I remember in hs I was absolutely dogging it one time, like the entire team would push the five man sled for whatever reason. I went the middle one and wasn’t expelling any effort. The coach later that day said I had perfect form and asked me to switch positions. Couldn’t take him seriously and didn’t.

Dominic Raiola played at Nebraska, it’s part of who he is and who his family will be, and so getting back to Lincoln this past weekend to see if it’s the best spot for his five-star quarterback son and spending time with coach Matt Rhule was crucial.

    And very beneficial to

    Dylan Raiola
, the No. 1 player in the 2024 class.

“It’s Nebraska,” Dominic Raiola said. “I don’t know if I’ve told anybody this but I was thinking about it and we’re always going to be Nebraska fans because what it did for my family and what it means to our family.

“I went to school there so we’re going to be fans regardless. To actually see what coach Rhule is doing, what his regime is doing, it’s definitely a breath of fresh air. They’re rocking and rolling and they have those kids in there believing and they’re doing all the right things.

“You can say all the right things but when you see them do all the right things and there’s a bunch of talent they have on campus.”

This is not the first visit to Nebraska for Raiola, who’s been to campus numerous times over the last many months including for a boys' trip with his uncle, Donovan, who’s on the Huskers' staff.

The Raiolas believe Nebraska is special - and it’s time to figure out whether it’s the best spot for the five-star quarterback’s future.

“You just have to get there,” Dominic Raiola said.

“It’s not that hard to get there but you just have to get there and see it. It’s a huge program. The kids in our day and age right now don’t remember the Sea of Red and all the national titles in the '90s so having said all that, the weekend was great. We got to take in practice, we got to learn more about the offensive scheme and then putting all the words into action and to see it on the field, it’s good.”

What Dominic Raiola appreciated most was Rhule’s vision put into action already in the building. This visit wasn’t just about talk and expectations but seeing the Nebraska players putting in the work and fully expecting results.

Georgia and USC are absolutely the other frontrunners and both have so many things to offer Raiola, who doesn’t have any other visits planned for sure yet, but the Huskers made another big impression this past weekend.

“In fairness to him he hasn’t had a year there yet,” Dominic Raiola said of Rhule. “If you asked me, he’s behind in recruiting and I say that because he just got there and he’s trying to change this place. When he talks about his vision, they’re going to win, they’re going to win now and he believes they’re going to win now.

“I understand you should feel like that when you’re a head coach but he brings a little bit different energy when he says it. And then you see it backed up with all the actions around the building, all the things going on there. The message is easy: We’re going to win, we’re going to win now and they want him to be a part of it - be a part of the winning and to put Nebraska back on the map.”

When Nebraska hosted the huge Junior Day over the weekend. One of the goals was to expose new players to Nebraska that hadn’t been on campus before. California four-star running back
    Nathaniel Frazier
took his first trip to Lincoln and was blown away.

“It was a great visit,” Frazier said. “When I first got out there the main thing I thought was corn fields because you know 'Cornhuskers.' I did my research and I've been doing my research. Nebraska is the original RBU school. You have major running backs that went to that school, and were dominant at that position that I'm playing right now."

All the resources that Nebraska has really grabbed the running back’s attention. That extends beyond the football field. He was impressed at the number of Academic All-Americans the program has. That shows that Nebraska is a place that he can be a successful person in life if he does the right things.

Coach Matt Rhule and his running backs coach EJ Barthel were also very impressive.

"Coach Matt Rhule has a good head on his shoulders and a very good coach. He's a genuine coach,” Frazier said. “To me, how Coach Rhule is, this is not all about football to him. It's about really developing men over there. As far as my position running back coach Coach EJ Barthel he's a great coach too.”

Frazier enjoyed seeing Nebraska’s “high-intensity” practice. The coaching staff leaves room for mistakes. The way he saw the coaches correcting those mistakes is different from a lot of programs in his opinion. The athlete said that the coaching staff was tough on the players but gave motivation. The players did better the next time and the same mistakes weren’t repeated.

If getting players exposed to Nebraska and the staff was goal number one, goal two is getting players back for a return visit. The Huskers are on their way with Frazier.

"I have to get back to a game. I have to,” Frazier said. “When you have a program that is selling out his 1962 with a crazy fan base like that. Every single tweet I make on Twitter gets 100,000 views if it's about Nebraska man. I have to get back to back to a game. That is a must."

