Former Tennessee coach Butch Jones reportedly will join Alabama’s staff soon. On Sunday night, The Spun’s Matt Hladikreported that Jones is expected to be hired in Tuscaloosa as an offensive analyst. Hladik added that “an announcement is expected sometime this week.” Last week, reports surfaced that Jones was in discussions with Alabama about a possible role on Nick Saban’s staff. Jones went 34-27 as Tennessee’s coach from 2013-17. He led the Volunteers to three bowl appearances, but he was fired in November with Tennessee holding a 4-6 record under Jones in 2017. The Vols went on to finish 4-8 last year.
Butch Jones' Alabama salary revealed, but its only fraction of actual income At first glance, Butch Jones salary at Alabama is notable. Recently hired as an analyst, the former Tennessee head coach will be paid $35,000 a year, according to the response to an open records request filed with the university. That puts him on the same level as most other who hold the staff-level position. It, however, represents just a fraction of the income Jones brings in. His firing from Tennessee last November came with a buyout of $8.2 million. Paid monthly, it works out to checks in the range of $200,000 or $2.4 million a year. Since any new pay mitigates the buyout, that $35,000 from Alabama will subtract only minimally from the obligation Tennessee has to Jones through February 2021. He made $4.11 million last year, according to USA Today's database of coaching salaries. http://www.al.com/alabamafootball/index.ssf/2018/03/butch_jones_alabama_salary_rev.html
This is the exact opposite of everything Tennessee--the man had absolutely zero business being a head coach of anything in the Volunteer State. Clown-like behavior; shirker of tasks.
Mr. College Educator man, explain how he got a raw deal? He draws a check from Tennessee that gets offset from any money he makes. The post three up says just that .
For reference: Last season, Alabama's 10 analysts were paid between $31,300 and $88,100. A full list of those analysts and their annual compensation, according to the UA financial database: -- Dean Altobelli: $47,646.62 -- Garrett Cox: $44,475.62 -- Rob Ezell: $31,300 -- Brendan Ferrell: $88,100.08 -- Alex Mortensen: $31,300 -- Wesley Neighbors: $86,600.08 -- Shea Tierney: $33,800 -- Chris Weinke: $35,700 -- Dan Werner: $60,000 (March-December) at $5,000/month -- William Vlachos: $45,112.22
Guys, ease up 35k in Alabama is like 85k anywhere else. Weinke only making 35,700 after coaching in the NFL is fucking embarrassing though.
Jalen Hurd chose Tennessee over Alabama, because Butch Jones promised him he'd play running back. Saban wanted him on defense. Hurd might be in the NFL as an outside linebacker if he wasn't a complete dipshit. After this fumble, Hurd was rightfully yelled at the coaches. Hurd refused to go back in after this and at South Carolina game because John Kelly was getting his carries. Butch Jones would still be UT's football coach if Jalen Hurd committed to Alabama and UT had to run Alvin Kamara 25 times a game with Josh Dobbs.
Bad comparisons no doubt all around. Simply pointing out he had more receiving yards than uts leading receiver or rb.
