its been a great off-season for Chin. its going to be the most experienced defense in many years. offensively its like rats fleeing a sinking ship.
From Dean: The latest I heard this morning is Nebraska is not worried about this (McCaffrey transferring). As we know, that can always change, but right now there is nothing on the radar of this. For perspective, the Wan'Dale thing was on the radar for a few days before it went live. -Please respect his ethics and professionalism
Count me still in the boat labeled I don’t care if mccaffrey transfers absolutely nothing last season suggests he can play QB at a P5 school. If he stays he should put on 15 pounds and switch to Duck since Gone’Dale
January thaw and its familiar car stank have arrived in Minneapolis. Like somebody’s been in there tooting for the Cornhuskers all dang day.
It will be interesting to see how good the freshman from Superior is. She’s been all-world in every sport since she was a freshman in high school. Hopefully she’s actually the real deal.
I think Nebraska might blow away tonight and tomorrow( honestly with the pubs in this shit state would it hurt?
oldberg Remain inside your home away from windows and use caution while driving. We’re gonna get through this!
Who knows what the issue is with special teams but I definitely wouldn’t mind committing a real full time assistant to that unit...then let him do his job
No idea what is going on with special teams, but I would assume Frost/Verduzco/Chin all have input and then the analyst runs the ST meetings overall. I also don't know if each position coach coaches specific positions when dealing with ST or what. From a scheme standpoint, I am not sure who oversees it really, but I would assume most coaches have a part in coaching everything from Punt Team to Kick Off Return. I think the problem is that we don't emphasize it strong enough in practice so you have about 10-15 minutes worth of ST periods with below average attention span from the players.
This would make sense. Based on the inability of the team to execute basic stuff under Frost, I could see this just being something that doesn’t get the attention it needs. Overall I’d love to know how practices go, just because it seems like a lot of the issues we have are basics that aren’t harped on enough. That plus the fact it seems like Frost truly thinks we practice well enough to win, obviously there’s stuff that is not translating to gameday.
Our defense has improved but it still lacks the disruptive dlinemen many B1G teams have. Also who knows how much good vs good they do. Like I’m sure our offense looks killer vs the walk on brigade
You mean a speed/edge rusher? I thought our DL was pretty solid all year. Made a lot of plays and knocked some balls down. DD was getting held inside all year long. If we can replace Tannor/Nelson with a legit good football player/athlete we should have a top 20 defense.
As much as the defense pisses me off during the games, I’ve actually grown to at least respect the defensive staff in the sense that it appears most of that side of the ball gives a shit and plays with a high level of effort and buy into the coaching. Which probably explains some of these guys coming back. Plus, Chins usually seems to not make up a bunch of clown-level excuses when his unit sucks. I know none of that matters in the scheme of it all, because we still suck, but compared to Frost it’s still refreshing to see.
You can see guys on D playing hard. Even though they need to fix their technique, the secondary was playing to kill people all year. Guarantee B1G receivers are going to fear those guys next season.
In practice, way too much emphasis is put on doing things “fast” and not enough emphasis is put on doing things right. Major lack of attention to detail which obviously shows on game day.
That is the modern way of coaching. I’ve had some DCs who will stop everything mid play and break it down, while others rotate through their 1s, 2s, and 3s and use practice film, meetings, and the occasional break in practice to coach them up. I tend to agree with the newer age of coaching because it doesn’t disrupt the flow as much. But if the mistakes are continuous, you need to go back to as many walk throughs as possible
Shawn? Is this the stiffest d you’ve seen? I know youve checked out the Ds of countless coaches and coordinators over the course of your very professional career? I trust the integrity with which you judge D’s. Can you please let me know how stiff Chin’s d will get this year? Lotta young pups playin on that D for numerous years now. Hope the experience brings husker fans the D they’ve missed. Tia gbr tyfys