The Huskers had a pair of five-stars on campus this weekend, and it just so happens that they already have a relationship built. Quarterback

    Dylan Raiola
    and wide receiver
    Ryan Wingo
both visited Nebraska for the big Junior Day weekend. Wingo, a St Louis native, liked what he saw in Lincoln.

“It was good! Their new facility stood out the most to me on the trip,” Wingo told Inside Nebraska.

One of the key reasons that coach Matt Rhule and his staff wanted to get so many top-end players on campus this weekend was to lay out the new vision for the program. That message resonated with Wingo.

“He’s got a special thing going that’s going to get them back to their winning days,” Wingo said.

This weekend was also the first time that Wingo was about to be around wide receivers coach Garret McGuire in person. The two seem to be hitting it off well.

“That’s my guy!!! He’s a younger coach, so he’s relatable in a lot of ways,” Wingo said.

Wingo kept things close to the vest when the subject turned to setting up official visits and where Nebraska ranks in his top schools. He’s going to Georgia for an official visit but hasn’t thought about his other four visits beyond that.

Wingo spent a lot of time with Raiola in Lincoln this weekend, and he said the vibes with the quarterback are always good. They were also on a trip to Georgia together last weekend.

The Huskers had their chance with the elite pass catcher this weekend. Now we’ll see if he returns for another visit after what seems like a pretty positive experience.

The message from the running back about not repeating the same mistakes and that being different was good, but like most things, trying to understand a high-school kids thinking from 3-4 snippets of content is mostly useless.

I don’t think it was ever mandated or anything in college, or at least recently. Benard Thomas wore 5 as a DE here in 2004, Ankrah wore 9 as DL too later on for example.

The NFL is where it’s more mandated by positions in terms of what numbers are allowed.

Rahmir gotta be one of my favorite Huskers in awhile. No idea why he wasn’t playing much last year. Fairly touted coming out of HS, and just steadily improved as a RB through his time here. Not even close to the RBs we’ve had in the past but I like him and his skill set.

Sip also appears to be self-aware. Has some legit connections as well. Don’t agree with him that often but can be entertaining as well.

Dean is self-important, incompetent, and has a Twitter that Magic Johnson would be proud of.

I haven’t listened to anything he has done with Dean, but I appreciate he is self-aware unlike Dean.

As far as connections I think that’s a given. He nailed Frost being gone before the buy-out. Him taking up his axe for Bo was always weird and that’s why I usually don’t agree with him. He is very much ingrained into the old-school mentality on how shit needs to get done.

I’ll be the last one to stan for Dean who is my least favorite ‘journalist’ in the state.

As for Sipple, I’m just being unbiased. I don’t like his writing style, I mostly don’t agree with his takes, but he has connections and knows what’s going on with the program. It’s why it was annoying that he picks and chooses which coaches to stand up for based on his personal preference.

Look, Sip schlobbed Pelini's knob for almost a decade. Why? To get access and potentially a book deal.

He was a constant, shrewd critic of Riley from day 1. Why? Because Riley was a professional and decent human who wouldn't threaten sportswriters' access based on their fealty. So it was safe and easy to do so.

Rinse and repeat for the Farts regime like Pelini.

He's a spineless, dry-drunk hack. He'll be first in line to cast incredulity on Rhule as soon as we lose a game because it's safe to do so.

The best journalist in this state usually leave or move onto bigger things and nobody can blame them. We have one thing to cover in this state and it’s been a dumpster fire for this entire century.

If a Mina Kimes rolls around they aren’t going to stick around. Several people have went to Denver because it’s 100x more interesting with a lot more diverse sports scene.

A few stick around who grew up here but that’s rare. Kugler is a perfect example. Keep doing the Husker show or…the Masters and NFL? Yea, that’s a tough decision.

I don’t disagree with that, it’s essentially what I said. Thus, my pick and choose statement.

Look, I obviously don’t support them because I haven’t nor will I sign up on whatever website him and Dean have.

I find it a lot more weird that people itt would call them all hacks and pay money to them. I guess to each their own.

On a good note I opened both large papers today (clicked online) to see that Nebraska got one step closer to removing a permit to open-carry.

If sports media sucks ass in this state it’s still 10000000000000000x times better than a lot of these asshats deciding pretty much anything to do with anything (and Nebraska isn’t unique, obviously).
