It was before everyone knew he stole 10+ million from his clients too. The accountant at the law firm was hot on his tail. The property they were murdered on was in Maggie’s name.
he decided he needs to kill wife and thinks "well the whole world wants to murder my son so if I make it look like she just happened to be a witness to his murder" and...
Yeah they were definitely abusing their power as solicitor to intimate everyone in the town. Will be interesting to see what all comes out now though.
I believe the civil trial would have exposed his financial crimes and believe they would have lost most if not all of their properties as a result of the trial.
The HBO documentary does a better job of establishing the family history, the resentment the area had towards them, their bigotry, etc.
Yeah, they've asked multiple people, including her sister and best friend and both said they never heard of her doing it. They also didn't even touch it in the trial which would've been used as means of motive
I watched a couple different documentaries before trial and 48 hours brought it up on their show last night. Anyone in the trial asked about the family life, said the same thing that there's was no signs of any kind trouble.
I see. Netflix said she did, and there’s all kinds of reports online https://people.com/crime/maggie-murdaugh-saw-divorce-lawyer-six-weeks-before-murders/
Were the wife and son killed by the same gun? Thought someone had mentioned they were killed by different guns
Who woulda thought the wife might try to conceal from her sociopath husband that she allegedly was leaving him. Guy had sources everywhere
Yep. happened to see something on my local national news here about that dickhead. He does seem to have a dodgey history.
Yep, gone to the beach and also hiked a bit. The Art Walk Thursday was super awesome like I mentioned. I bought a touristy ticket for a whale watching tour in Cabo San Lucas yesterday. A little pricey but they provided free transportation and the drinks were free. Saw several of humpback whales and the famous arches. The craziest I got was just dancing at a club in CSL last night and got back very late toy condo. Uber being relatively cheap compared to rideshares in the US has been very helpful. I went to La Playa today and watched guys successfully catch small fish with a makeshift fishing pole using a plastic coke bottle and fishing line, I was genuinely impressed.
Average tmb poster says anything: “Fuck off cuntshit, eat my asshole and die.” Ellick Murdaugh kills his family, who killed a bunch of other people: “Bloke was a bit dodgy at one point in his past, eh?”
Yeah they definitely cut back on donations to gamecock football. Have heard eleck and the sign of higher education elex, mostly coastal dialect.
He murdered his family the day after watching Virginia eliminate South Carolina in a baseball regional. True story
Reading about this and the only thing none of the articles cover is motive. What did the prosecutors say his motive was?
Beach family was suing Murdaugh family for $40 million. The initial hearing for that civil case was scheduled for June 10th, 3 days after the murders. He hoped Paul dying would get him off the hook and stop investigators looking at his finances, it did for a while. The wife was part of it too though because he made sure that both the wife and son would be at the house that night.
I still love that Ellick’s defense was that some vigilantes were out for justice for the boat crash and killed PawPaw and Maggie at the exact time he was away and visiting his parents.
If the son had died of other causes would that have actually prevented the beach family from suing the Murdaugh’s? Still a little confused why the wife was killed. Or is the thinking that she just happened to be visiting on the wrong day? One of the articles I read has testimony from the sister that makes it seemed like the decision to visit was made pretty late by the wife.
I think he definitely thought their deaths would cause the Beach family to drop the lawsuit. Imo he killed his wife too to make it look more like it was done by random vigilantes (two diff guns) and to increase sympathy towards him. His wife was also really close with Paul, maybe he thought she would dig too much and figure out he did it.
Even though Mandy Matney is too personally involved to be an impartial journalist at this juncture, I have to give her credit for being the first media member to start digging when the initial boat wreck happened. Now she's joined forces with that Eric Bland fella who represented the Satterfield boys after they found out Alex stole the money. That guy is a straight vulture who signs his tweets with "EB" like he's sending a raven.
He was for medical marijuana. Of course, he happened to have already bought up a lot of farm land before he was pro-medical marijuana though.
