the ball. Still looks weird when Giannis can basically go from the 3pt line to a dunk without a dribble.
It’s like all the NFL passing rules in favor of the offense. As I understand it, you get 2 steps after you gather the ball which means touching with both hands or cradling it. They get pretty liberal about when it’s actually “gathered.”
It's a good thing. I stated in the other thread on this that some had speculated he'd be out within the next year or so, but this is obviously earlier than that.
I don’t love Moos, I think he was a yes man and wouldn’t STFU…but that said, who are we going to hire? Who’s going to want to sign up to be the guy that fires Frost.
Why let him go? Because he served his initial purpose long ago and has really no inherent value to the AD. He was a puppet. The game has passed him by. I'm not certain we'll hire someone better, which is the unfortunate part (given the last however many years of anything related to Husker sports).
Moos probably signed that buyout with the quickness and is currently dying from laughter on the drive back to his ranch. Man made 3 hires that were pretty universally lauded and now doesn’t have to deal with the fallout of the most high profile one being an abject failure.
It’s my apathy that has me disconnected like never before, but I think it’s a bit disingenuous to act like this was expected. I want no one connected to Osborne era Nebraska. Fuck all that shit.
There’s a small part of me that wants this to happen because I have zero faith in a real hire anyways so let’s just let them both crash and burn and we can maybe move on from trying to replicate 1997 ever again.
I feel like there's been rumblings of Moos being on the way out for like a year at least. I was not remotely surprised
Yeah I was thinking you can't really blame him for Frost. If he hired anyone else then he would have been murdered.
It wasn't expected that he'd be let go/retired/fired whatever they're calling it, today. It was expected he wouldn't be here past the end of the current contract given his age and other factors.
With the amount of 5th years coming back I’m sure we’ll have a pretty insane roster. Is Cook ready to walk away from that to take over as AD?
As Hebrew said, whoever takes the job is going to have to fire Scoot Farts. Then there will be a Stop the Steal-style storming of North Stadium. Carl from Ainsworth will sit at Moos’s desk and prop up his feet. Roger from Stromsburg will draw what he thinks is an Antifa symbol on a picture of Mike Riley but it will actually be a Greek Orthodox cross. Nancy Wanek from Crete will attempt to break into the trophy case to bring the Whale back to Saline county. She will fail.
This is a Nebraska onion masterpiece that is intended as satire but we all know it’s the little boy laughing and then crying gif as we know it’s likely going to be reality.
Per my friend Dean also said he’s curious to see how involved Moos was in planning the Garth concert.
Is anyone else skeptical of the move to hire Cook as AD? He’s obviously a proven coach but I’m not sure how that relates to managing an entire athletic department. It just seems like it’s another example of hiring the ‘hometown guy’ who isn’t proven in that role.
He’s one of the best coaches that’s ever lived in his sport. Clearly he’s a driven, organized, ruthless leader and we could do far far worse (and we likely will). Having said that, I doubt Cook wants to shoulder the responsibility of firing Frost which would turn a portion of the fan base against him, which brings me back to hating a large portion of our fan base. Seeing the support for Davison today and those terrified that the new AD won’t be all in for a 12-20 football coach doesn’t give me much hope.
